Well, that would stink. Imagine if only Premier League players were allowed to write about the Premier League. The wit and wisdom of Beckham, Drogba, Rooney et al. in all the sports pages.

Crikey, poor Mulligan, I hope he doesn't read this forum. Boy some of you have it in for the lad. He can't be that bad and if he wants some game time he should try the NZFC. Trouble is he'd have to forget about anything but expenses but wouldn't that be better than not playing at all.

Don't worry Dave, most of those laying into you couldn't fit their fat stomachs into a pair of footy shorts, let alone kick a ball.

Luckily you get to see Mulligan train/play every day, so can pass a qualified judgment.

We're so lucky to have you. What we would do otherwise. Probably sitting on our arses with our fat stomachs hanging out plotting how to bring NZ football down.

Mulligan has playe succesfully at a much higher level than alot of players ahead of him at the nix.

I honestly believe that he would have done a good job for us if given a go. I only saw him train for a couple of hours with the all whites in Dubai when they were here, but him and McG on the reserve side carved up brown and elliott in the middle with their short passing and movement in their practice runs.

Once a manager has made their mind up on someone its ard to change it... and we have been very lucky with injuries so we have not had to play our squad players.
He's still young and will get a go somewhere.

Highly debatable.

But I don't want to get into this again so I'll leave it at that.

I would have loved to see Mulligan in the heart of the midfield. He is quality there, can be a bit of a playmaker. Should be let go though as our midfield has worked well this season and he wont get a look in at right back.

Hows it debateable, whats a higher level?? the championship or A league, or conference like Smeltz struggled in, or the Dutch second division like Van Djk played in??

the fact that you used 'successfully'. He hasn't been successful overseas

Well, the mere implication that he was successful at the level he's played that before is debatable. He's only played in about half the games he could have played in during his professional stint in England, has failed to stay anywhere for a meaningful amount of time since Barnsley because no-one wanted to keep him, and the same pattern has repeated now here in the A-league.

I mean, the mere fact that guy has had more clubs than a Russian puppy seal would at least suggest that his professional career hasn't exactly been a success.

Mulligan played very few games at Championship level and is far from loved by the supporters of the clubs he did play at.  Most of his football was in league 1 and independent observers put the A-League around the top of League 1, bottom of the Championship.  This suggests he didn't play much at a higher level, or that he was particularly successful.

For every Smeltz or van Dijk there is a Cristiano, or a Lloyd Owusu, or an Ahmad Elrich who played at a higher level and hasn't made the grade.

Don't get me wrong, Mully seems a great guy but we've seen him play in the last two years and he's not close to the player he looked like being at 17.

He isn't that bad of a player, just down on confidence etc like any player who doesn't get game time. He needs to reinvent his career somewhere, probably league one like Tranmere, maybe Greenie could suss something for the guy.

Hope he stays on and gets a chance next year. I do think he'll move on though because of the game time he has had.. Maybe the Heart will take him?

Remember, Lia was cast off as a reject of Melbourne if i remember correctly and look at him now (I think?). Same could come from Mully.

ive got a song that wont take long, Adelaide are rubbish.. the second verse is same as the first.. ADELAIDE ARE RUBBISH

Anytime ive seen him hes been terrible. Be it the brief first team time he has had, friendlies or training. He doesnt deserve the random love he is getting from some people.

Allegedly

Heart to use an import spot on a player who hasn't played in 44 games for the Phoenix ?

Unlikely.  Ferrante might be a chance though.

Even if he wasn't an import I would struggle to see Heart wanting to pick him up. Simply isn't a good enough player.

They could want to give him a go if they were struggling for players, its what we did.

I see Mully isnt in the All Whites squad for the game against Mexico, seems odd considering he was on the bench Vs Bahrain - is he injured - whats going on?

No, he's just rubbish and Ricki knows this. Hence he's not playing for the 'Nix or the All Whites. Hopefully a change of scenery for him next season will re-ignite his flagging career.

Its no longer a problem.

Sorry to derail the thread, but what you're saying is, Rory Fallon pretty much plays at A-league standard? Then he should get off his high horse.

yes but he's still going to the World Cup as all 18 in teh squad for the Bahrain game are goin, so why isnt he in the squad vs Mexico

I wouldn't take that comment by Ricki as gospel. It was an emotionlly charged night and he may have forgotten about Mulli
Can't see Mulli, who hasn't played in any of the Nix last 44 games (cheers Piney for that stat), make the squad. Someone like Coombes or Hanye are much more likely. He needs football to prove himself. Maybe he can get some game time in Central or Northern league or maybe in Aussie somewhere. Until then, he's sh*t out of luck in my eyes.

Its no longer a problem.

He wont make it to the cup...  i wonder if he has had words with Ricki at some point, he doesn't strike me as a player happy to sit watching for two years expecially after we tried so hard to get him here.

under the laws you can only play for two teams in a year isn't it?

If he played for a club team here then jetted off ater a month having maybe gained a contract would he be able to play for them as it's his thrid club within a year?? Or because he hasn't actually taken a field, it will be seen as he's only played for one team??

Just curious how this could affect his thinking when he leaves. Also someone must know what he's up to??

If you have to make the field then hew has 2 up his sleeve. I believe it is as well as I remember hearing something about being registered with three clubs but you can only play for two. Anyone clarify?

Its no longer a problem.
