Oh lord that midfield is so small it's ubelievable.

I think the team Ricki will play:

GK Moss
CD Boyens
CD Smith
CD Boxall
RWB Brockie
LWB Lochhead
DM Vicelich
CM McGlinchy
ST Smeltz
ST Killen
ST Barbarouses

Judas, Wood and Clapham all to come off bench. Fitzgerald as well as we look at four at the back.

But I think Ricki will start with the same formation as he has used the last year.

Wood for Kostas. Just a bigger (potentially better) player, size proved to be one of our strongest attributes at the Cup, may as well capitalise on that again.

I'd love to see Judas start ahead of Brocks as well, on the off chance we play 4 at the back I'd have him starting out wide.

Watch out, guys, you're confusing me. "Judas" = Smeltz. Rojas = "Minijudas".

Where "mini" refers to physical stature rather than the magnitude of Judas-ness, which is in fact inversely proportional to height.

I cant see Ricki playing 5 in the back, no matter how lacking of experience they may be.

It's the World Cup formation, I think Ricki will stick with it as our forwards are our strength so he will want to play 3.

Agree Fitzgerald might start on the right hand side, but think Brocks will get the nod.

really hope ricki doesn't play 3 at the back with no ryan, siggy, reid.
and please no boyens

Locky     Smith      Ivan     Fitz

would like to fit boxall in there as well but need Ivans experience with these young lads around him.

we do need to be able to play a back 4 well as obviously 3 just wont work against some better opposition

...and who do we play in midfield?

Ricki has never seen Fitzgerald play and he's not the type to experiment like that.

I agree, but I just saw him on Prime and he said he wanted to play all the young guys as he won't get another chance to try them out.

If you are old and wise you were probably young and stupid

More importantly- this is it until who knows when...6 months or more right? Two games would have been good they should have played Japan or if Korea was offering in Korea and everyone should've turned up...

when's the A-league start?martinb2011-03-23 13:20:20

I like the Noah Hickey article in the home page.  According to Wolfman the China side in the Asian Cup is a young one - as is ours now.

A perfect opportunity for Ricki to try out the young uns  - if it works - shows promise for the future.  If it doesn't we have our established players to come back from injuries.

I think this will be a tough game for the AWs - travel and new combinations.  Despite the difference in rankings I'd be happy with a draw and a solid defensive effort (some Kosta and mini Judas brilliance would be great too).

He was Kosta with a C when he was a Nix player (and a typo error).

Maybe we should get Billy's opinion just to be sure?

Expect China to get up for this one considering they've recently played the Asian Cup together whereas NZ are cobbled together for a one off game with lots of travel.
