Sooo....

1) I do not need to 'hang my head in shame' because I did not go to watch the Phoenix in Auckland. The people who need to 'hang their heads in shame' are a) the person who wrote the article in Stuff and those who do watch the Phonix in Eden Park but have never fronted to an ACFC or Waitakere game. When it comes down to it (I'm basing this on absolutely nothing as Ive never seen a Phoenix game) ACFC and the Phoenix are probably of a similar standard and yet the media - and consequently, the public - are falling over themselves to promote the phoenix whilst near enough ignoring the ASBP.

2) I don't care if ACFC have a heap of Spanish players or if the Phoenix have a heap of Aussies, English and whatever else. I support ACFC and not the Phoenix. ACFC play in the NZ league, Phoenix in Aussie league. I have liitle interest in an Welly team in Aussie league.

3) Brendan Telfer on radio sport? Come on! At the beginning of his Friday show he said that ACFC play on Sunday so I sent a text correcting him. An hour and a half and much Phoenix talk later he corrected himself saying the game was on Sat at 3pm - wrong again. Sometime before that he said that nobody went to ASBP games - Well if you can't get the date ant time right is it any wonder?

4) well done to Robb, Ard Choillie and one other for at least fronting at The Auckland game - many others did not - it's sad really.

Good three points, but probably the worst performance by the ACFC this season.

probably the worst ACFC winning performance I have ever seen ACFC underperformed but nonetheless Hekari were worthy opponents pretty sure they will win the PNG league if they haven't already and cause another kiwi team grief in next years O League

Oh... wow... talkative to back the players you name

Hogg we agree on
Imray, no issue with that or Spoonley

Pearce - has the talent, but is too 'me focused' I think.

Adam Thomas I think fits into that catageory of being a future good player. I think he needs to figure out his coordination first as he is still developing into his body.

Feneridis - He would be an invisible footballer more so than he is now.

Rowley - Lacks the first touch and pace and fitness. Yeah he played there with NSL but that was a few years ago and the A League is a step up from that. He is now as good as he is going to be.

Terris - you must be having a laugh.

Clapham - would get kicked off the ball. Has the touch, has the skill  but he has been pegged as a wide man when he really is a central player. He needs to add the ability to run with the ball and also ride the tackle.

I don't disagree with quite a bit of this.

I chose getting on the hammer ahead of going to the O League game but only out of laziness, not out of disinterest.  There was such a short time between my flight arriving and the Nix game that I didn't fancy wrestling public transport out there and back.

I also think it's a shame that the ASB Premiership isn't better covered.  How can we solve this problem?

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Fundamentally Ali, you don't care about each teams make up, you just support ACFC and you are entiteld to that. Good on you. Telfar always has been a golf/knob jockey and as having discussed a few pages back, the coverage is deplorable and Maddaford and the Granny Herald could at least start by calling it 'Football'

I went to ACFC to watch what would probably be described as a poor performance Auckland performance. Such is life in football I suppose.

Get rid of the nix. Then ASBP will be getting 20,000 to games.

It needs more money behind it, for marketing and to play in less obscure parks.

A more consistent fixture scheduling helps too (though has that been fixed this year?)

Have a model where all clubs in the region are involved,so it's not seen as one clubs summer team (by some). Or have a Waikato situation. Also be more proactive promoting sides within clubs, have the fixture list out early so it can be put up in clubrooms toward the end of the season, season passes (with the fixture list on them) can also be sold to club members toward the end of the season.

Involving a Phoenix reserve side is another way to gain coverage. would be good if there was a way around the rules preventing this.

As said on the radio. Shame the O-League game wasn't played at Eden park.
Seems someone somewhere doesn't like 2 matches played on the one ground.

Maybe it came down to cost. Having the ground open for longer etc. OFC probably didn't want to pay for that,or nzf.

