They could hardly do any worse than last year.
Although for what its worth the results of their club sides doen't inspire onfidence.
Are Jeremy Wild and Darren Overton playing for them again?

Does anyone know anywhere in Dunedin that will show the Bahrain game next sunday morning?

I asked at Terrace bar and they said that unless around 100 people came in it wouldn't be worth their while.

Herd Malcy's  keen to have it common knowledge what's he's supposedly earning thinking it'll filter through the grapevine to his ex.  Word on the street is it's alot more than that but he's not keen on fronting up, great skills!

Good on all the guys for turning up and putting the effort in. Its probably a good thing to get a decent mix of clubs involved (even if so far is prodominantly cavy) in order to make our league more even. I just hope that all the players don't leave their current clubs and follow the coach as has happened in previous years.

Totally agree Colsie - reckon there should be some restrictions on being both the OU Coach and a club coach - wasn't there talk of this at some stage??

Why would players go to green isalnd with malcom fleming? that would be a bit strange given that they finshed 6th in the league this year...i feel malc fleming will be well out of his depth in the national league this year. any thoughts? I believe if you are the otago coach then you would have had to coach one of the big 3 (Roslyn, tech and cavey) teams 1st? and had success at one of these clubs.

I believe players followed Mike Fridge to Tech... and fair enough if they liked his coaching style. Everyone can make their own decisions but i feel that it just increased that gap between Tech- cavy and the rest... it may have helped on a chatham cup basis and a top four split basis but you can't have your thrid and fourth placed teams (Mosgiel and Roslyn) being beaten 6 nil week in and week out.

I agree but who is to say he will be coaching Green island next year..?

I agree with your second comment as well but if they are not interested then where do you go.. outside Otago is the only other option, but then how could those coaches pick a squad having not seen players throughout the whole season. Somewhere (be it assistant or manager level) there has to be someone with local knowledge.

just adding....

Even if they aren't the best players they are all keen to learn and the experiance will be invaluable to their clubs when the return in 2010.

Scoullar, Mckenzie, Coburn (who had turned out for mosgiel in 2007) and a few of the younger guys ... am I wrong ??

All i can see is that after the 2007-8 OU season Tech got considerably strong with 3/4 of their starting eleven being OU players.colsi9912009-10-08 15:22:47

Ok...players might not follow malc but my point is that what previously happened was not good for Otago Football

Scoullar, Mackenzie, Coburn and some young players went to tech following the 2007-8 OU season.... am i wrong?colsi9912009-10-08 15:23:07

Yes, you are totally wrong, Scoullar & Coburn signed for Tech midway through the 2007 season Fridge started coaching at Otago Utd after that season. Coburn never played for Mosgiel in 2007.
Mckenzie playing for Otago? don't think that happened either

Younger guys? you'll have to tell me who they were....

I'l look into it.. but i know for a fact that Coburn played one game for Mosgiel after being injured for a long period of time, the game was in Timaru.

My apologies on the Scoular Mackenzie comment... I realise Fridge signed MacKenzie through his contacts and not OU.

Ok, so Coburn, Scoullar & Mackenzie didn't follow Mike Fridge from Otago to Tech... still trying to figure out the players you're referring to in the "what previously happened" comment

Perry I can still not work out whether you are an advocate of tech or cavy.... or both  I tend to agree with you though. I dont see why players would want to follow mike fridge to tech, i presume players went there because either a)they like to play at culling park and enjoy the pies at culling cafe or b)there were some good players at tech (2006/2007) and the likes of scollour, coburn, flaws and probably others (who had spent time at tech in the past) thought it sensible to play for the club and try help deliver some silverware. I highly doubt mike fridge being there was a draw factor for many players althought he did come from the UK with a reasonable pedigree.

Perry Groves is Justin  Flaws .So one of my old Soccer Otasgo friends told me. Is that correct.I just hope after all the rubbish thats been posted on here. That young Malcolm comes up with a good squad and the team is competitive. We all want OU to do well, even if we dont agree with whats going on behind the scenes.

uni network screwing me over thats what...

Yeah he definately should be ... he will next season (his mrs is keeping him in Timaz though)..

Yeah training a I don't really care about the money, coaching, gear, travel or any of that sh*t.. im just training for the sake of being able to train with some decent players (for once)

Antz might be following Tel next year (because he's the only one still contacting him) so lets hope thats not true Cavy don't need any more class strikers.

Dead right !!!!

and from the amount of effort going in at trainings I think the fact that the team has been written off completely has definately fired some players up..

You guys up north should come back down for a season (or if not just to bask in the immense Dunedin heat haha)
