With his high level of humour and low level of seriousness terminator x should really be an ACFC fan.

Oh, so that's how we ended up with Toto. He got lost on his way to Kiwitea Street.

When the World Club Champs are on and Auckland City is playing i bet The Phoenix players and staff will be tuned in wishing they were there!

Auckland City provide a good atmosphere at their games and the small group who sing add to this.

Once again Auckland City will be representing NZ football on the world stage. No one knows about the Phoenix here.

Agreed - unfortunately the phoenix are locked out from the chance to qualify for this honour.
[QUOTE=Roger Rabbit]Auckland City provide a good atmosphere at their games and the small group who sing add to this.

Agreed

I don't see what this has to do with the Phoenix being bad for NZ Football though.

Auckland City FC/NZFC = good for NZ Football
Phoenix = Good for NZ Football.

I and many on here were thrilled when ACFC did well on the world stage, the issue is with those supporters who come on here and troll and make it an us vs them situation.

A quality which seems to be sadly lacking in our friends from ACFC-land. Maybe it's a Spanish thing?

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Marinovic may not be that bad.  He just hasn't made a breakthrough at any credible level yet, but he is pretty young.

Nice summary aitkenmike, exactly how I feel about it.

I have lots of respect for what ACFC are doing but if their fans are going to come on here and diss the Phoenix then they are going to get bitch-slapped every time.

Here's a novel idea for those who like to critisize the ACFC chants... How about joining in if you're an ACFC fan or if you're not, how about making up and singing your own anti ACFC/pro whatever team you support to help create an even better atmosphere at the games... Or would that be too much like a good time?

I think it's more that the Phoenix aren't even in tge asb prem, yet you feel the need to chant against them. Seems a but odd, especially since you even do it when playing sides other than team Wellington.

Surely even you see how that's a bit odd? I kind of get it if team Wellington were playing, same city and all (though it's s bit like making fun of our rugby team, not really relevant, but kind of related).

But anti-Wellington Phoenix chants when Canterbury are in town? You're obsessed.

To me, it's not a major that the chants are anti-phoenix but that there are chants at all is fantastic. Haven't heard any other prem fans singing which is a shame - even at the Waitak home games the only fans singing are City fans. I couldn't care less if the chants were about carrots or craters on the moon - anything's better than nothing... Would be brilliant if more joined in - City fans or otherwise.

Why not write an ant-Auckland/Spanish chant and sing it at the next TW v ACFC game?

Reason why: You're not that important.

If you want chanting move down to Wgtn and go to Nix games - you might have to have a second eye surgically inserted however.

Why not sing it during the next TW vs Waikato game. Since relevance apparently doesn't matter.

AAAAARRRRGGGHHHH!!!!! NO, NO, NO!!!! Do you have any pride at all in being from/living in NZ? That's like saying NZ is not that important and that Australia is vastly superior. I will continue to support New Zealand football and hope that it will continue to grow and maybe even prosper.

Thanks for your concern though.  Incidentally, how many Team Wellington home games have you been to?

None - why is that important? Didn't notice any chanting on the TV coveraqge of their home games.

alireggae - please help me out here. I am now completely confused as to what I am supposed to be proud of as a good, honest Kiwi.

For example - can you please explain exactly what is the difference between being proud of Auckland City for their achievements at the Club World Cup in 2009 (which I am) as opposed to being proud of the Phoenix or the Breakers or the Warriors for any successes they have in trans-Tasman leagues? (which I am also).

Also, should I be prouder of Valerie Vili for winning the NZ shot put championship or for winning an Olympic gold medal? Which is the greater achievement?

I really just want to be proud of NZ's sporting achievements wherever they occur but now I'm worried about being accidentally unpatriotic. Please help.

It's simple really.  If it is:

1. Auckland
2. Pretty cr#p compared with anything else internationally

Then it is an NZ sport that we should all be patriotic about.

Of course as a dinky-die Ocker I would say that.

You are like a mediaeval peasant asking an atheist whether he believes in God or the Devil. Once more time: I am an ACFC fan who also supports the Nix, which is no problem because they are in separate leagues. And I am starting a new ACFC fan group who will chant and sing at Kiwitea Street, joining in 248 Service Crew chants when appropriate but not participating in (or perhaps even counter-chanting against) anti-Nix chants. I can imagine the sweet hypocrisy when they start chanting negatively toward your group - leading to some not turning up for future games.

It will happen, and it will be hilarious (and sad at the same time)

Anybody else find it kind of ironic that the only set of supporters that say the nix are crippling the nzfc are from the one team that are doing rather well financially from the competition?

Yet the clubs that are struggling financially year to year don't seem to have this view (if anything they blame aucklands monopoly of the competition)

Tegal - has a brain just like the chicken

Even though our financial situation is fine there are other teams are in the red. All we want is that the Phoenix becomes separate from NZ Football, so that the money is invested in the local league where our next All Whites can develop at a decent level. After all, the best NZ players didn't come through the Phoenix but rather through the national league and overseas leagues first. And we don't want to be the monopoly in the competition and actually I am happy when a team like Waikato or Manawatu can get a result from us, or even if they win the national league next year. No chance the Nix fans would want Sydney or Melbourne to get a win against them.
