Good news is that based on tonight any CONCACAF team is going to underestimate us :) And I still have beer in the fridge

It might have been a bit shit, but that was the first time since June 2010 that I've screamed like a little teenage girl over a footy match.

This.
Raging from about 80 mins.
Fist pumping at 93 mins.  Jnr Jnr running around the lounge like it was 14 Nov 2009.

Wow...Herbert has really lost his coaching mojo.....that was terrible!

Terrible selections...too many players playing out position, the side looked unbalanced. We were completely toast in midfield. Killen is not a midfielder...anyone with half a football brain could see that. We were completely over run in midfield and Herbert did not react until about the 75th minute. It looked like no body new what the tactics were.....hoof it long or pass it. On that performance we have about a 5% chance of qualifying for the WC. A CONCACAFF side would have hammered us. I could not believe how easily they strolled through our midfield.

After about 60 minutes my wife said  "we are playing like the Phoenix used to aren't we?" . This is easily the most talented group of players we have ever had  and they look like rubbish.

The NC side were great in attack but their defense was woeful....with the talent we have we should have banged in 4 or 5 goals.

Just watched the highlights, damn that was a bad foot to smeltz's head. I'm sure that would have been a red card plus a 2-3 match ban in Europe. That was so dangerous. I just don't understand how the ref missed that, was he not watching the game?

One thing out of this game,  is that Fallon should be back after this smetlz game,   and my football knowledge tells that fallon could be a good target man for the likes of rojas and kosta barbarouses to work as a pivot for them,

wood and smeltz really played awful, and killen was out of place

what about bringing  kris bright and chris james  and andy boyens?

i think we have better players than bright.  i like fallon, he's good on the deck too, but slow.  james was quality, but he upset someone and apparently you cannot do that in NZ football

I never found out what James did, do you know?

no, i don't. i just got told by someone who did know and they wouldn't tell me what! (frustrating; love the goss)

whatever it was it's a pity because he was going to be good for us

i do know that he got tubby, but he must have addressed that now that he's doing well in finland

Four Kings went absolutely nuts when that goal went in. We just played out biggest Get out of Jail Free card ever.

But our collection of yellow cards will mean that it will be very hard to pass Go and collect $200 (or 100 GBP).

in deep,   NZ LOST   ELLIOT , BROWN AND NELSEN   3  leaders  , and Herbert was not able to find them replacements ,   NZ  should go to the confederations cup, remember , and they lost against this very team last time  ,  so it is not luck , they play good football with less resources

Bring back Fallon and agree more friendlies,  the 4th  in concacaf  maybe Jamaica, they had some PREMIERSHIP players they drew 0-0 in Mexico against 120.000 people at the game

Honduras is strong at home they defeated  canada 8-1 last round and now  they won 2-1  USA,

PANAMA  is a good side but they do not have depth of pool of players  they have  4 or 5 key players

COSTA RICA  is not good enough and for me is a one player team Bryan Ruiz

Any of this can be the rival, i would love to Mexico to be eliminated from the WC ,  because they feel  they own the CONCACAF

I picked a 5-0 win and was not even close and from most of the comments I take it we were not that flash.

Without being detrimental to New C, if we can't beat them with any conviction then I don't fancy our chances of getting to Brazil.

leggy, it was truly awful
any former international, which i believe you are one, would be ashamed
we were open on defence, had a non-existent transition and were bullied off the ball
worst of all, long ball all day, which is ok to a point, but with three targets up front, we never hit our targets and if we did, no one was running the right angles to make it effective

Thanks for that reg22, was following all the comments by the second and when it got to 1-1 I thought= here we go.
Obviously from all the comments I knew there were a lot of unhappy campers out there. A win is a win but I have to say that as the game was in Dunedin (cooler for N/C) and with the players we have  I fully expected us to drill them.

If you are old and wise you were probably young and stupid

I dont know why people are complaing about the long ball. It was the right tactic against NC. An obvious consequence is that its ugly and a lot of them will go astray but the upside is you are getting the ball forward so often and so quickly that it shouldn't matter. The fact is we scored twice, hit the woodwork twice, were denied two dead set pens and missed two complete sitters. I was much more concerned about our defence. I don't think Killen had any impact (apart from scoring) but can't really see how selecting Payne or Keat would have made much diffference. And with Durante and Sigmund unavailable there weren't many other options.

How NC finished the game with eleven men is beyond me. Strebre probably should have issued them 6 or 7 yellows in the first half alone, and the tackle on Wood, and probably the one on Smeltz, could have easily been straight reds.

Add to that a few of our players having a bit of a mare. Rojas was awful tonight. Terrible. Nothing to with structure or tactics or team-mates running the wrong lines, he just had a bad night.

As someone said on the podcast the All Whites always seem to play to the level of the opposition.

A little bit of perspective please.

The midfield was our big problem. and Maybe playing three at the back too. Killen was ineffective in midfield, but Payne looked downright costly, getting robbed of the ball outside our penalty area twice. Smeltzy is a shadow of himself at the moment. Woods did well bring down a lot of high ball, but then finding runners with it was the problem. Oh well, we survived

Clearly, since both our goals came from it, and the actual strikers were ballsing it up left and right. Smeltzy and Brockie didn't have good days at the office, being kicked in the head or not. Rojas was trying to skin 5 players and only getting through four. Two off the crossbar, one off the post, and that horrible clusterfuck in front of the NC goal at the end of the first half. But... the usual crowd of forumites have missed having a good Ricki-whinge so they're making up for lost time. Nothing to do with the actual game.

The best thing about NC was their passing. Crisp as. We couldn't counter that kind of play so hoofball was the only option. If there is a criticism of both the Nix and the AWs which might fairly be made of Ricki, is he doesn't coach good passing teams.

Oh yeah, and the Fox in the Viaduct was just going nuts upon nuts in the second half. I think Footpaul nearly had an aneurysm.

The Ref completely blew it and the reality is there were potentially two red cards/spot kicks which would have changed the entire game. I actually can't comprehend how the Shane Smeltz head-kick got ignored, it baffles me.

Glad we won but that was an awful watch (excluding stoppage time). Can we give 4-4-2 a crack please with players playing their actual positions? Refereeing by the end was just making me laugh. And what was with only 4 added minutes? There were at least 2 long injury stoppages and plenty smaller.

Hoofball works sometimes and we do have a mostly tall team but it's all we were doing and flick-ons only work occasionally.

We have some good players, hope they can play better, maybe the odd pass or 2.

Do you think it was a good performance? Tonight, and the game I refer to? Seriously, I am not too bothered if you guys win, but what did you think of those performances?

Note: yes, Scotland also garbage, however they would beat this current NZ side, which says more about NZ than a crap Scotland squad.

No one is complaining we won. The complaints are just an extension of the endless stream of under-qualified refs we get. The reality is nothing will change if people do not voice their concerns. This campaign has shown us how close poor reffing has got us to missing out on world cup qualification, what if we are not so lucky next time? And you can say we are the better team and we should just win but that is a load of the BS we have the right to good refs.
