To be fair, there are plenty of other people we can point the finger at.   Here is a selection:
[QUOTE=AJ13]Its funny how you guys say that friendlies dont count when these games also directly influence a nations ranking, so one could say they are official? And where to FIFA explicitly state 'friendlies are excluded'?
And are you guys also saying that if a player has 20 passports and only ever plays friendlies, he/she can legitimately play for 20 different nations?

Get off your f**king high horse, i asked a couple of questions, thats all.

Q1) It's not funny.  It's true.
Q2) In the part I quoted.  Only games in official competitions count.
Q3) In the part I quoted. Can only change once.

Some bizarre selections and omissions there All Whites believer. Jake Gleeson Marco Rojas Kosta Barbarouses Might as well vivid these three on the squad list already. Also, you realize Michael Boxall is a centerback right?
Maybe I have misunderstood your post but on the contary I think Gleeson is a great selection for the future and Kosta has proven what the guy can do if given a chance while for mine Rojas needs more time......

Gleeson hasn't played a game of professional football...not sure why we should not include Marco when you're advocating for Gleeson

Point taken, however Jake has been part of NZ Soccer setup since acadamies, has played at World Cups....also it is debatable but I would think being part of Portland Timbers MLS club would be more of a professional environment (even if he is yet to play in pro league) than the A League. No doubting Marco ability but has had one season - lets get passed 2nd year syndrome and sees how he really copes....

Brockie had good couple of games v para and honduras but his subsequent A-League form does not warrant a start ahead of assorted other attacking options

Ricki said on Miles show today that the squad would either be named tomorrow (wednesday) or Thursday.

named 11:30am tomorrow!

will Brockie be there? was the standout vs Honduras and Paraguay. But likely to miss out because of the emergence of Rojas and the form of Kosta.

Brockie was the form player in the last series. Has to be there! We have too much attacking depth, although not great. But we need a decent centre mid. Elliott and Brown is our clear weak link.

AUCKLAND All Whites coach Ricki Herbert has included six uncapped players in an extended New Zealand squad of 30 players which he will trim to 22 next week for a two match tour of China and Japan later this month.

The All Whites take on newly crowned Asian Champions Japan in Tokyo on March 29 four days after playing China in a game which has been moved from Nanning to Wuhan.

Included in the squad are former New Zealand age-group players and new Major League Soccer recruits Jake Gleeson and Michael Boxall, with the former almost certain to make the final 22 named on Tuesday given the injury that currently sidelines Mark Paston.

Two current New Zealand U-20 squad members Wellington Phoenix sensation Marco Rojas and Birmingham Citys Luke Rowe have been included and Herbert may use the opportunity a tour to Asia provides to cast his eye over J-League fullback Michael Fitzgerald.

Craig Henderson gets a second chance to start his All Whites career after a serious knee injury put a swift end to the Sweden-based midfielders first call up last March.

Meanwhile, Kosta Barbarouses who narrowly missed the final squad for South Africa is back in the mix after a stellar season leading the Brisbane Roar attack with 11 A-League goals while Kris Bright, who recently signed with Budapest Honved, is the only other player included that didnt travel to the 2010 World Cup.

The squad represents the starting point for Herbert to build a team to qualify for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, a mission which starts in earnest with six qualifiers in 2012.

Its exciting times, said Al Whites coach Ricki Herbert

We were able to look beyond the last World Cup when we selected that squad so now we have a pretty solid core of players to begin with and ones that served their country very well.

But just as we did back in 2005 when we started the last journey we will begin to look for other players who can help take us to a World Cup. Its about bringing players into the mix and seeing how they respond to the challenges of international football and how well they fit into the team culture.

The extended list of 30 names will have at least five more U-23 players added to it as Herbert moves to increase the linkages between the All Whites and the Olympic (U-23) team which are due to play their qualifiers in Fiji early next year.

Herbert will help appoint, and work closely alongside, the New Zealand U-23 coach while there is likely to be greater cross over between the management staff of both groups to improve continuity.

The Olympics are a prestigious event and its important that we qualify for it and do well. It also has flow on benefits for our Brazil 2014 campaign, Herbert said.

Well have the likes of Tommy Smith, Chris Wood, Kosta Barbarouses and three over-age players all eligible for London, and therell be some players pushing for inclusion in the All Whites as we get further down the World Cup cycle. It makes sense to have greater crossover between the two environments in terms of players and staff.

I don't understand people suggesting Rojas won't be in the final squad? Why would his dad take him out of it?

Looks OK. I guess picking 30 is a bit easier, be tricky to cut it down to 22 and strike a balance between keeping the best players and not picking too many attacking players. Do Bertos and Paston actually have a chance of travelling? And has availability (especially Marco and Nelsen)actually confirmed by all the players?

Rodi Rojas was quoted as having said in a radio interview that Marco wouldn't be playing any "Mickey Mouse friendlies in China and Japan", but I've never seen an attribution for that quote.

Piney on radio said Plodder, Pasty and Leo out so, plus Baz and banners from World Cup squad.

After someone posted that I actually heard an interview and I doubt he ever said that. When asked the question he said Marco had to be picked first. Then he was interested but had to leave his options open. He was hopeful and pretty sure that Ricki wouldn't be spiteful. He sounded fairly enthusiastic about it in terms of tone.

I would question taking both Elliot and Vicelich. Take one of them as a senior elder for the squad but Ricki knows what they offer so you don't need both of them.
