LBS already looking right at home out there, he's a proper talent.

18213 crowd.  NZF will be disappointed with that

For a friendly on a Tuesday it’s not that bad is it?

And suddenly there is a strong press from Australia, choking our attempt to attack.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

they've realised the quality has dropped with our subs.

Per capita it's like a crowd of maybe 4-5,000 if it had been played in Wellington. Were the ticket prices a bit much?

A very, very tired pass from FDV almost cost us here.

We need Boxall not LBS.
Why they know what he can provide perfectly sensible to give him a go and see what he has got. Its called the bigger picture

We need more guys who are willing to take on a man and run at them.

Aussies must be pissing themselves laughing at us piddling it back and forth in midfield while they're 4-1 up on aggregate. Would kill to see a bit of bravery out there...

Exactly, we need to give the guys a solid run here  - the result is (almost) secondary importance.

All over. Interesting game - Australia definitely better than in their first game, but the AWs, despite scoring, probable worse IMHO than in the first game.

That was pretty pathetic really. Losing a match and no real attacking intent.

Triangles don't win games, goals do.

We need to stop relying on only Wood to score. Others need to start shooting.

Omg this. Use Wood as a decoy at corners as Forest have done, and then hit Milenkovic or Gibbs-White. Or on the break Ndoye.

Consider having two forwards, one to run in behind, as Payne did last week out wide.

Watching the end the forwards were making runs and we were too slow playing the ball.

Much worse. Good for the first 15-20 mins, poor after that.

If Stamenic was there our bench looks instantly better. He pushes OLD or Just to the bench, giving us a little more quality to bring on.

McCowatt poor cameo. Struggling to see what he offers currently.

Yeah, but our "good for the first 15-20 min" tonight was worse than our "first 15-20 min" last Friday night.  Was it because of the guys being conscious of the speedy Toure and Irankunda, not to be caught on the break from the get go?
If that is the case, then not piling on goals last Friday in the first half cost us.

Relatively worse perhaps, but Aussie much better being able to hit on the counter with Toure and Irankunda. Old showed more than McCowatt but the Surman/Bindon CB combo isn't quite there yet.

24 beat 82

Some good stuff.  Baze and the boys will have learnt a fair bit of where players need to improve and where the team tactically needs to have more options and drill those. Really valuable games to have.

Looking forward to how much we can improve and work on with the games coming up. Plus Baze will be closer to finalizing the starters and subs.

Good on him for getting in with the AW training sessions and U16 team but it makes a mockery of the All Whites shirt when it’s handed out so easily … it needs to be earned, no different to playing for the All Blacks. Fyi this is the Ashes cup game not a friendly.

I really can't stand Bazely interviews. Far to many smiles from a man who just got smoked.

Also lives in complete denial about what actually happens out on the pitch.

Sometimes I wish NZF took the initiative if they had any aspirations and sack Baze. But unfortunately NZF are too committed with having him coach us for the World Cup.

It’s really hard to make comparisons with the 6 changes.

Old did offer more with ball at feet. You feel him Cacace and Singh need to walk down the street passing a ball between them from now to the WC.

On the other hand our strength last game was our high press and I got the feeling McCowatt was a key part of that press. He won the ball and protected FDV more. We went in 0-0 at half and only lost that by 1.

But given the difference in teams it’s hard to tell.

Only Singh and Boxall get high praise from me. We missed Boxall’s monster defense and his passing, which was amazing last game imo. Remember as well Surman usually plays in a 3 for his club. Singh played like a mature player. Starting to deliver on his promise. Thank you Portugal and Darije. Only thing is are we happy with him never working the keeper? His shooting is wasteful currently.

Comprehensively out coached by Popovic.

We need to get the ball to Wood in the box and to have Just and McCowatt getting space to shoot from the fringes. Has Garbett got the work rate required? Another with  good mid range shot.

Honestly can't stand Irankunda, never liked him at Adelaide too. Always seemed like a bit of a shark.
He is a talented young guy who thinks he is bulletproof. With a bit of time he will mature and hopefully not into a dickhead.

Incredibly talented confident young kid, with a bit of an ego. That free kick, wow.
Can see him in the EPL next season.

Shades of 2022, a very flat performance in Auckland, after an encouraging 1-0 loss in the first game. Next time play them at the ROF.

Some soft goals, and yet again pretty lame around the final 3rd. Bindon and Surman poor games by their standards. Overall this window apart from the first 45 mins in Canberra, a drop down from the June games in Toronto. Stamenic & Libby missed. Garbett may add something.

Not Crocombe's best game either. Time to give Paulsen a start against Poland.

Socceroos have some impressive young players coming through. Wouldn't we love a Mo Toure as a Wood backup.

Edit - Boxall like Surman plays in a back 3/5 in the MLS.

Awful. Limp dick attack and the insistence to pass the ball 50 times before a cross goes into the box for our premier league centre forward. Then trying to play that centre forward in behind the defensive line as if he can run fast.

WTF. But this is Baze ball…

I'd start a Mo Toure ahead of Wood. More likely to create something out of nothing.

We lack that up front immensely.

“For us, there’s no friendly games,” Australia captain Degenek said in a dual interview with Wood.

The Aussies had a different view point … maybe that’s why they won!

So disappointing. I really thought the Aussies were there to be taken this series.

Games like this make you wonder if the only way we can make a mark at the World Cup, will be to go back to the 2010 World Cup strategy of 3 centre backs and lumping deep free kicks into the box.

And Baz may be able to add long throws to the strategy, because that looks our best bet.

I think his tactical masterclass this series was to keep the long throw strategy largely hidden.

Auckland will rise once more

It might take being drawn with Australia next year, and getting that flukey big time win over Oz to break this psychological cancer hold over us.  In an instant…the scab would be totally flushed clean.

Irankunda - what a free kick that was 😮 😮 😮

Lol.. the level of misinformed angst.

3 years ago we weren't anywhere near Aussie, now we are a good challenge for them. And they're a decent side under Poppa.

Calls to get rid of Baz are way off the mark. We have played some of our best football ever under him. Yes our scoring potential is limited, but we can now hold possession, create some decent play and look like a footy side.

I want to win every game, but we're not spain, we're NZ. So a little dose of reality is needed.

See, I don't think we should get rid of him based on how poorly we did tonight. I do admittedly think we've been playing decent football under him. But he doesn't give me the confidence in thinking he's the right guy to lead us into the World Cup. Of course, we're not Brazil or Spain. Ideally, I'd want us to aim for Ro32 knockouts via third place finish in our group, which I think is a more than achievable goal. I don't feel that'll happen with Baze though. The first half wasn't so bad, but after the second half we had no motivation whatsoever. There's still a lot of room for improvement for our squad, but also our coaching staff too.
