Arnold def interested according to stuff latest.

"...he thinks there is a lot of untapped talent in New Zealand."

Untapped? Yeah? Where would that be? Love to know...

Arnie to sign for Sydney but wont be free to pick up the AWs job on the side.

07 May 14:41

Emblem should have the job full time.

Why? What's full-time about being the All Whites coach?

Common sense would suggest he meant instead of the interim role he has currently.
07 May 21:54

Ah, right. Full-time part-time then.

some requirements -

"Has proven ability to enhance the profile and effectiveness of NZF and the sport of football in the community."

"Minimum of UEFA A licence (or equivalent)."

"Experience of coaching and winning matches in the Oceania region is preferable."

How many could even claim that last tag? Roman only I'd say.

Reads like it will come down to a choice between Emblen & Ramon

Thought Emblem lacked the coaching licenses.

They should give Roman a go at the SA game.

Its everywhere. 80-90% of it fizzles out by about 13-16yrs of age.

Arnold signs for Sydney

Coincidence that the AW job announced today? probably not hope NZF get Ramon (or Roman depending on your auto correct)

Not sure 'giving him a go' for one match will achieve much. It won't be enough for him to prove a lot about what he brings to the table. I think the new coach might need a fair bit of time to implement their systems/style.

Fuck this stupid game

Very true. Ramon has spent last 3 years at ACFC "changing their style" (see interview with him - latest on www.oceaniafootball.com)

09 May 03:31

Also if Emblen is your guy then giving Ramon a go does not send a good message....

Grumpy old bastard alert

09 May 03:41
Unless Emblen actually doesn't want it yet.

Fuck this stupid game

09 May 04:25

Has Ramon actually proven that much in his time at Auckland City? I mean they've only won the league once in his time and from there he's won the O-League, which lets be honest, the best (richest) team from NZ should always win. I'm not offering a better alternative which could be the flaw in my argument but I just don't feel he's done anything major here.

I'd say the same regarding Emblen, his record is hardly spectacular and pretty inexperienced.

If our players from the ASBP are not considered good enough for the national team, what makes our coaches worthy?

Look abroad, someone from the outside of NZ football fraternities and maybe then we'll stop making the same mistakes.

......ofcourse this is just one mans opinion....

09 May 04:46

Can imagine there are plenty of international coaches who will to come here for a low 6 figure sum.

09 May 06:34

Are they offering that much? I would have thought closer to $75k

I would have been really surprised if they were offering low 100s for a part time role. If they are however, great, we may get someone half decent. Otherwise it will be an asb coach

Auckland will rise once more

09 May 07:51

That is my estimated guess.

09 May 09:16

We should have signed this person.

Coached Benfica youth mens team to World Title. Scouted for Celtic. Has a Masters degree in Sports Science. Has a UEFA  A badge. Coached Quatar and Iran womans team. Is only 36 yo.

Her name is Helena Costa. She has just signed a two year contract to coach Clermont in the French Second Division(mens full professional).

Someone to consider after the next WC????

I still think that the job has a lot of attractive parts to it -  you get all the exposure involved with coaching a top 100 international side, good chance to make it to the confeds, possible for making it to the WC (at least a playoff).  Ok the cash isn't great but it's not as if these jobs come up all the time and if you're someone without a profile maybe you'd suck it up for a few years in the hope this catapults you into the big time.  Look at the guys that coached Zambia - Herve Renard.  Completely unremarkable coaching career for 15 years, wins the African Nations Cup with Zambia and now he's coaching in Ligue 1.

Normo's coming home

09 May 11:48

I'm not sold on Ramon or Emblin yet.  As assistants yes, but not Head Coach/Manager quite yet.  I personally feel the candidate needs to have coached in a professional environment as the boys playing in Europe won't dig ASBP level coaching, ethos etc.

Will also need to actually do some scouting too.  Something Ricki never seemed to do, nor Neil based on current squad.

Thomas Rongen was asked in a interview (ESPN) about "Would he return to coach another Oceania national team" And he said maybe, And in fact that he'd been contacted by two member associations.

Thomas Rongen anyone?

Frank Farina would be a good choice but I am not sure if he wants the All Whites Job
I think El Tel may be a good choice but at 71 not sure if he want to be the other side of the world
Wynton Rufer is the peoples choice but limited experiance though.
Is Raul Blanco interested??

Is this post serious? I mean, Wynton as the peoples choice? Blanco? The players fucking hated that guy (as much as he was good). The fact you mention Farina is just laughable.

Question.... What was Rikki's credentials before he got the All Whites job? From memory it was National League only?

Believe he took over as coach for the national U17's from Rufer @ the U17 WC 1999 here in NZ, Had a UEFA B licence When he coach the last 5/6 games for NZ Nights - Until he completed his UEFA pro in 2007/8 - So he was educated in that way. However he was in charge of a professional Club throughout his rain  (Minus 1 year give or take).
