*Let's be very clear that ACFC's players are not paid to play, however, but to coach children who live in the local community 'served' by the Trillion Trust's gaming machines.
Do their coaching qualifications match the amount of dollars they are being paid?

I don't think they have Uefa Pro A licences but I could be wrong.

Jeff so you wouldn't have Exposito in your side this season? or any of the Spanish imports? Wont be long until Auckland City have a side in the A-League and these lads will be playing in the league that you so far dont think they are good enough.
As for The CCM pre-season game - not sure what game you were watching Jeff but even Grahem Arnold said City were a class act and deserved their win and made special mention of the Spanish lads who did have outstanding games.
Jeff you clearly say things to wind people up, especially Auckland City fans. I really hope your not a coach at any level because id hate to see what you thought talent and quality was.
Cheers

You need to re-read.
I said that the imports were not quality. If they were, they would not be in this league and would be in a better league somewhere else. They are here for the paycheck, CWC and to be big fish for a little bit. That doesn't make them 'quality'.
As far as the imports go in this league however, they would be better than most at the moment I would suspect (having not seen the others)

Perhaps some tax advice for the players would be beneficial in helping maintain the illusion of the club's 'amateur' status.
Not really helpful when one of your own players/community coaches refers to 'cash payments' in last year's tax return.
Luckily the IRD treat this like any other employee or contractor tax matter, without realising the consequences to the employer's reputation as an NZFC club.

I really hope this is true. Partly because I'd love to see someone make it work in Auckland, partly because I'd love a chance to see ACFC fans put their money where their (loud) mouths are, and partly because it would be awesome for New Zealand to have a derby game like that.
Of course you wouldn't be able to be "sponsored" by Trillian any more. Wonder what that would do to the budget...
Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

But they couldn't. They would have to move to Waitakere or otherwise they would supporting Australian football (again) instead of good honest Coalface New Zealand football.

Apparently Exposito was different class in the Islands. Quality Import. Great result for City, i thought they might struggle with the heat and conditions in the Solomons.

Missed sarcasm makes me sad.
7 locals in an amateur side is rather low, choosing to gloat about it was an interesting decision.

Gimme a break Jordybean.
The truth is that after years of baiting us about it, it turns out your precious ACFC are just as happy to employ overseas talent in the pursuit of their aims. I don't have a particular problem with that, just don't be a f**king hypocrite about it.

That's not all that unusual for a pro side.
But it is unusual for an amateur side to have so few locals. I'd be impressed if you were a pro side..though I guess you are in all but official status - so well done.

Maybe Jordybean needs to clarify exactly what's the magic number of Kiwis required in a side for coalface credibility these days. Is it 5? 6? 7? More?
Whatever it is, Team Wellington clearly have bucket-loads more of it than ACFC right now.
Anyway, who gives a sh*t. I'm off soon to watch proper professional football in NZ with about 10,000 of my mates.
Enjoy the rest of your arvo Jordybean.

Whether its full of kiwis or half kiwis and half spanish, i dont think we should be complaining. Auckland City is keeping the ASB LEAGUE alfoat with its performances in World Club Champs. Their 5th place finish was more important that what many people realise. 3 franchises were waiting upon money they would recieve from Auckland Citys performance and in the papers said they would not be able to enter the competition if they did not recieve this money in time. I hope Auckland City do well again this year at the World Club Champs and continue the support they offer to the other franchises. Some people are un grateful and forget about the importance of Auckland City having the best team possible whether that be kiwi based or have import influence.

No-one here begrudges the success ACFC have had, and everyone has supported them, and will support them, in the CWC.
What people do begrudge is the tedium of certain ACFC fans who come on here spouting the same old lines of the Phoenix being the destroyer of New Zealand football, while ACFC is the shining example of leadership to be blindly followed if football in this country is to prosper.
Needless to say, quite a few people here enjoy the occasional humorous jab at the many, many logical inconsistencies of such a position.

Im in no way directing anything at the Phoenix although i do believe Auckland City would be more than comfortable playing in that league especialy after watching the standard in last weekends games. I was more directing my post to the fans of other ASB franchises you dislike Auckland City and Jealously(if thats a word) have a pop at them because they are successful, but they dont realise Auckland Citys success is not only helping out their own franchise but also the League and NZ Football. What people do begrudge is the tedium of certain ACFC fans who come on here spouting the same old lines of the Phoenix being the destroyer of New Zealand football, while ACFC is the shining example of leadership to be blindly followed if football in this country is to prosper.

I dont care what country the football is from i'll watch most games, although i must admit supporting whoever the Phoenix are playing makes it a bit more interesting!!

I don't want to get into the above argument or discussion. However ive been thinking...What Phoenix players would make Auckland City's lineup? Thoughts?
Id possibly say Durrante for Berlanga , Bertos for Coombes and Greenacre for Tade. Apart from those 3 i don't think the others would make the starting lineup.
Would love to see Auckland City in the A-league. Such a well balanced side and deadly in flank positions and going forward.

Been over this many times before
The NZ football you say you support will never prosper as long as NZ has a team in the A-League especially one with so few NZ players thats why i will never support Phoenix or whoever
and i guess we'll see you at Kiwitea St on Sunday then to show your support for TW
