A handful on Caversham players, few Tech lads, One from Roslyn, couple from Mosgiel? That's if people want to play?

From my discussions with Football South , there wont be any further investment for imports , its going to be local lads and anyone who wants to play for free , basically I think they will be running it until it goes back to the clubs in a few years,

You're going to start a guy up top that has struggled to score a goal against Caversham or Mosgiel up top by himself?? O'Farrell over Ridden? At least get Jackson up top and Mclellan on the wing. Jude Fitz at Centre back, Connor RB.

Any national league team would rip this team apart. They need about 8 decent imports to be competitive

According to Scotty Rd on the Canterbury forum, Tom may be heading north for ASB which will be a big loss

Exactly. I hardly think Goalkeeper is our biggest concern, lots of depth, & some talented youngsters. Out of the usual suspects I would probably pick whoever the best communicator is.

They are close - even the ASB/OCL stats show that:

Tom: played 68, conceded 142 (2.1 per game), clean sheets 13 (0.19 per game)

Liam: played 57, conceded 115 (2.0 per game), clean sheets 11 (0.19 per game)

They have their strengths and weakness: shot stopping, distribution, defensive organisation/vocal presence, strength at set piece time - these are the key factors for keepers.

I would go with Liam. He's more of a nut job - the keeper x-factor.  Ask ZG about that.

I could make a better team by simply shuffling the names you've mentioned. In any case there are better players and combinations than the 11 you've put out.

Girth it wouldn't be hard but it would still be a matter of opinion - and yours is respected.  But most followers of SU would opinion that Tommy can't play in central midfield AT NATIONAL LEAGUE LEVEL.  Yes, I'm shouting because although your pick is a decent FSPL XI - it's a different business putting a side out in the National League.  And thats why you can't have Hogan at CB or Ferg either I doubt with his age now.  Eder and Harley, sure good choices - let's hope Eder stays in the south.  They will bring in a striker and another CB to pair with Jude. Ross and Ridds have good quality and potential but need sorting out.  Ross to defend first and hare up the line if it's ever on - and Ridds to get his passing percentages up and not to give the ball away so cheaply.

Agree with you about it being a matter of opinion and I think what you've said has a lot of merit, unlike Kennedy who has just slagged the team off whilst providing no better alternative. Now I've seen Tom have some good games and bad games this year but every time he's gone up against Mosgiel, Eder and Tom have gone toe to toe and probably come out even. If Eder is the best midfielder we have then why not have the only other person whose gone up against him and competed well. I don't think Michael Hogan is CB NL quality however Jude has some Issues too, can we trust him to keep his head for 90?

Look one off match ups man-on-man in single games mean nothing to me.  Look at the qualities of the player- the physical, mental and technical attributes. Eder - he can make the ball talk.  He has vision and he can pass a ball better than anyone in Dunedin - long or short he can do it.  And his energy is high.  He is a dream midfielder in the hole.  Tommy has fight and good balance and pace.  But vision and passing quality? No my friend.  Tommy is a stopper and a scrapper - fundamentally a defender with great physical attributes - yes he has the ability to go forward also.  But he's a natural RB or defensive RM/RW.  Can he hit a diagonal or a decent ball at distance?  Not that I've seen.  This is what he needs to work on.  Jude and 90min? Not sure what you mean.  His disciplinary record is good - he scores more goals than gets cards,  And if you ask anyone that has trained with him about his physical fitness - well you would hear he's at the top end.

Ball Talk? This must be a piss take. Mate if you got of Eder's d*ck and watched one of his games against a descent team then you would realize you've lost it. Yes he is perhaps technically the best player in the league, but what about when the going gets tough? The guy can't find a hole big enough for him to hide in the last game i saw against Caversham, dragged after 60 minutes when he had to run backwards and never had the ball in any space. 1/2 goals in the last two years against the top two teams is a poor return for a guy that can make the ball talk. You can't say he hasn't got the backup out there with FCB up top.

Against a descent team?  Who would that be then?  Perhaps, "Coming Down from Mt Cook Rangers'?  But look even great players struggle in teams that are getting beaten up - Eder's quality is there to see and that's why you'll find he'll get picked up by another NL side.

You've lost it there. Cam McPhail has probably been Mosgiels best over the season, hasn't put a foot wrong in any of the games I've watched

Support is all well in good but when they jump in between the sticks, in defence and up front it's a little desperate. In any case, it's only Fletcher Cup at the end of the day and I was more interested to see a Dunedin side progress in the Chatham Cup.

Sour grapes. Apart from Liam, who had to play because thier GK got injured last week, everybody in that side had already played multiple games of Fletcher Cup this season. Pick the bottom lip up and stop making excuses.

No sour grapes here Lee; as indicated I can't imagine Caversham are all too worried - it's Fletcher cup after all. Bigger fish to fry . Fantastic Mosgiel have found something to grasp to however.
