any anti Waitakere chants are ok in my book but bagging a team that isn't even in the same league seems a bit pointess

Mate, tomorrow night vs Waitakere at the Croatian Cultural Society. 7.15pm kick off.
Should be a decent game. ASBP players back for Central and I'm assuming the same for Waitakere.

  • True. When Rangers fans chant "the famine is over, why don't you go home", it creates an atmosphere. Just not a very nice one. Same, IMHO, for anti-Nix chants, considering that many people support both ACFC and Nix.

Grand - join in when you feel like it and don't when you don't.

Come on mate, if you really cared about creating an atmosphere at Kiwitea St you wouldn't sing songs that you know lots of people won't want to join in on.

It's a different place. McLeod Road in Te Atatu - near the end of the road on the right. Opposite side of the road and just back from Waitemata Football Club.

Entertaining gmae tonight. Central were the victors, 3-2 over Waitakere.
Central goalscorers - Corrales, Stu Hogg and Exposito.
Sorry not sure who scored for Waitakere.
Both Vicelich and Mulligan played for Central along with a number of other ACFC guys.

Nick, unfortunately it's nt just the media who don't give a crap, it's everyone.

I am going to turn this back on you and ask what is so great about the ASB Premiership that we should all love it?  I have been a regular at domestic football in NZ since I was about 12 but the standard has only marginally improved, the facilities are basic, the "experience" really is only for the hard core fan.

If you have only 2 days a week off what is it about the NZFC that people should be using one quarter off their day off to go and watch.  I go but that's because I'm a bit sad, but really isn't it a bit crap?  Is it any wonder that people prefer the nix, better stadium, better experience and better standard of play?  The only argument I ever here is that it is "local"...

With lower level rugby, or league or netball you at least have the argument that because they are not major overseas sports you are still only3-4 levels from the top even at NZ grass roots level.  On the other hand the NZFC is so far away from the top level of football and it is so bleeding obvious from the quality that is the case, it doesn't surprise me that some people would prefer a premiership match on the couch over what is actually a fairly mickey mouse competition.  Call me cynical that that is how I see it.
To add to that watching a match involving 2 of the 3 Waikato, Manawatu, Otago play would not be any better than Central League football or Northern League football. ACFC are lucky because they are essentially Central in disguise so they get a higher attendance fee because there is already an established 'club loyalty' Tell me how that works in Waikato where it is very fractured, Wellington where there are at least 3 dominant clubs with their own mix and Otago where they bitch fight in another forum.

Some real quality on show in the game. Hoggs goal was 30-35yards out into top corner. Exposito also scored a good one from edge of the area. Vicelich was outstanding. It is good for the young kids to watch these players on a friday night before their morning games. Waitakere had Emblem missing, thought he was player coach? However if you support Auckland City get down and watch Centrals games.

    • There can be many reasons for a moderate change of opinion or even a complete reversal and if one of those reasons is that Chris is reading the other side of the agument and adjusting his view point accordingly then those who were accusing him of ignoring parts of your argument are clearly wrong. I'd also say that when in the minority in your opinions with the majority against you then you tend to say things that may be more exagerrated than you mean especially under the cover of a forum.

Context/relevence.  Never mind.  Next Nix game I will try and create some atmosphere by chanting "Who the f**k are Man Utd."

alireggae is so confused. He seems to think ACFC/Nix is an Auckland/Wellington deal, which it's not at all. He should talk to jordybean - the ACFC knitting circle despised the Kingz/Knights as much as they do the Phoenix and for the exact same reason. It's an A-League vs coalface kiwi football thing.

Here's some interesting goss - apparently Vicelich, Esposito and one other ACFC player turned out for Central United's 3rd team (AFF Champs) against Western Springs. They won 10-1, Esposito just about taking the Springs keeper's head off with a cracking shot in the first minute.

I like to look at the ACFC forum from time to time just to see what the latest is.

Most of it is just the same old ranting about the Nix or NZF that you would expect, and they have an unfortunate habit of cutting and pasting stuff from here to get rarked up about.

The problem seems to be that they only have 58 registered members and there's clearly only four or five of them who actually ever post anything. So it's just the same handful of people cracking on about the same old sh*t all the time. At least this forum has some critical mass and diversity (of topics and opinions).

I miss Bluemagic coming on here though. I didn't often agree with him but it was good to actually have a debate. It seems he has found his comfort zone just issuing pronouncements to his followers on the ACFC forum, however, without any real fear of rebuttal. And some of the others - who have been posting here recently - really just don't have a clue.

I'd join their forum myself if it didn't seem like the cyber equivalent of going to Siberia. I'd rather post my thoughts where someone will actually see them!

Watched the NZ Under 17 team go through the motions of being a football team against the US. This is the World Cup for heaven's sake! To go out and just play for a goal-less draw was disgraceful. Had we won, we would have gone top of the group! And the US was reduced to 10 players. Yet we didn't even try to score for most of the game.

And there was City duo Aaron and Ramon sitting in the dugout looking like everything was going to plan. Not impressed at all.

This was cynical and boring. At least the US tried to attack until they went a player down. Would have served NZ right if they'd nicked a late goal and sent us packing.

It did go to plan. They got through to the last 16. These tournaments are a lot more than just one game. We are now actually competitive on the world stage. I guess you will be supporting the USA for the rest of the tournament?

No, I won't be supporting the US but I still say playing endless back passes was cynical and boring and not in the spirit of the game. People paid good money to see a game of football not keep-ball. If that's our plan then it lacks ambition and courage. I was very disappointed. After the first two performances we should have had more belief in ourselves. Had we won the group we'd be playing a third placed team. As it is we'll probably face a group winner.

If ACFC ever do that I'll be the first to voice my objection from the stand. I don't like negative play, like diving or time wasting. It ruins the greatest game on the planet. We must go to win games or we shouldn't be there.

That non-event reminded me of the infamous Germany vs Austria WC match where neither tried to score just to keep out Algeria.

It's actually impossible to win any competition if you don't progress out your group. Simple really even for those north of the Bombays.

Admittedly, cutting and pasting from here is something they do a lot - but that's only because otherwise they'd have nothing to talk about.
