HAve you seen Sydney play?
I am assuming it is better than the Phoenix played last season, or the AW's played the other day, so it will be an improvement.

Herbert looks like football-mad Will Ferrell, the real guy , check when Ferrell talks, serious bussiness about the beautiful game, he said that not being able to be a soccer player was his biggest regret. Another crazy football mad-man is Mike Myers, Colin Farrell etc
This is my first post. I would like to comment on the debacle at Wellington Airport today, but am unable to. Is New Zealand Football now in charge of this website and stopping comment? Are we being muzzled by NZ Football's media guru Paul Gunn?
What a disgrace. NZ Football looks like amateurs in everything it does. Time for the egos to go and best practice is followed. Put aside 15 minutes at the airport for the coach, captain and the most positive player (Rory Fallon) then head to the hotel and kick back. Instead they've embarrassed the game, been heavy handed with media and told everyone there will be media tomorrow. Then backtracked and had to organise media at the hotel once they realised how unprofessional they had been.
And do you know what, the players wouldn't have wanted this. They are the professionals, let down by an amateur management team. This decision would have been made by media hater Brian Turner. Great player but out of his depth in his role as manager. Real jobs for the boys as he is Ricki's best friend. Think about best practice guys and what is good for the game not your ego.
Isn't it your 6th post?

Marylou you are an idiot- you are behaving worse than people that talk to other people on their cell phones in a cinema. if you want to post here try to get involved in a discussion without insulting all the fans and people on this website. Or just buzz off.
You need to tell me why. My first question was not answered?
if you really can't see anything- it may be something to do with your computer and/or your internet connection
You need to tell me why. My first question was not answered?
Because you are posting the same post 7 times.
That's not the answer. It was my first post and wanted some guidance. I've posted something and it was shut down/locked. You need to tell me why. Was it not appropriate and if not why? Calling someone an idiot is not helpful!!
Check out our rules and regulations. http://www.yellowfever.co.nz/categories/wellington-phoenix-discussion/topics/forum-rules-and-regulations

You failed that on numerous fronts.

The next All Whites coach . .. . . . . . . . . . .... wouldn't it be great if we could have trials, you know, have the same group of players, who can mould them into the best balanced attacking and defending side
Oi Oi Edgecumbe... lets have a clean sheet

Will Riki Herbert ever get the kudos he deserves ....?

I am sixteen and at an all girls high school looking for a wealthy football coach with lots of time and a large severance....package.
So we're all agreed? Asterix's Auckland Spanish mate or up and coming Aussie as a stepping stone for A league or Socceroos? That about it?
Kotahitanga. We are one.

Hello FU BLU
I am a very very wealthy football coach. In fact I make Kim Dotcom seem like a mere merchant banker such is the length of my, erm, coaching skills.
I would be very happy to discuss with you your future football career in my "starting XI". I can pick you up after school in my discrete, blacked out car. The number plate is "GR00MER".

He's gone. But not quite yet. See StarTimes.

Basing an All Whites coach overseas has its merits as it's only a part-time role and most of the best NZ players are playing overseas or the A League. Would Nelsen be interested in splitting his MLS coaching career at Toronto with putting together and coaching the AWs when they infrequently play? Someone in NZ could keep him abreast of what's happing in the ASBP and the A League. Otherwise lets bring Simon Elliot back from LA or let him split his youth coaching role at LA Galaxy.
I note however that NZF are contemplating kicking Herbert upstairs as possibly High Performance Manager while Fred moves to the top job. Thus Van Hattam, Herbert and De Jong cover themselves and keep their positions. This would be terrible as Herbert would still dominate so much of the behind the scenes thinking. Can you imagine what it would be like at the Phoenix if Herbert was "director of football". Merrick would have walked and no good coach will tolerate Ricki tapping him on the shoulder. We have to make a complete break at the national level or we'll keep going backwards.
Yeah checked out SST and HOS football articles at local café. They're not all online yet.
All make good points, but to most of the so called football media (not Danny Hay - as he was onto it) - where were ya when NZ Football and Herbert completely stuffed up the Oceania Nations Cup, and allowed it to be swept under the table. No other country, or their football media would let that happen. And that folks, is where this whole shamozzle started. It was not just alarm bells. It was a big bloody massive red flag. Van Hattum and the NZF operate like Dad's Army, and it won't be long before New Zealand's professional players overseas started asking themselves, if they really deep down want to be involved in a setup like this.
And that is exactly what will happen - their heart won't be in it when they get called into camps. And that will be significant, as odds are, several more of an exciting crop of young players coming through, will be picked up in next year or so by overseas clubs.
Right now - there's no way a top overseas coach with half a brain would come near NZF - more anonymous player mutterings re that this morning. Pity, as with so much good new wave talent already available, and believe me, much more to come, it would be a great gig.

Exactly, and that's my point. No decent coach will go near the 3 musketeers (Herbert, Van Hattum and de Jong). You watch. Nelsen won't, Elliot won't, Aussie coaches won't. Herbert's 'all about me' reaction since Azteca says it all. These guys will hang in till the death. There's no way they'll want to miss out on those FIFA gravy train goodies.
Tony Popovic
I agree JV (huge round of cheers) but unfortunately I think there's little prospect of Popovic taking the AWs job. I don't think West Sydney would share him, it's a vibrant club where he's well looked after. He's also just finding his feet as an A League club manager. His name came up for the vacant Crystal Palace job and he didn't go for that.
The more I think about it the more I think Ramon Tribulietx would be a good candidate for the AWs job, if given a free hand from the old guard. However I don't want to lose him from ACFC as his possession-based attacking style is starting to come to fruition. Would he want to give up the annual Club World Cup adventure for a part-time international coaching role? It would certainly be a refreshing continental change of style from the dour Herbert years and he does know NZ football. However if Herbert moves upstairs then it's not going to matter, because nothing is really going to change. It's either a completely fresh break or more of the same.

Nice idea. But Popovic will never come here. He'll be off to Europe at a much higher level post WSW. Seriously talented coach.
It seems the board is protecting themselves, they will advertise the all whites job, after wednesday, Herbert will be
the only scape goat and Van hattum and his pals will stay. :-(

Yes I agree with you. And Herbert will end up getting an admin gig with all his mates.
contraversial and maybe not the right candidate but unless I missed something no-one has mentioned Ernie? in a dual role just like Rikki had - maybe not ideal for the Nix supporters but a good way for NZF to get a decent coach on a budget.
He does have international experience.
Id be happy with that ...quite like his willingness to try things , give youth a shot etc ...wont happen tho ...
I think Ramon Tribulitex would be a good option. He would definitely be within our price bracket as well. I would be happy to see him given a go and I'm fairly confident that he would take or seriously consider taking the job. One question is though, if he were appointed (which is unlikely in the first instance) would he turn into a Ricki Herbert of ACFC, favoring many of his previous club players over other options?

Unfortunately looking at the current players in ACFC, methinks he possibly will be a Ricki Herbert of ACFC ie: has a definite bias. You need only look at how many Spaniards have been drafted in the team since he's been coach - unless a coach at that level can survive on NZ home-grown players to play his style of football, he's not going to be able to manage with a National side that can only have NZ players.
I'm not.
