Ooo yes to the safari...and the tour.
Also any chance of doing a partial tour? A friend and I are currently investigating getting over there, but I don't think I'll be able to leave the country until after an annual international conference, which happens to be work's busiest time and I doubt I'd be able to get any leave until the conference is over.

But in seriousness under 10k and it's looking ever enticing. Goodbye trimester 1. Hello Johannesburg.
put that into the fund.
Allegedly
BTW for cheapest flight options consider getting to Sydney or Melbourne first and then Etihad (usually realtively cheap) or Gulf Air (used to be cheap but I've heard not so anymore) and the like. Might work out cheaper than Emirates/Qantas/Singapore Airlines from NZ, or it might not, but maybe worth checking.

I think there'll be a few people like that. I don't know many on here either but don't really care as probably the best way to meet everyone!!
Three for me, and two for them.

Just a heads up [Im not sure if it has been touched on before]. Ive worked in the group travel industry and rugby world cups and it isnt a simple process. While people might be lucky to obtain match tickets by themselves, unless you have someone to stay with then it will be very hard [if not impossible] to get accommodation in the places where the team will be playing. For events such as this, the hotels are block booked by the travel companies and youll only get rooms if you book packages through these travel companies. If you are lucky enough to find a travel company that will only allow you to purchase accommodation then youll be paying a premium. The likes of the Willaments and Gullivers etc make their money on events such as this so are very reluctant to chip off the profit making parts of their business. With a football world cup you could expect packages to be in demand so it will be the old supply and demand situation if I can sell all of my allocated tickets as part of packages, why would I cut my profitability by not taking advantage of my value added packages?
I say tackle him in the face.
All Aboard the Phoenix/ All Whites Bandwagon!!
$8,500 is a lot for a student, but we'll see when we get details...
Hey Smithy, when you say including travel, do you mean flights to SA itself? I'm very seriously looking at going, but my first look at tours were around 10-14k plus flights as extra, which would make it unlikely for me (that is about a year of travel in South America, vs 16 day tour in S.Africa). If it was around 8.5k, then I'd be a serious possibility. If that included flights, I'd be likely and maybe theother half(are they allowed?Seemsno-one else mentions the idea...If not, I can sort something out
)
My mum found something which was 6000 not including airfares but everything else in the sunday star times.
Probably the Williments package which is for "tent accommodation" (is that safe in SA??) unguided/unescorted. Hotels and escorted was $10,000 or so in that ad.
Williments is expensive but then you'd assume that you get what you pay for (I'm not saying it is worth it, but security would be a big issue for me in SA).
