I am not sure that I would take SigmUnd over Ivan  or Berlanga. I gave Greyhound a 'mulligan' on that one

and no Siggie despite the fact he was a stand out in the NZFC last time he was there for City

Wouldnt suit Auckland City style now of a passing game. He cant pass 5 yards and is a liability with his lack of pace and temperament. Back when Alan Jones played a tackling and long ball game he did ok.

Seems no matter what the topic is involving the Wellington Phoenix at the moment their fans seem very angry and frustrated. Is this because the fans are annoyed the owners cant and wont go out and get quality players? the fact they are frustrated at their own players? just seems a bit like Phoenix fans have had a enough off their own side at the moment.

Attending a world event (club world champs) (and doing well) definitely is doing more for NZ football. Playing in a poor A-league and avoiding wooden spoon most years is not, however i do agree that Phoenix have some importance and have helped Football in this country.

and before you cry about keeping it on football, best you stop trying to be the big man and showing how tough you are with your words. If you had a decent argument based on football, you would have stuck with it... guess you don't.

Exactly right terminator. Auckland fans think they have the better team. Phoenix fans also think they have the better team. The bickering is just useless.

Three options -
1) use this thread to discuss team news
but failing to do that:
2) delete the thread and I bet those who don't like the Nix will leave
or:
3) lets carry on with the bickering but change the thread name to something more suitable

To be fair Chris, I've put up more than a few fair and reasoned points for discussion with Phil after he had a whinge and he chose to ignore them. Everytime I've tried to put up reasoned discussion points, the knitters choose not to partake.

Don't take my word for it, go back and read for yourself.

The phoenix do a great job for nz football. Professional team with tv coverage, gives all NZ'ers something to support, young kids to look up to etc etc.

I can see why some people believe Auckland City do a better one. Exposure at CWC is massive. They have set national league bar at a new level. In terms of standard of play I haven't seen better domestically. A few imports have helped this. Young NZ players benefit and more young nz'ers get a shot at nzfc that the phoenix. Fact. However, to go further then the next step for these young players is the phoenix. The only problem with this path is that Ricky Herbet takes the best young players from the nzfc (1 or two in a few years) and sits them on the bench.

Vader, serious question. Are you really 49? The tone of your last few posts suggest you are closer to 16. I've never met a 49 year old that uses terms such as 'smack down' and 'pussy'. Grow up or jog on mate

This. I have constantly said the nzfc do the real work whereas the Phoenix are the show ponies who bring football to the media and the masses. Both do an important job.

I actually do think greyhound (not meaning to put words in your mouth so feel free to correct me) does realize this more than the others that come on here, and may even be a closet Phoenix supporter but just a bit afraid to admit it

This

To answer your serious question: I'm a straight talker. I may wear a shirt to work because its etiquette but that just in the office. I moved back to Auckland 12 months ago after spending 3 years in Wellington mainly because our son is down there with our first grand son (now 3). It is good to be back and because we were not really a fan of the Wellington city. My background in football was that I was just a park footballer but I gave it up when we had our son because to me, family is important. That might sound like a contrast with some of the comments I make but you never get a chance to do it over again with your family. I can always be an All White in my dreams. I started posting on here because its really the only place the football is talked in NZ. I tried the Melville forum but that was rubbish, the ECFC forum is basically thread upon thread of 'Phoenix sux Auckland rulz' and don't get me started on the piece of sh*t northern league forum. I generally find some opinions I disagree with an agree with and I have no bias or battles with any member save within this thread. Again, its mainly the knitters and their distorted view on 'football life in NZ'

If we are going to talk about language and talking like grown ups, again, check out the other posters on this thread... I'm happy to take a telling off but don't just be sitting there singling me out when others are just as guilty.

Now lets be honest. You've got a total of 3 posts. 2 directed at me and 1 bashing the Phoenix. Do you guys email each other and coordinate your sh*t or what? Comments like that really just throw your entire credibility out the window before you even start getting a post history.

In that order? HBU will be lucky to make top four let alone top 2. I do think TW ought to make the playoffs this year with the squad they have.

It was a hopeful prediction if anything Buffy. HBU did beat Waitak in pre-season. I know that never means anything but I want to see HBU do well.

Fair enough. A big win against Canty on the weekend proved they should be in with a shout at least. Then again who knows what Canty are really like just yet.

But then their coach walked...

I still think it's a bit early to tell how either of TW Canterbury or HBU will go this year.

This. I think you've got Waikato in the bottom spot, Manawatu in 7th and Otago in 6th. ECFC will be top and Waitak 2nd. Its the next places that will be interesting. I was surprised that Canty got spanked 3 by HBU especially with Peverley and Clapham in the middle of the field and that other chap that seems to be a bit of a goal scoring machine (ok it was Waikato)
TW I'm not sure of yet. I think they possibly need more time to gel which is probably a bit odd as most of them were in the U20s together. Imray right now (based on highlights) looks like the standout keeper of the league but the other 4 chasing him (Spoonley, Robbo, Gillespie and Borren) are not exactly chumps between the sticks. I feel like giving Mark Fulcher a hug because that poor bastard is in for a smashing this year and its not his fault.

TeeDubs have the next best as well in Basalaj.

Imray, Gleeson, Basalaj, McPeake, 2nd Best (ha ha ha ha)... that's a decent array of keepers all from Welly.

All good points.

Either way it looks like a decent race for 3rd and 4th this year. Even chuck Otago in as dark horses maybe.

(My word an actual football discussion has taken place in this thread)

Yeah agree on the bottom three and top two. The interesting thing with TW and HBU will be whether their young teams will be able to find consistency. I don't know a thing about the dragons other than their All White midfield.
