Fuck this stupid game

What I find frustrating that that they could have already pretty much sold this game out already.  After the game in Dunedin where we qualified, they should have announced the venue, put the tickets on sale and then run loads of footage of the Bahrain game everywhere.  Tickets would have started selling immediately.  I fear that the general public have now lost inteterest in this, and if they go on sale on the back of some poor age group world cup performances and some uninspiring friendly results, people will not care.

Actually, one of the few reasons for the delay that I am OK with is if NZF are also using the time to get their marketing ducks in a row.

I'm not sure I agree that they would have already sold heaps of tickets by now. I think they would have sold an initial 5-10k straight away but then it would have stalled until much closer to the time. The marketing would have run the risk of being stretched over such a long time that it was potentially counter-productive i.e. gave the impression that the tickets were selling much slower than last time, therefore less of an event and that's where people start to lose interest.

Even when they announce the venue I expect that they might delay actual ticket sales until later and then do a much more concentrated marketing push. At least people will be able to get travel sorted (as long as they are happy to do that without a ticket).

I'm actually not as bothered about the delay as some. I'd prefer they do a good job. And it's only a quirk of the situation in Oceania that we even have such a long lead in time. Plenty of the other confederations aren't even at this point yet.

So glade its in Auckland, If you cant be a side there then you don't belong at a World Cup.

The only reason NZF would need marketing ducks in a row is if it was in Auckland.

If it was in Wellington they'd sell it out within 24 hours - *no marketing required.

*no = very little compared to what Auckland will require.

Hmm don't think so.

The last one only started selling out after the 0-0 first leg result. Another disadvantage of the short time between games.

That depends entirely on the result of the first leg imo. If we got pumped 5-0 in Bahrain then the month in between games would have done a lot of harm for ticket sales. This way, hopefully the majority of tickets sold will be sold before the first leg is played.

the only marketing they need is to show clips of the Bahrain game and convince people that they do not want to miss out on a night like that if it happens again.  Make the tickets $25 and they are gone within a week.

Won't be $25 though. They don't want it to sell out in a week. They want to make as much money as possible so they will try and set a price point where it sells out but only just.

Prepare for much angst over next couple of months as debate rages about whether they got the strategy right.

Sells out straight away = should have charged more

Doesn't sell out straight away = charged too much

NZF seem to be pissing off a few people with knowing the decision but not communicating it.

Very tight-lipped too, I'm a little surprised that it hasn't been leaked on the forums.

After an extensive 5 day hotel hunt rumour is the NZF Board are reconvening tomorrow morning to vote on two final outstanding matters:

  1. whether or not to pay for the hotel rooms via credit card and cop the applicable 1.5% transaction fee
  2. whether to choose the deal which includes a hot buffet breakfast

Haha that's gotta be it. If we can just hold out another week, we're bound to get a bargain. If we book now then you just know there will be a deal tomorrow.

I wouldn't imagine there'd be any angst on here about the strategy if they sold out, irrelevant of if it was too quick or too slow.  Selling out is the priority as far as I am concerned.

So sell the tickets at $10 then?

Nah, they need to get the right combination of selling it out and making as much cash as possible. In Wellington every $10 they add to the price is another $350,000 revenue. So the difference between $25 and $50 is getting towards $1m. That's definitely worth thinking about.

for me personally (and I would think for the majority on here) the cash is not that important.  I am sure it is vitally important for many people at the NZFA, but I couldn't give a monkey's how much coin they get.  We got $10m or so from the WC and has anyone noticed a great deal of difference to football here?  Are we are better footballing nation?  Are our subs cheaper?  I think the answer to both of those questions is no (although it is obviously frightfully early for the first one, but I don't see any massive steps in the right direction).  Because of this, NZFA making an additional $350k is no where near as important as getting a great crowd in and creating another unforgettable night for NZ Football.

Having said all of that, I think this is getting slightly off topic (which is about how taking 3 months to pick one out of two is becoming a fucking embarrassing story)

It is now 106 days since we new the match would be played in NZ..... !

I assume that whenever (soonish) the announcement is made the ticket sales will be delayed even further. Since the Nix season ticket holders will get "preferential access to All Whites Intercontinental play-off match tickets" (and the season tickets won't arrive for ages either).
