i) comments in this thread
ii) a reply to my eamil from tv3 but not tv1
iii) my viewing over the last week

TV3 have returned to close to their earlier football supremacy and TV1 have fallen behind in relative terms

i trust that TV3 will keep up their improvement and that TV1 might close the gap

We need a "countdown to Gourdie" thread.

We want our Gourdie back, we want our Gourdie back, etc etc.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

I hoper Gourdie enjoys rubbing it in amongst his fellow sports journo's. He had the faith before the bandwagon rolled in.
Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

I have been getting semi-responses from TV3 over twitter. Twitter seems to be a great tool if you want something to be done because your message can be re-tweeted by anyone, which snowballs the delivery.

for those who are on twitter, add:

@SunriseNZ
@3news_video
@RodCheeseman
@3Sport

there are TVNZ news things on twitter, but they never seem to be updated so no point in adding them.

i have also sent out a message suggesting an Andrew Gourdie appreciation group (a bit of light hearted fun).. that also seemed to get somewhere yesterday.

The reason I sent the message to Sunrise was because i watched their "sports wrap" and it consisted of all blacks, league, and cricket. the phoenix won 6-0 and still couldn't get any kind of mention.

Re: U-17 World Cup

Prime @ 5:30pm - take a bow. You have half the time for your bulletin than 1/3 but had a decent highlights package of the U-17 game this morning as well as previewing the story on your headlines. Rugby and League took priority in screening order but I can understand this somewhat.

One Sport - pick of the night for me. Good coverage of the highlights and significance. Phone interview with Coach Cain. Good stuff. After the Rugby and League again...

Three News - was that it? Sure there was an interview with Wynton Rufer who said that it was "a goal he would have been proud of" and that it will be a moment that the hero will "remember for the rest of his life", but it just felt like a short piece that didn't cover a lot of the game. Once again 3rd place after Rugby and League.

I think TV1 actually had it ahead of the league and behind only the rugby.  Nice work.

If you are going to go into that degree of detail, then fail TV One too:

"The All Whites qualify as one of the 4 best 3rd placed teams in the competition of 32 countries".

And what's with saying that the Netherlands and Brazil are "out"? When I looked this morning I'm sure that strange results could result in one of those teams still going through, however unlikely.

What's happened is that the All Whites have finished in a higher placing than Brazil/Netherlands, and with 2/6 3rd placed teams dropping out, the likelihood is that it will be those two teams (but I think it isn't guaranteed yet?).

Keith Quin and John Mcbeth just been on Goodmoring on Tv1.

Talked all sport, but payed particular attention to The All Whites game.
Quin "They could have sold 70,000 tickets easy" and " The biggest sporting event, in a global sence, in this country ever, Think of something bigger?"

Only he also asked if they could have song sheets. ha.

Mcbeth "Think of the noise 8,000 made yesterday, and imagine 37,000"

Mentioned the White out also.

Great stuff, Its all building

How can there possibly be a frenzy when (according to you) the NZRU will shut it all down and divert attention to Jonah Lomu?

Very encouraging to hear that.

Pedant in action:  How do you get 37k when the seating is for 35.5k?  And where would we put 70k ticket holders in a 35.5k stadium.

But good on Quin and Macbeth - proves there are some of the old brigade who aren't as one-eyed as some (Mr Deaker).

Well the NZ Herald have run a item on Lomu today, same old trash, it says he is this global superstar and we havent appreciated him and it goes on to say what a a great guy he is.

Im guessing their will be more stories like that.

But the media is starting to put a few more football stories out their which is good.

Im sorry but Jonah Lomu IS a global superstar. Taking up whole sides of double decker buses in London isn't reserved for nobodys. Adidas use him as an international spokesperson, with Zinedine Zidane. Lomu is a big deal.
 And did you see the reception he got at the airport in Marseille last week when he arrived to play French 3rd division.

No, he's not.

Just because some people in England and France have heard of him doesn't make him that. He's an unknown in 7/8 of the globe. Comparing him with Zidane is ludicrous.

Lomu is a rugby superstar, not a global one.

Very big difference (rugby isn't a global sport - football is).

Lomu was the first rugby player to transcend the sport, he is the reason Murdoch pays million of dollars for the game. Massive in Asia and Europe.

He's not massive in Asia. In fact, he's unknown in most of it, except Japan. He's well known in the UK and France and possibly Italy, but wouldn't call him massive, especially not now. Anonimous in the rest of Europe. Unknown in the Americas, with the exception of Argentina, where he's known, but again wouldn't be seen as a superstar. Ditto for Africa, with the exception of South Africa.

You're just buying into the NZRFU propaganda line. Go to Sao Paulo, Moscow, Kinshasa, and ask them who's Lomu. And then aske them who Zidane is, or Kobe Bryant. See what they tell you.
