The sellout was also in the football capital of the country. Auckland isn't as good at going to games.

Or to have the first leg : )

So long as the away result was not a 3 - 0 score line or even maybe a 2 - 0 i'd think we get them through the door.

People saw the buzz on tv and lived the excitement of it all. Who there (went to Welly) would want to miss out on feeling that euphora again??

Haven't been following things hugely, but has there been any hint of where 22 March game against New Caledonia will be played?  I assume that FFA said no to the request to reschedule the 23 March Nix vs W@nky Jests (with twunty Thiago) as well.

If so then possibly would mean Wgtn hosting both matches??????

New Zealand Football Statement: Clarification of October 16 All Whites fixture

Contrary to a report in the New Zealand Herald this morning, New Zealand Football is not seeking to move the date of the 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Tahiti in Christchurch that is scheduled for Tuesday 16 October in Christchurch. While there are only three days between the match day 3 fixture against Tahiti in Papeete on Friday October 12 (Saturday Oct 13 NZT) and the Christchurch match, these dates for World Cup qualifiers are mandated by FIFA and are locked in.The match in Christchurch will take place at 7.35pm on Tuesday October 16 as originally announced.

Snap.  Just booked flights. $98 return.

Now for match tickets.  I assume there is white noise zone, and we'll be within coo-ey.

I know, I know, its serious!

So what then? Back to Auckland for another blunder?

We will never fully decide who has won the football.

Pretty sure they originally stated that Wellington would get the inter-continental play-off, but none of these games.

Permalink Permalink

Considering the players need to get a flight to Brisbane to make their way to Honiara, this probably isn't surprising. Same reason would rule New Plymouth out.

Why not Hamilton? We put it on for the Nix game here a couple of years ago and have had nothing since. Certainly deserve it more than Auckland.

Hamilton a good chance I would have thought.

That's a shame.  Wgtn makes much more sense for the players.
However it would also be good for the AWs to challenge for this:

For purposes other than football this would NOT bother me.

Kevin Airs @KevinAirs442

Set your alarm clocks - FIFA have finalised match times for 2014 WC. Games will be played between 2am and 10am Sydney-time - final at 5am...
So that would be 4am - midday NZ time? Pretty good viewing times for us.

YF believability factor - 1/10

i suspect that they are waiting for the super rugby draw to be done to see which stadiums will be in use when.

Convienently the Hurricanes have a bye the weekend of 22 March.

The Phoenix are playing in Wellington on 23 March so you think common sense might prevail and the game will be in Wellington.

The Chiefs v Highlanders game is listed as venue TBC.

3RD time lucky...

Does Ricki pick a new squad for the next stage of the Oceania Qualifiers, or is the squad he named for hte first two games it??

Just thinking that Fenton could be a real bolter and make it in based on how much Ricki has been talking him up lately in the news and also on the match reports by those at pre season games.

We are in the final stage of Oceania qualifying...unless you mean the next round of matches in this qualifying phase?
If you mean the latter, then squads get picked before each international window in which the games are played, rather than having to name one squad that has to play all the matches in a given phase.

Personally I think the future for mid-week qualifiers is to take them to non-standard venues.  Hamilton, New Plymouth, Dunedin etc. My gut feeling is that you're far more likely to get a big crowd mid-week in one of those centres than elsewhere as you're more likely to attract a casual fan to places that don't get a lot of international sport, or top level football.  It clearly doesn't work at Nth Harbour in AKL, Wellington hasn't been that great either.

I don't like at all the idea that all games should be in Wellington.  Everyone in the country should get an opportunity to see the All Whites play, plus if they're going to charge $30 + people are far more likely to pay that if they know they're only watching one game a year.
