Official 2010 Fever Tour to SAfrica
. Know of any good place to get a tailored suit from?
2ndBest2010-04-05 21:30:58There might not be time for them to make it and have it delivered to you on the way over.
They could take your measurements and finish it while you're away though (maybe send a white one to the hotel in SA, or else you could pick up the finished suit in HK on the way back from SA.
Can pass on the name of the tailor I used if anyone's interested.
Also, as far as I know the electronics market is at Mong Kok.
I bought quite a few computer parts there on my trip in 2006.
Got my shots today. $130 worse off now.
www.Loadedcard.co.nz for prepaid credit cards.
Kiwibank don't do those cards either for SA.
Talked to a SA contact of mine who has worked as a travel agent in SA. Here are a few money pointers:
1) Strongly suggested to carry as little cash as possible. "you will be robbed" were her words.
2) Don't wear a backpack. and only put things in your pockets that have zips. Otherwise you are asking for trouble.
3) She suggested using your credit card and bank card as much as possible. Although there are hefty charges related to that.
End of an era. Vinnie - It's over.
If anyone cares for my inane babbling follow @iluvnix17 on the Twitter.

matter of course I assume. Its likely to happen, so better to lose $10 than $1000.
Won't you be using the Newstalk ZB credit card anyway?
Was fully prepared just to get the malaria tablets - and even then that was only because of the games near Kruger. I was at the docs today and mentioned about the malaria tablets and he asked where i was going .....he says "oh you will need more than that"
Tetanus
Hep A
Hep B
Typhoid
& Flu
I told him I'd go away and think about it.
He said I was playing russian roulette if i didnt have them.
I asked if i could have a general anaesthetic and then he give them to me.....
sigh....
- I asked if my Fever Card would get me into Tanzania but apparently no chance, even though it's only three years old) but I'm going to some dodgier places. Hep-A/Typhoid, Polio, Tetanus/Diptheria, and YF; 4 shots in all.

You'll get AIDS with that attitude.

Why?
Because as of now it is not a third world country. Apart from the crime.
If you are old and wise you were probably young and stupid
Why?
Because someone he knew went to SA a decade ago and didn't come down with hep-A, typhoid, malaria, diptheria, polioOR tetanus
You can take all the piss you want, but all the shots you are meant to get are a BIG con.

And also my daughter lives there and has none of these.

It mentions all the diseases I listed yesterday but focuses mainly on Malaria. With the others it basically describes them as "routine diseases" ie diseases you would consider getting even if you were staying at home. eg Tetanus, flu etc.... Hep B is a standard school vac these days, many people already get flu vacs routinely and of course we are advised to have a tetanus every 10 years.
the site is worth a read if you haven't yet got vacs. I have to say I am considering not bothering with the vaccines.
Mind, I've never had either.

I'd check it against some of the sites posted earlier on this thread. Some shots last for 3 years, others for 5 or 10.
Malaria may even not be a big risk as it is winter, only areas of concern for Malaria will be travelling in the far north of the country, so games in Polokwane and could possibly include Nelspruit and then as I said it is winter so risk is reduced.
Funny how some people take the piss, but good to see that some people have been there done that. Malaria is always a problem in Africa, except that on the highfelt this is the winter and there will be no malaria at 5000ft above sea level.
So to all those smart arses, I have also lived in Africa for 18 years, 3 in South Africa so i think I know a bit more than you.
