It was always going to be Auckland, thats where there based NHS. Good luck to them. better be packed out or else
I would of prefered CHCH as it would of been New Zealand Football cash cow. 39000 would of been a record?. And seeing it needs money i would of thought and excellent choice. darkhorse2010-08-17 19:04:24

Oh, ffs.

I can pretty much guarantee you that this was never a straight Auckland vs Hamilton vs Christchurch decision for NZF. They will have gone for whoever presented the best deal, and rightly so when there is a financial risk involved. You have no idea what was put on the table by the various stadiums and councils involved. It's quite possible that AMI and Chch just priced themselves out.

It's our national team play two home internationals against quality opposition, what more do you people want?

Admittedly it's not easy to warm up to Auckland totally when a minority on here seem incapable of being gracious winners.

I hope so, cos I have to work and I don't finish till 5pm that day, will ask my boss see what the haps are, she's keen to watch as well so that might not be a problem for me to get off early or even have the day off for it.

I just called Paul Gunn (North Harbour Stadium), he has no idea yet, but fingers crossed, I'll be gutted if I can't see this game.

Will be special first game I'll see them live after going all the way to SA and support them for the WC

Lol wouldn't it be hilarious if Wellington actually got the lowest (by a long shot) attendance, I mean the game prior to the must win Bahrain game drew 5/8's of bugger all didn't it.
It was mid week game to and although the kick off time from memory was crazy early in the evening we still failed to get 5,000 people in

To be honest I wouldn't be surprised if Wellington only filled half the stadium. If it was a week earlier in the school holidays it'd be much better. Obviously that was never an option.

I'm almost certain Auckland will get more or almost exactly the same as here.  They'll be itching to prove they will support the All Whites, have a Saturday night at a good football stadium (albeit a sh*t one to get to).

Meanwhile Welly has a midweek game which will impact the travelling chances and family options and is a much smaller market.  I'm calling both around 20k.

i think theyll sell pretty well = and akl will be full house

but might be critical what time they play the welly game. 730 on a school night could be too late for many kids. 6pm kick off might be a good option

You can change the meaning of most things if you only quote a sentence and a quarter.  I hope the game does well.  And there's no rivalry here from me, I want to see what's best for the game in this country.  If Christchurch had a smaller stadium and it was as poor an idea as having it in Auckland is at the moment then I would acknowledge that (albeit reluctantly and only be half sorry if Christchurch still got the game).

Mate I like you optimism & I'm not trying to be negative I just think we'll struggle with crowd numbers for this game. i'dve been just as happy for Auckland to get one and Christchurch or someone else to get the other. I'm still going though, Wgtn at least  and will try to make the Auckland game.sometimes i just wonder how deep the football fan base is in Wellington at times

How could it have been anything other than AMI?

You talk about financial risk. A mainstream media report (yes it could have been wrong) said that October 12 had an underwriting backer for AMI Stadium. A huge factor against AMI for October 12 was that they were double booked.

I never heard anything to say that October 9 was specifically underwritten at AMI, but why wouldn't it be if they were prepared to underwrite October 12?

22,000 sellout crowd at NH. I'm almost certain that AMI would get more.

3,000 more at $39 per seat = $117,000
8,000 more at $39 per seat = $312,000
13,000 more at $39 per seat = $507,000

Surely not to be sneezed at?

Obviously the decision is made. Doesn't mean it isn't a strange one.