City may have preferred the home advantage of Kiwitea plus there are strict rules about CUrtain Raisers for A-League games anyway.

not sure if you are taking the piss or what. Team Wgtn was started by a large group of club - this fell over cos it doesnt work. Pre Nix crowds went to watch for a bit of comedy - watching us lose 7-5/ Andy Hedge tripping over his fellow defenders.

I'm more saying it would be ideal. Why didn't it work?

I don't really see how it's not ideal to have a team that actually represents the region. Tegal2011-11-21 15:28:33

Note that the majority (5 of 7) of Otago United's games are being played in the new stadium, think I read they got close to 1000 there for the Waitak game (could be wrong but pretty sure it was near that). One game at Tahuna park and one at the Caledonian (at least it has a stand). So step in right direction in that regard.

Went to see Canty Utd play someone at Lancaster Park before a Phoenix match last year and even watched Canty Utd vs someone else before an All Whites match in QE2 ages ago.

It can be done!

Err... If I've seen Motherwell play a full game it would be about 24 years ago and I've probably never seen Chelsea play a game and yet I can say with a reasonable amount of confidence that Chelsea are the better team, although not worlds apart... But this is besides the point.

Let me use another UK hypothetical example to make my point:

Let's say you lived in Edinburgh and were a Hearts fan. Now imagine one Saturday, just after the Hearts game at Tyncastle, Blackburn (I use this example as they're currently 2nd bottom) decided to come to Murrayfield, the home of Scottish rugby, and play a game against Bollton. Now imagine that the Scottish media were all over this incredible event for football fans in Edinburgh, encouraging fathers to take their kids and suggesting that we should hang our heads in shame if we don't go along because then Blackburn will never come back again to deign us with their superior footballing presence. Imagine also, that this same Scottish media near enough ignored the Hearts Champions League match that was on the same day...

... Sounds ridiculous... And yet this is what happened on Saturday in Auckland.

Meanwhile, across in the wild west on Sunday, Fred Taylor saw the biggest crowd it's ever seen... Of Fijian away fans!!! And the island nations but not NZ got to watch the OCL games live on TV... Sort this shameful ignorance of the world game out NZ media.

This would be the Edinburgh that tried to organise an Edinburgh all stars to play LA Galaxy and Mr Posh Spice and also hosted the most successful Scottish world cup side against Honduras on a Saturday night and attracted huge* walk up crowds?

I would have thought that Blackburn coming back or not was a minor issue compared with if the city could host another international game.

Anyway - in the case of the Edinburgh knitting circle it really does show that your bitterness sustains you.

Ok still don't totally agree about your assumptions but...

What if the people that went to the Blackburn v Bolton game weren't Hearts supporters and supported Hibernian instead? would you still expect them to show for the Heart's game?

No, but I'd expect them to show for the Hibs Vs Bayern Munich game at Easter Road on Sunday instead of being out supported by about 10 to 1 by the Bayern fans.

I'm struggling to find any relevance in your post. I certainly didn't watch the all stars v LA game - it's meaningless to me. I did go to the AW's V Honduras and if I remember correctlt it was a decent crowd - still don't see your point though.

If it was directed at me please look at my member title although I don't think I was suggesting that, just in my own convoluted way saying all those Aucklanders that turned up to the Nix game may not support ACFC or have an interest in them. There was a reason for making that point, which I have now forgotten.

18k - struggling to get to "decent" on a Saturday. Compared with 16.5k on a Wednesday in Blackburn.

You keep banging on about Blackburn playing in Edinburgh. Whatever your beef - the EPL clearly has more interest than the SPL in Edinburgh. Rather than moan about it and feel all cess towards Blackburn, can you think of ways that you might make SPL more popular?

If not, then just accept the reality that the rest of Scotland are happy to watch EPL, while the Hearts supporters are quite special and discuss lots of different tartan patterns.

Hey man. Those imports are quality... The Premiership is a quality league. It resembles Scotland in that the top 2 run away with it while the rest contemplate their navels.
