Keith Quin and John Mcbeth just been on Goodmoring on Tv1.

Talked all sport, but payed particular attention to The All Whites game.
Quin "They could have sold 70,000 tickets easy" and " The biggest sporting event, in a global sence, in this country ever, Think of something bigger?"

Only he also asked if they could have song sheets. ha.

Mcbeth "Think of the noise 8,000 made yesterday, and imagine 37,000"

Mentioned the White out also.

Great stuff, Its all building

Very encouraging to hear that.

Pedant in action:  How do you get 37k when the seating is for 35.5k?  And where would we put 70k ticket holders in a 35.5k stadium.

But good on Quin and Macbeth - proves there are some of the old brigade who aren't as one-eyed as some (Mr Deaker).

http://tvnz.co.nz/content/430667.xhtml  Go 2hours and 39 mins into the show.

Keith Quinn is great, he was at both Phoenix games (double header) and often watches them away too.

TV3 was actually very decent.

I changed channel as soon as Mckay started blabbing about Carter, but came back to see alot more than I thought I would. Mint

probably a good time to accentuate the posiitve - as there really should be lots of it this week

perhaps a  poll that permits multiple responses on the front page so that every time a media outlet does something good we can 'reward'/ 'acknowledge' their efforts

I loved TVNZ's cross live to some kids playing cricket where the All Whites were training half an hour ago- became the fashion when they brought in some chap from Today Tonight or one of those Aussie news shows...

but they got the best quote from Ryan about not caring if the game was on the moon he'd be there...

Great work from Gourdie. You can tell he's living it as much as the guy's he's reporting on...

Also great work the tvnz website- about check out 20 minutes of press conference. (ok checked it and it is only working for 2 of the 20 minutes. bummer)

edit: hi Gourdie!

Not bad coverage from TV1, liked the part where the kids behind the reporter started beating the crap out of a pram & then crashed a bike into it. Bound to be on CGW! Juvenile Comedy Genius is alive & well in Whitby.

Dom Post STILL haven't quite got their heads around how the away goal rule works though!!
Permalink Permalink
over 16 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
Yeah, they're making hard work of it, recent comments: There will be just as much pressure on the New Zealand defence given how the away goal rule favours Bahrain, doubling the value of any score

and: Under the away goals rule, goals scored by Bahrain during extra time would count as double.
Why not just say that if Bahrain score at all NZ have to win the match??

Wouldn't do the cause much good, I was referring to Super 14 squads. Haha.

I agree, bombard Radio Sport with football talk and emails, let the country know how serious this is!

There I was thinking that you were playing your part, until I realised that you weren't a farmer in Palmy North!!

There is always tomorrow night.

We cannot complain about a lack of media coverage if we aren't phoning up and talking about it - media is about ratings and if people aren't interested (number of calls about various subjects is one gauge of how interested people are), then someone makes a decision to reduce the time allocated to that subject.

Yeah, I'm sick of hearing that away goals count double. No they f**king don't! According to the Dom Post if it's 2-1 to the All Whites with 10 mins to go then we're heading for extra time!!

They do count double if the aggregate scores are level at the end of 180mins...

Allegedly

Cheers, but to be honest I hope everyone here gives a call tomorrow night.

I'll be at Wellington airport at 7pm waiting to be picked up wearing my AW shirt and I want to listen to something on the radio befitting of the occasion.

I have nothing against rugby and watch the odd game (much more so in the past), but right now I just want to hear about football! And if you guys won't phone in to discuss it, then I'll be sitting at Wellington airport in my AW shirt listening about rugby....
