A good win for GI no doubt but to be fair to Tech it sounds like they were missing alot of firepower at the weekend. Probably a good result for the league in general (as was Mosgiel's draw). All of the top 5 will be fancying themselves at this point....

who?

Joy/Lockhart/Da Costa/Burgess/Smith/that kid who plays right back

Lockhart and Smith played, Da Costa is out for the majority of the season, so is Burgess. Ross and Matt didn't play but that wouldn't have changed much of the game imo.

the information i received today was Lockhart & Smith did indeed play, Smith only 15-20mins (injured) & they were missing Rickerby & that lad who played against us (who was a handful up front).

Melchester Rovers vs. Roslyn Wakiri AFC
Waihopai AFC vs. Grants Braes AFC
Old Boys AFC vs. Mosgiel AFC

that's a pretty boring draw, Mosgiel with Northern this week then a trip to invers & a home game v queenstown, good chance to get on a bit of a roll

Funny seeing all these new kids coming on and trying to spark some shit chat! Leave the shit chat at the door when you  leave for school and come home with some actual chat. Gi played well to get there win against Tech. T.Mcormack was class I thought, but tech were missing a huge amount of firepower. Cavy will be a good test this weekend. I cant see gi being top for long, someones got to take them down. Chatham cup draw is out, that may interupt some league perfomances but we will see....

A little bit rich coming from someone with only a handful of SPL games under his belt. Settle down with the chat and just focus on making that Tech 2nds squad each week.

So I hear from a wee birdie that mosgiels regan coldicott is being scouted by the Melbourne heart . Wouldn't surprise me ,when he wants to play he can play. Pace to burn, skillful, scores goals just not the best looking..

Roost your quick to judge. I'm no SPL player but it's a forum and anybody can have their say. Don't take it personally its just banter. Give it well, take it well. Plus you have no idea who he is. Could be Burgy for all you know.

Nah it's not Aaron - Aaron is IMO, well IMO he's IMO. And on the subject of IMO he's been a bit quiet lately - but quite unwell I'm told. Best wishes and get well soon Aaron.

And this Southern thread on this forum is a good value, and well respected around NZ.  The fact that in recent times we've had a few GI wannbees strutting their stuff is great.  It must have been dreadful being the laughing stock of all and sundry for the past how many years?  Let them have their day in the sun, it might not last long.

Now my predictions are as follows (I sense an upset somewhere this weekend, and the weather forecast is rain):

Mosgiel 1 Northern 2 (that's the upset based on previous years, but perhaps not so much this year)

Roslyn 2 University 1

Green Island 5 Grants Braes 0 (see I'm a believer)

Caversham 1 Dunedin Tech 1 (but only if Matt Joy is back)

Old Boys 2 Queenstown 1

I think we still are the laughing stock of Dunedin football Natpevin, unfortunately its for a different reason now :(

Picks for the weekend:

Mosgiel 3 Northern 1

Roslyn 1 University 1

Green Island 4 Grants Braes 0

Caversham 1 Dunedin Tech 1

Old Boys 5 Queenstown 1

It is slightly rich when the RW supporters spout on about the lesser lights. The constant flow of players from the so called lesser teams to RW keeps them in the position of third best team. There are at least three this year and maybe more.

The respect levels for FootballSouth in this region are pretty low so naming the national league side after them ain't gunna help boost the profile of the sport here.

(Ok you've got a bite here Dino....)

Yeah....and what?? You make that sound like a bad thing?

We arent the only club in town, but we are currently seen as an attractive club to play for, particularly amongst the younger players coming through the ranks

1) we give them a chance to impress

2) we are competitive and have high aspirations each year

3) we have a good coach that is highly respected and has patience particularly with young players

2) we have a great team spirit and socialise together off the field

I dont think Roslyn needs to apologise for that...

Also re: melo & the goalkeeper, they approached roslyn not the other way around, both top blokes. Day, mansford and attwood are all good players that have mates at Roslyn. Some trained at multiple clubs pre season and had various coaches in their ear, but chose to play for Roslyn.

The club should be stoked they are creating a positive environment that their players enjoy. Next up the goal is to turn enjoyment into resuts - starting this weekend against Varsity....

GIDDY UP!!

And as for spouting on about lesser lights - that sort of banter is encouraged and is pretty much what this page is all about, we are up to our 310th page of crap and long may it continue.....where is Aubrey Fallops when you need him...

Pfft whatever, there are always people maoning about so called big clubs 'poaching' players.

Most of the time its the players that initiate a move, normally because they aren't happy; and if a player is asked and moves - they probably weren't happy. Get over it.

The irony is, in my experience, the clubs that moan about it most probably try to do the most recruitng, they just have less success.

I for one am thrilled we managed to get such players in - by foul means or fair I couldn't give a rat's aarse!  I can't recall when we last had such an influx of quality and quantity.  Cavy have been doing that off and on for years - look at who they brought in last year due the Otago Utd connection - that was scandalous, and Tech have pulled some decent players in as well.  It's a sign the Mighty Horse are on the rise.  And this is why I don't mind all the GI chit chat malarky either - it's great to have a couple of other clubs challenging after pretty much nine years of Cavy dominance.

Very good replies.. would have hoped for some humility, but you have to be pragmatic and move on.

Wish the you all the best for the big weekend of celebration..
