Looks like a Dragons B team to me .
Can't believe there are only 6 Mainland players in there!

I'll go for a 3-5-2, Coburn to come in later on, haven't seen Dan Ede but he can start up front as he must be better than James Reichwien!

"It will be harder for the Christchurch guys to get in because I'll see the Dunedin guys more often. But that is why I'll be relying on our Christchurch coach to give me information."

Fleming declined to say who would be coaching the players in Christchurch.

Smoke and mirrors. Shall I make enquiries?

Looks like it. Sounds like he was responsible for recruiting the other Mainland players as well. Must be on a bonus to dill up the flat on Friday/Saturday, maybe he doesn't have to pay travel costs.

maybe canterbury are also putting in an early claim for the wooden spoon

is the real reason these guys are not playing for the dragons as the article says...

Going to be interesting, quite a bit of player movement going on in all sides. Coupled with limited preparation its going to be difficult to spot the wooden spooners early on this time around. The Dragons will be a lot more competitive than last season under Braithwaite and the players lining up for Otago from here are certainly no better than the players the dragons have already signed apart from Kelly maybe.
In the Press article on Glen collins this morning he said that he had taken a full part in pre-season training so far, but that's only been 3 weeks. Straight from Sumner Rugby club, will be interesting to see how he goes at 33 and not having kicked a ball for 3 years, well a round one anyway.

that the Dragons only entrered 2 weeks before the deadline after earlier pulling out?

Nah. The majority of these guys (apart from Kelly) weren't in the frame. The pick of them is young Faichnie who has experience and ability at this level but was a benchwarmer for Woolston Tech for most of the season, only getting regular starts later on. Ede is an unknown at this level and Reichwein has not been playing well enough.

Played mid field/up front for Cashmere Wanderers in ChCh Div 1 this season. Played average for most of the year. Not wanted by the Dragons this season, I think you will soon find out why.
Sounds like Ede is still training with the Dragons anyway, you may have missed out on a good striker there.

Otago United Squad 2008/09

Goalkeepers: Liam Little  (Caversham) and Callum Flaws (Green Island)

Defenders: Tim Horner, Rhys Henderson and Michael Smith (Caversham),), Tristan Prattley  and Blair Scoullar (Dunedin Technical), Colin Falvey (Mosgiel),

Midfielders: Robbie Deeley and Seamus Ryder (Caversham), Morgan Day and Regan Coldicott (Mosgiel), Tom Connor (Roslyn-Wakari), Stu Kelly (Burnside), Andy Coburn (Dunedin Technical), Barry Gardiner (Southland Spirit), Stu Kelly (Burnside)

Strikers: Dave Dugdale and Tom Jackson (Caversham), Aaron Burgess (Dunedin Tech), Sean Brand (Roslyn-Wakari)

Played: 14 Won: 2 Drew: 2 Lost: 10 For: 16 Against: 32 Points: 8

Otago United Squad 2009/10

Goalkeepers: James Waggitt (Caversham) and Brian Brown (Burnside).

Defenders: Tim Horner, Rhys Henderson and Chris Jenkinson (Caversham), David Shaw (Roslyn-Wakari), Tristan Prattley (Dunedin Technical), Tom Sadd (Cashmere).

Midfielders: Robbie Deeley (Caversham), Morgan Day (Mosgiel), Tom Connor (Roslyn-Wakari), Stu Kelly (Burnside), Andy Coburn (Dunedin Technical), Ryan Faichnie (Woolston Technical).

Strikers: Dave Dugdale (Caversham), Dan Ede (Burnside), James Reichwien (Cashmere).

Also joining the squad will be Under 19 Dunedin Technical team players James Watson and Michael Still.

Comparing 2008/09 Squad to 2009/10 Squad

Goalkeepers: Liam little being a NZ U- 23 player is certainly a huge loss.  Waggitt has been untested this year, but certainly looks very vulnerableWho knows what Brown is like.

Defenders: The loss of Falvey, Scoullar and Smith was the heart of Otago defence last year. They did concede 32 goals but with the new replacements being Shaw, Sadd and Jenkinson I can certainly see them reaching the half century this year.  Shaw and Jenkinson havnt completed 5 passes between them this year in the SPL and both turn like the queen mary, Good luck against Jordan, Krishna etc

Midfield: The midfield has had little change in personal. The loss of Ryder, Gardiner and Coldicott has done minimal damage to the squad. The inclusion of Faichnie is a bonus and is the only improvement from last years squad.  However all the players in the midfield have as much creativity as Mike Fridges haircut.

Strikers: This is a massive problem for Frost tips Fleming. The loss of the two main strikers Burgess and Jackson leaves a gaping hole in the squad. Two journeymen winter club strikers from Canterbury are going to have big fat donuts in the scoring column come the end of the season.

Things dont look good for Otago United this year; they are struggling in all departments of the field. No one to score them at one end and no one to stop them at the other end of the field

Predicted outcome: Played: 14 Won: 1 Drew: 3 Lost: 10 For: 9 Against: 50 Points: 6

Final Position: 8th

have not seen so many players ripped into in one post. Fair enough you are having an opinion, its easy to hide behind an alias and critisize players. I think otago will do better than canty.

Alias or no alias opinions are what this forum is all about.

Some pretty fair assesments and 8th is a possiblity if things turn to custard.
But I think Otago could sneak into 7th and maybe even 6th. Potentially Kelly, Coburn and Deely have the makings ofa very good midfield and there is always the hope that a Canterbury and Hawkes Bay will be rubbish.

NZ soccer do you know what you are talking about??Scoullar didn't play one game in Otago's back four last year?I think Jenkins in is a great replacement for Falvey who also missed a fair chunk of Otago's season last year through injury and suspension i'd go as far to say they have made a profit there. With jenkins horner henderson prattley shaw and the chch guy and smith? I think if they sort it out they will be able to hold there own at the back a bit better this year than last

p.s. NZsoccer your rant was sh*te
