Sorry if its been covered already but why does OFC feel the need to squeeze the 6 games into 3 4day fifa windows. Just checked Australias schedule and its far better spread out:

Socceroos' schedule:

June 8, 2012: Oman 0 Australia 0 (away)
June 12, 2012: Australia 1 Japan 1 (home)
September 11, 2012: Jordan (away)
October 16, 2012: Iraq (away)
March 26, 2013: Oman (home)
June 4, 2013: Japan (away)
June 11, 2013: Jordan (home)
June 18, 2013: Iraq (home)

Ours feels as rushed as the nations cup was and it does not allow for quality football when you expect teams to play one day then travel and play a day or two later.

I'm not sure we'll play anybody in a friendly in August, I think we played Jordan a couple of years ago in an August international, but RH said before that it's hard to get players and teams to NZ in the smaller friendly international windows. Perhaps an Aus/NZ based XI friendly against Fiji or one of the Pacific nations as a warm up for the qualifiers away, or play in London (UK) against someone like Canada or Trinidad & Tobago? Doesn't seem likely though as it's been left a little late, most nations have games arranged already!

Sam Worthington giving the pot a good stir this morning...

http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/football/7182433/Ricki-Herberts-football-juggling-act-getting-harder

Sack Ricki, only one voice in NZ football, Ryan did all the coaching at the World Cup anyway, two jobs = too much, haven't we learnt anything from Honiara etc etc.

I have to say I am firmly in the country before club, World Cup before A-League, camp. Hopefully the Phoenix games get moved but if the Nix have to put out a reserve team in those two games then so be it.

What is there to fear anyway? Worked well for GCU!

Would stop them playing for TW for a month. Would the new domestic season have started by then?

This is not our or Ricki's fault at all but ultimately we need to sort out this problem - it's just not a workable solution currently

Not our problem if they can't play for TW for a month. I thought the whole point of the academy setup was to expose promising youngsters to a professional football environment and to to get first dibs on any who could be A League quality. Giving them game time for the Nix allows us to see how they step up to a higher level and gives them some experience at that level. Well worth it in exchange for a 4 week standdown IMHO. Also TW get the benefit of having some of their players training in the pro setup, which the other NZFC franchises don't get and so if this means they can't play for a while that's the payoff.

People like Coldplay and voted for the Nazis. You can't trust people.

Why is it rushed?

It's pretty much in line with the way it's done in Europe, it's hardly revolutionary.

You don't do it this way, you have to play in June 2013, which is when the Confederations Cup is on, and I'm guessing this term was to be avoided to give the Oceania winner a bit of preparation time. September 2013 I think would be too late to still be playing the last round of the Oceania qualifiers with the play-off just around the corner.

I've always been under the impression that Ricki's 2+2 contract with the Nix was intended to provide a solution. If he moves into some kind of "football related matters" role (Director of Football) with the Nix at the end of this season then that could definitely be a part-time role, which frees up some serious time for the All Whites. Not sure if the Nix and NZF have already had discussions to that effect? It would mean they can both continue to only part of his total salary, which probably suits both parties (although the Nix would pick up a new Head Coach salary).

The timing would mean he's much more available to the All Whites in the lead-up to Brazil (if we've qualified).

Two problems remain:

1. Short-term it's a bitch. He's got a very busy time between now and next March/April.

2. Long-term it doesn't do much to satisfy those who think he's got his fingers in too many pies already. He would still be Director of Football at the Nix and coach of the All Whites.

what does a director of football do anyway. I imagine it means he'll be able to excuse himself when international duty calls without consequence.

A Director of Football would not benefit New Zealand Football.

CENTRAL Coast Mariners will venture to New Caledonia next week for a two-match tour of the Pacific island.

New Caledonia are currently preparing for their 2014 FIFA World Cup Round 3 Qualifying Match against New Zealand on September 7, and have invited the Mariners to Noumea to assist them in their lead up.

Graham Arnold’s men will face Les Cagous on August 16 and 18 in Noumea.

With New Caledonia recently reaching the final of the 2012 OFC Nations Cup, Arnold understands that Alain Moizan’s men will provide a stern test for the yellow and navy.

And, with the matches marking the Mariners first two fixtures of their pre-season, Arnold said the results of the games won’t be of importance to him or his charges.

“We are keen to help New Caledonia in their preparation and are honoured that their Football Federation has invited us to Noumea for the games.”

“For us, the friendlies will be about getting minutes into the legs of our players. The stakes are currently a lot higher for New Caledonia who have performed impressively against their Oceanic opposition recently.”

“Although the trip is only for five days I am pleased with the opportunity to get the players into a camp situation.”

Mistake for Auckland to have a qualifier but glad about Christchurch. Hopefully that Dunedin will get the 3rd match and the play-off at Westpac Stadium.

question to those going to north harbour.  Do you have any thoughts on where to put the White Noise zone?  Answers due tomorrow.

Having never been to North Harbour before, my educated answer would have to be wherever is easiest to stumble to after 12 pints of cider at Foxes.

ha well last time they put us on half way in the main stand.  Fair to say the other fans didn't like that too much.  Was thinking one of the corners in the uncovered stand.

Foxes to NHS is no easy jaunt.  Best we avoid the old Speights at NHS as well.  Might investigate other bars in Albany for a pre-game venue and line up the Fox post game.

Wherever it is - it needs to be clearly advertised as such and enforced. It's fair that the other fans didn't like it, but it's not fair for them to demand we sit in the standing area. Hopefully Ticketek and stadium security will do their jobs properly this time.

Hit up Fox early so they no we won't abandon them?  Last time was awesome.  They let us stay for quite a while and we (probably only half a dozen or so) were the only punters.  Then to Danny Doolan's for a spot of shape cutting.

End of an era.  Vinnie - It's over.

Nor the first stage of qualifying.

I hope he has made this decision because he realised that not coming to the Nations Cup was the wrong decision.

Dont start blaming him for the loss.

More wrong decisions were made on the field than off it I thought

While also keeping in mind that Reid's a young guy still trying to figure things out. Nelsen's history in this respect is far from stellar.
