Late withdrawal.  Borked.  Same with jamie O'Connor although young Tyler Lissette as his replacement did well.

Tyler Lissette from Melville? Whats he doing down there? Also was that former Auckland city player Matt Williams or just the same name?

I went. Was OK. Mullligan looked very good.
Was chilly. Was prepared. Others weren't...

Mate drinkers looked prepared -

Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

We went ; first time at DF park for us but a lovely wee ground to watch football at.
Team Welly had much the better of the first half I thought but didn't have a clear cut chance.Lots of good running down the left in particular but the final ball in was often lacking.I don't know too many of the Welly players yet but I thought that the 2 midfielders ,Eager and Haliakis ( sp?) were very good.
Second half started with Welly still in the dressing room and they were lucky not to concede very early on.For the first 20 minutes of the second half , I thought Auckland was much better and Welly was restricted to some quick breaks.I don't know if they were tired but some of the passing late in the second half was woeful.Mulligan got better and better as the game went on and  , I thought , was the dominant figure ( other that that absolute cock of a referee).Still , the penalty was a fair enough call but great save from Imray. The other guy who impressed me a bit was a late sub for Welly ( ?Kain , no 24). Quick , keen and a good first touch.
All up , draw was fair enough and some of the passing  , firat half especially , was really good to watch. We'll be back next week.

I didn't think mulligan played too well tbh, I suppose he did take all the deadballs etc but wasn't too impressed otherwise. I guess tw will be happier with that result.

nah he was good. he just took the simple options rather than trying to dribble round five players like everyone else

Yup that is him.  He's living down here now and has been training with the nix quite a bit.

Really?  thought he was very average in the first half.  Got on the ball a lot more in the 2nd.  Can't remember him making his a tackle.  Couple of his free kicks were good, but a couple were shockers.

Yeah, check the Phoenix transfer thread O6.  I asked him how long he was in town for and he said 'we'll see'.

Team Wellington, looked much better than anything I saw last year. Better to play with more local players than imports I think

Give Emi some time, he'll be hitting the back of the net soon enough.

Abba and Fifi looked dangerous I thought. Definitely had more pace than the Auck defenders...ahh bring back Rupert Ryan and G Little

Abba and Fifi may have been fast but they were predictable.

If they are faster than the defender it doesn't matter

They tried to go around the outside of the full backs every time and all the defenders had to do was push them wide then they turned and played the ball back to a midfielder. If they ever got past they had a head start but AC defenders had them pretty much covered the whole game.

Cheers Gilly, great stuff. Are we going to get highlights of all the TW games this season?

I am looking forward to watching the lads get tore into Canterbury on Sunday. It should be another tough game against last years beaten finalists.

Hopefully the the shift to DF is permanent? It is far better than Newtown Park. Running tracks and footy spectating do not mix.

Barring any unforeseen problems we should have a similar highlights package for each home game.

Where is the youth game Gilly?

Te Whaea at 12.45pm.
Unfortunately it could not start any earlier so there is a clash with the senior game.
The Youth team are at home next Sunday as well, 1.30pm @ Te Whaea against Manawatu, while the senior side have a weekend off.

Yer he's fantastic. Saw him in the Mainland Premier League and the Under 19's tourney and he was ripping up juniors and seniors all over the place. Fast, skillful, and twice the Islander our last castoff (Fifii) was....

The Canterbury boys are at the ground warming up and they reckon the pitch looks awesome. Lets hope they get a result and have a win for the first time in eight years in Wellington.
