Hi guys, HN in particular, I had decided to go to the WC even before Saturdays result.  For those of us domiciled in say the UK would we be able to join the tour BUT NOT pay for the flights as we (me) would be coming in from the UK?

Have $12k put aside for the US trip which we have canned to go to SA so well on my way. Figure another $5-$10 over the next 7-8 months and we should be sweeeeeeeet. May top up the old mortgage (again) for spending money.

Its no longer a problem.

Another cost (from having previously spent considerable time in South Africa) is a rental car.   It is a HUGE country, there is loads to see and hitching or bussing around is not a viable option (even within cities which often have no public transport).   Insurance and A/C is also a must.

This is the site/ guide we used previously, great site, great accomodation available and cheap...

I have been planning to go to SA for the WC but got told to stay off it as SA can be dangerous you can get killed and shot, etc... going as a group is a different story however

what would you rather have?.....killed or shot by yourself or killed or shot as part of a group

probably killed and shot as part of a group coz that way you would have more people at your funeral

Not true. Cost for the above option is USD10746 (NZD 14367) for Standard Room, non sharing. For sharing, price is 50% of USD17999 = NZD12032.

Have you been there and had bad experiences?

I spent 2 months in South Africa, travelled 2500Km without incident. Given there is no public transport there is no other option!  If you were that worried then stick to a tour...

Out of curiosity...what do people think is a reasonable price to get to our three group games including travel and accomm?

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Seriously, having seen other posts I'd expect $10k all inclusive. Any more and the wife won't be coming :-) Depends on the level of accomodation though.

Its no longer a problem.

Good spot Steptoe, I took another look and for a single room at the Beach Hotel, in Durban with flights and transfers was NZ$ 11,642...

Sorry for any confusion.

I'm gonna by a dinghy and start rowing tomorrow, see you there in 6 months .

tbh I hoped the tour would be around $8-8.5k inclusive. is a hell of a lot of money for those on an average income. but I would gladly sleep in a cardboard box for a year just so I can be at the WC.

I will be looking to continue travelling after the cup so for those who are trying to sort the package out, just remember I'll be asking if I can change a return ticket to a ticket to another country after

At the moment we are trying to work to get something pitched at the lower end of the market.  $8.5k or thereabouts is a price I'd hope we could hit.

Likely to be budget in many regards though.

Is that what people want?

Feedback please.

$8.5 would be loved by many.  I don't care really where we sleep. Shouldn't be sleeping to much anyway. Just get us a safe place to keep stuff and away we go.

Budget would be better. Although on my Part Time New World salary, I am dreaming. Hopefully Air NZ or Radio Sport or someone will be running competitions, and i can just enter 1000 times.

All Aboard the Phoenix/ All Whites Bandwagon!!

My opinion might not be as valued as I am unlikely to go, but IF I was going to go, SAFETY would be the #1 priority IMO. SA can be a dodgy dodgy place especially for those of us used to the relative safety of New Zealand.

I'm sure we could all become  a group of squatters for a month or hire a couple of shantys. sweet as.

in all seriousness If there is enough of us we could probably hire a whole backpackers. $8.5k would be an excellent price.

maybe look into group bus etc.... group 4x4 for amateur safari

if you lot make a package with Safaris etc.. i will consider going with ya.

i mean you can't go to SA without seeing the big 5 !!

8.5k and I'm in (time off work pending, another workmate has the duration of the world cup off and he's not even a Football fan )

One thing that would be useful for many I'm sure is some kind of installment scheme. Failing that I'm sure a few would be willing to extend mortgages/ get loans.

Awesome work already being done by you Fever guys as usual.
While everyone is bandying around prices and organising the tour, i want to ask how much we'd be looking at for just the 2 weeks in SA?
Would be flying 1 way from Melbourne but would be dead keen to spend the group stages at least with you lot. So accom, tickets to the games, transfers etc i guess.

Cheers guys, and again, top notch work you guys are doing!

Hold it  fever on tour+booze+guns safer to sleep on the streets so that means all i need is airfares.

Westpac Stadium commonly known as cake tin or ROF (ring of fire)

Below is soccercity stadium in johanannesburg which will host the worldcup opening and final plus other prelimanary games etc.., design is inspired by african
cooking pot. around the outside of the stadium will be a ring of fire to enhance the cooking pot theory. Now isnt that a coincident!!!

nice thread so far

heaps of opinions, ideas and info

I'd say prepare to give up your job for WC, we don't know when NZ will qualify for another WC after this so if you're a true football fan who is a loyal Kiwi, you should make the most effort to go to this trip

I applied leave already, my manager is nice she said I'd get priority, but in the case of no leave allowed and I've booked everything I'm prepared to leave my job (even though it pays good money) and then hope I'd be able to come back and get accepted again

all my friends and people from work told me to go at all expenses!

I've checked emirates website price still a bit steep, I'll have to pull out my savings to make this happen, also will enquire at flight centre

I might consider not going then...

In all seriousness, this is looking increasingly unlikely for me, will enter every competition I see.
You know we belong together...

Hey Smithy, when you say including travel, do you mean flights to SA itself?  I'm very seriously looking at going, but my first look at tours were around 10-14k plus flights as extra, which would make it unlikely for me (that is about a year of travel in South America, vs 16 day tour in S.Africa).  If it was around 8.5k, then I'd be a serious possibility.  If that included flights, I'd be likely and maybe the other half (are they allowed? Seems no-one else mentions the idea... If not, I can sort something out )
