That's still $100,000. Is that small change for NZ Football?

you are basing this on the embankments being closed - not sure if this has happened before or if things have changed, but i have watched the allblacks from the embankment twice and bought the tickets in advance.  both these games would have been in June.

Also saw the allwhites play Australia for the 1998 WC qualifiers from the embankment - although i think i may have bought this ticket at the gate (mad butcher, yes the mad butcher had run out!!!) - but this was probably in October, so embankment should be OK, so capacity is 25,000 (i think)

on the topic of the embankments, I agree that it is rather silly having grass embankments at such a stadium, but the original reason for them was to retain the "feel" of Onewa domain when north harbour shifted there circa 1995.  i assume they intend putting some sort of seating in temporary or otherwise for the RWC, but i guess the allwhites match is one year earlier than that,

They are talking about temp seating to bring capacity up to 22,000. That is what is being reported and I stand corrected if that information is incorrect.

i wonder what the cost of putting the temp seating in is?  and i wonder if they can base how much they put in on pre-sales?  1500 each end doesn't sound like many, though i don't doubt that you are right.  it seems crazy that the capcity of NHS is just a touch over QPR's home ground, which is fairly tiny by comparison.

i remember once going to pukekohe stadium which has the steepest grass embankment you can imagine.  all the locals had these kind og home made individual wooden terraces to put down on the grass to give them a flat platform for their backsides to sit on.

Looked over FIFA general safety guidlines, the general rule is to have terrace areas vacant, but

"standing spectators may be admitted after seeking prior approval from the local authorities responsible for approving the respective stadium. "

I have no knowledge about this whatsoever. Everything I know about the seating is only what has been reported in the media. If that's wrong then I'm also wrong

yeah, pretty sure when we played away in Fiji for WCQs there are grass embankments, and although it was back in 1997 and rules may have changed they were open for WCQ v Australia.

although they were definitely not open for U17 WC in 1999 (but wouldn't have been needed anyway) - they were just coverd with the competing nations flags which then became a water slide for the winning brazilians...

i'm just thinking ourt loud to the forum - i imagine the cost of putting in temp seats for a single event is fairly high... hopefully if it does sell well they boost the capacity to as many as they can sell. (and then i'll watch on a crappy internet stream from London)

Thing is, if 19,000 was truly "break even" as some claimed, then temporary seating isn't going to add much profit after the cost of installing is included.

Or at least that's the feeling I got when we had a discussion about temporary seating for the Wellington Phoenix sold out semi.

And there's no rivalry here from me, I want to see what's best for the game in this country. If Christchurch had a smaller stadium and it was as poor an idea as having it in Auckland is at the moment then I would acknowledge that (albeit reluctantly and only be half sorry if Christchurch still got the game).

I'm totally with you here. If the stadium seating situation had been reversed I would certainly not have been as strong in pushing for Christchurch.

Glading on the radio said that NHS will be installing temp seating at no cost to NZF.

If this is the case, there is no reason why the North Shore City Council, or whoever, would not approve the embankments to be opened up. But is that only if people stand?

I dont care when it starts, if it was midday id just call into work sick. In fact im putting in a leave request right now so that I can have the entire day off to drink prior to kick off.

If youre in Wellington but not there, youre not a true fan imo

real disappointed game V Honduras not being played in Christchurch. Given Aucklands poor record and ChCh's excellent  support (10,000 in 1995 NZ  V Malaysia, 20,000 for Nix 2010) I would have thought that financially it would be less risky to have the game in Christchurch than Auckland.
Underdtand NZF had commitments to North Harbour but still I think is teh wrong decision.

It is a gut-wrenching decision. All the logic pointed in favour of Christchurch. But oh well, not much we can do about it now apart from hope for ridiculously low airfares. Hope you Christchurch guys can get some affordable flights to get yourselves up because Dunedin flights are at least double your fares. And that's just the base fare. Not a lot of hope for provincial South Island bringing families. They might as well swim the Srait.ahmad2010-08-18 09:41:47

From Nelson flying to Wellington is cheaper, or just as cheap as it is to Christchurch. The only thing that would put people off is getting work off the Wednesday. I just hope the close relationship between Ricki Herbert and Avram Grant is enough to make sure Winston Reid comes down, Ryan Nelsen didn't seem too convinced on radio sport today, even though it's a FIFA window.

Valid point. you wouldn't be much of a football supporter if you don't show on a tuesday.

But its not the football supporters you have to worry about, they will be there with bells on. It is the general public you need to get excited. And lets say an AW tea missing, Nelsen, Fallon, Reid. Paraguay with the lack of a really big name (ala, Beckham, Ronaldo, Rooney) and nothing really riding on it in the general publics eyes. If its a Tuesday night at 6.00 i think it would be a tough sell.

Although i do like the ticket prices, that will most definitely help. and hopefully the media will get right in behind it.

All Aboard the Phoenix/ All Whites Bandwagon!!

Does anyone know when this so called contract with North Harbour is up for renewal? Its been a joke for too long (ie sh*t crowds, chatham cup always going there, being a pig for supporters to get to ... etc)

Here's a real gem from one of the big-wigs at NZ Football (Glading):

"Logically it makes sense for the Auckland region to host the match against Honduras as the population base gives us a great chance to sell out the ground and give the All Whites a rousing welcome home."

I can't stress how much I enjoyed his use of the word 'logically'.

Opps should of read this read before I Started a new one, this is a hige mistake by the NZFA, chch would of gotton 25 Thousand at least, I doubt North Harbour will get ten thousand.

Went up for the U17 Womens final back in 08 and they managed to get 16,000 something along to that?

Two years on with football rising youd expect topping that
