SM win and the later game between AFC II & SIU, effectively becomes a dead rubber.

Howler from Bula FC's keeper, charging out into no man's land.
SM lead 1-0.

Edit - Bula FC equalise! Hopefully they make a game of it.

Edit 2 - false hope. SM now up 3-1, late first half.

61 mins. SM lead 4-1. Form team in this comp now.

So AFC II to play SIU later today and then again in the semis.

SM likely to play the winner of Bula FC v Vanuatu U (playoff) in the other semi.

Edit - final score 4-2. Krishna a consolation goal.

Bit of rotation by AFC II. Less so by South Island U.
Eli Jones gets a game in goal for Auckland.

Both teams looking for a mental advantage given they will meet again next week in the semis.
SIU with more the barrier to overcome - 'can we beat Auckland'?

Even rotated, Auckland FC are dominating. Hard to see it not being them and SMFC in the final. Oh and there's 1-0.

Eden Park empty once again, and it's two NZ teams... why not somewhere like Kiwitea Street?

Tade the Olimpico and 1-0.

Yoo taps in on the rebound and it's 1-1!

Cringe announcement from the announcer... or perhaps more so that you can only hear him and the players and staff.

Turning into a goalfest here. SIU scored to go ahead. Game management non-existent though and Auckland already up 3-2
Permalink Permalink

Well that was frustrating. SIU had it for like 2 seconds before completely falling apart

AFC II too slick. Win comfortably 5-2.

From about the 2nd hub, it's sort of been clear who are the best two teams in this League, and they will likely both cakewalk their semis mid next week.

Still it's the inaugural season. Up to the Island teams especially to improve in 2027. Big ambition of the new comp is about lifting overall standards in OFC after all.

Shame that so many of matches are scheduled midweek. Doesn't help with the crowds.

Kings must win for them, to have any chance of edging Vanuatu U for the playoff game against Bula FC.
Le'ai on the pine.

Kings win 3-0. Lofthouse a double, other goal Bobby Leslie.
They go to 6 pts with +3 GD.

Vanuatu U (6 pts, +3 GD) who play Tahiti in the later game, now under pressure to at least secure a draw.

2-2 draw the Uniteds, Vanuatu and Tahiti.

TU with a few chances late to win it, and help out the Kings.

So Vanuatu U to play Bula FC in the playoff on Sunday. Winner of that a tough semi against Sth Melb as a reward.

Kiwis Otto Ingham & Owen Smith (Vanuatu) plus Fergus Gillion & Adam Supyk (Bula FC) all start.

Of the 4, Owen Smith perhaps the one the Nix might be having a look at.

VU get up 2-1 in ET. Didn't see the game, but actually drew something like a crowd it seems.
Helps that the weather was good, but also Mt Smart just a better ground than cavernous EP.
Dramatic finish in NT. VU with a player sent off late (2nd yellow). But score from a last ditch corner with GK Matt Acton up in the box. Then 10 man VU with a 2nd in ET.

A game that sums up Bulas season a bit - clearly one of the better Pacific teams in quality and style of play, but cannot turn it into consistent results. Well done Vanuatu, cracking result, now to take on a very daunting Hellas team...

As somoen else posted shame the final couldn't be scheduled on Saturday pre the ALM final at Mt Smart.
Much better crowd & atmosphere, than the few thousand who will turn up at EP on Sunday

Given Sth Melb will likely be too good for Vanuatu U, that AFC II vs SIU semi is very high stakes.

Here's hoping SIU can cause an upset. Big football week in the 09.

Auckland face South Island United in a semifinal at Go Media Stadium at 6.30pm on Wednesday night, after South Melbourne face Vanuatu United at 1.30pm, with the winners meeting in the final 3pm on Sunday at Eden Park.

There is prize money – not yet announced, but believe to be in the low six figures – up for grabs for the winner, unlike in A-League Men, as well as a place in the FIFA Intercontinental Cup, the annual tournament where continental champions play a series of knockout matches from September to December.

As an Australian team, South Melbourne can’t qualify for that tournament, just like how Auckland (and the Phoenix) can’t qualify for the Asian Champions League through A-League Men. If they advance on Wednesday, the Auckland-South Island semifinal will suddenly have plenty more at the stake.

The best performing team over the first three seasons of the Pro League will represent Oceania at the 2029 FIFA Club World Cup, as amateur club Auckland City did last year.

“It's a huge opportunity,” said Becker. “And it's exactly why we put a submission in to be part of the OFC Pro League right at the start, to have access to the two big FIFA global tournaments. [To qualify] would just be huge. We're really excited about that too.”

Good luck Vanuatu. Big underdogs.

Kiwis Smith & Ingham start for them. Other Kiwis Coveny & Singh on the pine for Sth Melb.

35 mins in & a Swibel double has SM 2-0 up. Though the 2nd almost more an Acton oggie.

Looks like yes AFC II verus SIU will decide OFC's FIFA Intercontinental Cup spot.

Make that 3-0 after some almost farcial VU defending.
It could get ugly now, if the Vanuatu guys drop their heads.

Ref takes pity on VU and doesn't send off one of their defenders after a two footed lunge.

Edit - 3-0 at HT.

Maybe Chiefy did have it right with OVH, when he can't even get a start at this level.

AFC II you think will just have too much class.  FIFA Intercontinental Cup spot up for grabs.

If Auckland FC win today and therefore qualify to the Intercontinental Cup - the (likely) mid September trip to Saudi Arabia to play Al-Ahli will probably fit in quite well for their pre-season schedule with no Australia Cup this year

At this rate South are gonna be facing Auckland more often than we do. 4 encounters in one season, and with the same win rate as us! Honestly the Nix vs SIU might have the most stakes in these NZ derbies - battle to not be the worst pro club in the nation lol

62 mins & still 0-0.

SIU came with a plan to park the bus, and try use Feutz to hold up the ball and create some quick transistion opportunties. To date it's working.

Auckland having to work for that FIFA payday.

Auckland FC finally get their goal through Isa Prins

My FIFA + connection ain't working no more.

From Stuff.
Auckland sustain the pressure and work it to the left, where Zoricich swings in a teasing delivery that picks out Prins in the area. He rises superbly and thumps a brilliant header into the bottom-left corner, leaving Van Dijk with no chance. South Island will have to come out and chase this now!

Full time Auckland FC win it 1-0

And with it qualify for a trip to Saudi Arabia to play Al-Alhi in the Intercontinental Cup

Sth. Melbourne vs Auckland II grand final, who coulda seen that coming?

Good effort from South though. Was always gonna be a tough game and they didn't give Auckland many chances to work with. Hopefully next year Christchurch will be one of the hubs and they can finally play in front of a home crowd

Great header from Prins. He was struggling at this level earlier hubs, but last few weeks he's been much better.

Big final on Sunday will be a quality A League audition for a number of AFC II's players. Sth Melbourne a very solid, tough NPL side. You stand out in match like Sunday's you are worthy of consideration for the next level up.
