Good luck to both ACFC and WU in (is it) the last game of the round robin, before one will be taking on the Falcons in Nelson.

2 rounds to play Waitakere need huge win to have any chance of making the Final, A draw will suffice for Auckland

Yes was just checking back and saw that - as you say 2 big wins  for WU and 2 losses for ACFC is a tall order. This weekend should see ACFC through.

Interesting that last year we were told that the final (Otago vs Auckland) had to be a curtain raiser to the Prem final hence it was played at Fre Taylor. Why the change of heart from NZF?

Probably because nobody went to last year's game. Would get a decent crowd in Nelson I suspect

This. The Nelson Mail has reported crowds of like 700 at some games this year (which is a huge huge exaggeration), but I can't see why you wouldn't get 500 to the final. Would you get that many in Auckland for a youth final?

I had the crowd at 200 for last year's one. Aucklanders didn't care about it enough to arrive hours in advance, somewhat understandably, and very few people were silly enough to fly up from Otago. This will likely be the biggest thing on Nelson's footballing calendar, so good decision IMO.

Edit: Related - Auckland must be the only side not to have players from their youth team last year not represent their squad this year. At least from the final, I can't see any player who has made an apperance this season in the game-day suad.

Yeah would of been so much better at Tahuna Park!!!
There's never a fair way of doing it, But logistically it made sense last year,
I think its a good idea to have it in Nelson this year

That ACFC wanted to win the ASBP so bad they recruited senior players instead of dipping into their youth team?  Not that i think that's the worst thing in the world (as long as it dosn't happen year on year and i think there is enough data to suggest it dosn't)

Which players could of made the step up then?
And would be interested in comparisions with other ASB Prem teams and there Youth squads if N-Bomb has the numbers?

IIRC Canterbury have only had one player step up from last year's youth to be a regular in senior team (Cory Mitchell). A few have had less opportunities than last year - Yamamoto, Spain, Bush. One of the criticisms of Keith is that he likes more mature players, with accents, which leads you straight into the debate that is: WTF is the ASBP all about?
I reckon Aussie NPL has got it about right that NZF could mimic - feeder league to A-League for young, local players.

Shawn O'Brien has also featured for seniors in every game this season. Aaron Spain did not feature at all this season.
O' Brien 4 starts + 10 as sub
Bush 1 as sub
Yamamoto 1 start + 6 subs
Mitchell 14 starts

Auckland City FC's youth side book their spot in the final with a 2-1 win over Waitakere United Youth yesterday.

Was at APFA  for a couple of years before getting released   Then played for Hamilton Wanderers Metro U17 in 2011. Went to Melville in mid 2012 and was a bit player in Declan's 1st team. Played no club football in 2013. Played for Sacred Heart and NZ U17 in 2013. Is now at Wellington Phoenix and turning out for TW. Good young lad, very tidy on the ball.

Strange. A non-graduate then?

Canterbury stuck to their game plan. TW youth could do better if someone could explain team to them and they understood what it meant .

Who is coaching them since Stu Pyne moved on?

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Assistant stepped in for last few games.  But season was over.

Is it true a Canterbury played slapped the ref and got red carded today? That would be a very very lengthy ban I'd say.

Permalink Permalink

Canterbury player (O.Evans) was booked for a challenge; as he and ref were departing the scene of the incident the player has recklessly thrown his arm out (the way i saw the gesture it was one of frustration and disagreement) and it's connected with the ref's back. Ref has shown him a red. Stupid, reckless, but I didn't interpret it as a deliberate attempt to touch the ref; not as bad as you make out Luis.

Kick racism out of football.

Three for me, and two for them.

Two foot tackle on nelson's captain which led to a yellow in which he then deliberately pushed the ref in disagreement. Absolutely stupid on his behalf.

Not sure sorry. There can't be many under-17 from Suburbs in the Falcons, I think most were from the clubs like FC Nelson and Richmond Athletic. Does Richmond Athletic go to that too? They might have a few.
