Right so 'IF' they were giving Jason Hayne that ammount, why do so when if you have that cash to spare, you could pick up maybe 4 decent players at $300 each? Is complete stupidity to do se because he is not worth $1200 a week - in fact any amount. Whats he done?

Hence the wind up.

Look Jeff im only stating true facts.

Maybe you are right maybe he is not worth that but it has lured him back and no one would turn that down.

Infact this is how crazy this league is. Manawatu have bought a from the club that gave them money in the first place to do so. Hayne is on the money, that Auckland City won at World Club Champs that was shared out between the franchises. So really Auckland City can feel a little hard done by. However the spread out of quality places is good for the league.

Does HB have a youth team? Has that squad been announced?

Yeah they do but the squad is still being formed I think.

Is Leon Birnie fit this season?  Afterall if he plays well HBay play well.  Without him it will be a long hard season.

Chris Mcivor is stll playing? that guy is past his use by date.

Actually I differ with you there Rabbit.  I think with Birnie, Mcivor and Taylor in the team the Bay can draw on a wealth of experience.

McIvior is "assistant coach/player" he could do a good job coming on in the last 25 30mins of game, but is well past his best.

Birnie is always broken and i think he will have a jab or two as the season goes on.
Taylor will hold the back together vital to the team.

HB youth team will be average at best!

I have no problem with Hawkes Bay Utd wanting to put a statue of Mcivior out the front of the clubrooms to recognise his service to the club, but its time for him to hang up the boots and take a seat. Leon Birnie can still perform at this level, he did well last year think he has a couple of seasons left in him.

Still think Chandler should stick to indoor football. Hes a muppet

I can't believe that guy is still reporting on football in the HB rag. He doesn't know a thing.

So the home reporter says the home team was rubbish. Hardly a case of one-eyed reporting that you'd see from Maddaford

Didn't say he is one eyed, said he is sh*t. Every article is a cringe fest. I got to "So where did Hawke's Bay United soccer team go wrong?" and closed the page.

Basically putting the game down in the Bay. After a great crowd one of the biggest in a while at Bluewater all he does is dog them.

from what i can tell he knew what was going on in this game. because what he has said and what i saw are pretty much the same. HBU were sh*t.
You would hope Bevin gets a start next week if he was one of the best players after coming off the bench.

It would be fair to say that most would be dissappointed with the result and the overall team performance. I just didn't think it was as bad a performance as he made out - still not so much that I would say he was biased or had it in for HB football. If our performance didn't improve then I'd be a little bit worried but I saw enough to be hopeful. Waitakere look to be a very good side and a single goal difference would have been a better indication of the 2 sides. Waitak's goalie made a couple of fine saves and Jarrod Smith was causing them problems till he had to go off [4 to 5 weeks apparently]. Cole Peverley was absolute class.

Another thing, I reckon you wouldn't get bigger and better local football coverage in a NZ newspaper than with HB Today and its all down to Andera [the sports editor]. You guys from outside the region wouldn't be expected to know but the locals here would have to concede that.

I'd have to agree with ya there Phoenix, although i'm not a hugh fan of Mr Singh he does promote the game, but maybe putting a write up about womans div 3 in the paper as he does is a bit much

Will Jarrod Smith ever be fit again?

He does tend to get a bit flowery and poetic in his writings doesn't he?

I hope Jarrod does come right, he is a huge talent and offers a bit of mongrel up front.

Great article. Had truth aswell aswel a bit of banter. To be fair to Birnie stats dont lie. He is a great. Jordan and Young had great stats at City but Birnie playing for a team that has never reached great heights its a credit to him. Birnie will overtake McIvor as Hawkes Bays favourite son.

Are there better young players who you think should be there instead?

Yeah Sam Martin for sure! Might as well get Reiily O'meagher in there as he has just made u17 extended squad and is better then Chandle.  there are a few other young guys as well that should be ahead of him as far as involvment with the National league team goes, but not to sure what there interest is like, i'm sure if they were asked they would be keen.

Even the article doesn't say its a sure thing he will start. I'm prepared to see how he goes at this level before making judgement.

Not sure what you really mean here but if the insinuation is that some kids might not automatically want to play for HBU then they don't deserve the opportunity. Perhaps its a generational thing but we want kids that will die to play for the franchise not pick and choose whether they play or not.

each to there own aye, not much hope for HB football if he is a awful! behind andy bevin i think he is the 2nd best school boy in the area, maybe lee jackosn is up there, both ahead of chandler, and 10 touches biss.
I know for a fact he is held in high regard at NCR but the coaching staff and supporters. But then what would they know?the_gaffa_hb2010-11-08 16:28:29

if he was held in such high regard im sure he would have featured more prominently in their 1st team. the fact is high school football has been rubbish for the past 3 years! could list dozens of better players when they were at high school.

high school football has always been a waste of time!!! Doesn't have to feature in 1st team to be held in high regard, he is only young, bevin was really the only young player in the squad.
I think the U19 final proved how good biss is.

Gaffa, what are your thoughts on high school football? should that age group be handled by the clubs?
Permalink Permalink
over 15 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
i think they should play for school during the week if they want and clubs at the weekend for the kids that want to. but that argument has been going on for years, unfortunitly one school in HB has the power when it comes to school football. Its not good having the likes of chandler biss and martin playing school in morning and fed in afternoon.

bissy is a good player but if we're talking about the 19's final hobson mc-viegh his opposite was outstanding. did lower hutt touch the ball in the 2nd half?
