Great result for the Bay. There's a bit more there than last year though don't you think? in terms of potential anyway.

Hamish W, Sam M and Bill R.

Read the match report on NZFC.co.nz and Chandler has apparently resigned with Chris M and Jonathan T to take over.

My bet is that he's going to Redlands. A couple of his ex players are with them.

That's a bit of a shame for HBU. He seamed like he was doing a good job and had built a decent team for the season. Hope it doesn't prove to be too disruptive for the team and they can still get good results. Obviously he's being offered a pretty good deal wherever he's going.

Decent job...

Have HBU qualified for the playoffs in 8 years? I ask if thats a decent job, then fine.

No. HBU are the only team never to have made the playoffs (Otago qualified in 06 when there were 5 teams).

Three for me, and two for them.

Has he really been the coach for 8 years?

To be honest with you I was talking about this year where I know a lot more about what's going on in the team and had just thought that they had potential to make the top four. I've only recently started supporting HBU since my brother has been playing for them.

No he hasn't been coach for the whole 8 years. Only 3 I think.

And how many coaches have made the play-offs in those three years?

The point I was making is that you said Chandler did a decent job. If not making the play offs is a decent job, then thats ok.

I'm not sure how many coaches have made the play offs, but as i said HBU are the only side to have never qualified for the playoffs since the NZFC started. For me, regardless of who is or was coaching during that period, that is a huge failure.

Three for me, and two for them.

Yeah and I'm sure they're aware of that. All they can do is get on with it and try and be better. As I said I think this year they look like they have a decent side and I hope the loss of their coach doesn't effect their performances too much. Imo it's likely to.

The only team hes had success with was Napier city rovers prems because he stacked it full of players to win a weak league with both fed and central league above it. left the higher two teams in trouble with fewer players. when it doesn't go his way he moves on in a hurry no loyalty, he will only be successful at a club that is well established and already winning everything.

the only way that team will be effected is if a new coach comes along and makes alot of changes which he cant really do coz he is stuck with chandlers team.. they have enough level headed players to keep them on track anyway

I would have thought this years team is quite different to past teams already though? What changes would you propose?

More youth? I dunno I could be wrong on that but there's also the likes of Cowan, Margretts? and the two English imports who add a bit of quality experience. To be honest I'd just like to know more about what other people think of the current team. I don't see a lot of games so am just going off what I'm hearing.

theres still weak links some players give the ball away way too much, yes they got away with it on weekend but that team played very poor likes of wellington or auckland teams would punish that. the team is pretty much youth, i dont think the team is any better than previous years just other teams have become worse and the league is worse than when it first started. part of that is the auckland teams kill it and just throw money at players elsewhere who are key players in teams. As soon as a team like auckland city keep the ball for long periods of them game hb united will be in trouble. e.g. waitak

Success with Rovers prems? He stacked that team with 15-18year olds who were playing with school teams and HB united youth who were coming through the ranks to generate decent youth players. They won the league undefeated and learned to play alot better and grew as players. All he has done is tried to bring Youth through Hawkes Bay which is great, He gives them a good shot and I don't want to say he is like Neil Emblem but they are very similar they give youth a shot.

so people like JT are youth interesting... they had at least 6 or 7 players who could have played higher getting exposure in a tougher league rather than put these kids on a pedestal in a league that is not challenging them! how are they going to grow as players when its that easy for them?

I think he will be missed, he has done a good job with what he's got to work with. Sources have confirmed he's off to Redlands in Brisbane.

He has done alot, He helped them grow as players.. Most of the players who were in that team were unfamiliar to tactics that he was using he was developing them, and also JT and Macca were in there for more experience to help them out. He wasn't holding back anyone.. You either get picked to play higher or you don't. A few players were called up during the season to fill in as replacements. Can't all blame him. Some of these players may not even be were they are without the help of chandler building them up. He has continued the Academy and its working well. I say well done to him and the only other decent coach in HB that I have seen would be Grant Hastings. So stop hating and just step up if you want to do the same job.

Redlands is not a bad club. I think Graeme Fyfe is there right?

I think this year they actually have a team that is not bad. Last years team looked like they tried to bring in many different 'name' players but did it all wrong. I like the young Sam Margetts after initially thinking he was a bit of a t**ser and had a good season up here. Bill at the back is solid, Cowan is fit as f**k and brings experience. I'm honestly not sold on Milos upfront though.

Your having a laugh mate!! obviously you have not been in around these coaches or know the set up or your a player who was favored by this guy so are in love with him full stop. talking with people around the bay they have the same view point and these are people who have been around for a long time in the game. Some of these players like who?? the players that have made it for themselves i think u will find have more so done it on their own merit and hard work not just a coach who facilitates a training session. Im not hating im just say ppl/you are building this guy up way too much. I bet part of the deal with that redlends job is his son gets a contract with the club... which is also a load of crap. and as for the academy working well you can hardly say that when hb united youth team is getting smashed every game.

This Franchise is turning into a joke, also with the u19s loosing 12 nil is pathetic the fact the only had 11 kids and the kid in goal isnt a goalie! come on sort it out they are rookie mistakes. Good to see the new coach is bringing good results, sorry bill but i think changes gonna have to be made to stop you guys from loosing.
