Oh. some half-arsed conspiracy theory blaming the Phoenix I expect.

Went along to see Waitakere yesterday. sh*t crowd. Wonder why?

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

My guess would be that this is the first time the NZFC has been covered in any major way by 442.

Wonder if that would have happened pre-Phoenix?

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Aidan Ormond from 442, an excellent football journalist, has kept his eye on the NZFC from afar since the competition commenced...

Also...

I visited Auckland City FC last month while doing a story on the Knights for FourFourTwo Australia magazine. ACFC have a superb little ground (Kiwitea St)that attracted about 1000 fans for their match with one of the bottom sides in the amateur NZFC; about the same number that turned up for the Knights the following day against Roar.

Auckland have a strong squad of players, including two-time Bafana Bafana Keryn Jordan and former Kingz defender Riki Van Steeden.Riki currently works as a producer for SKY Sports!

It's a brilliant little club that puts the Knights to shame in a number of areas.

And NZ$1.6 million is not bad for a club that has an annual salary budget of around $100,000

A 2-0 loss to Al Ahly was no disgrace.

Aidan Ormond

(FourFourTwo Australia magazine current issue has my full report on the internecine state of Kiwi football)

You're right we were rubbish on saturday
but remind me again again how many NZFC titles Team Wellington has won?

Not at all just curious as to why one of the best attend sides in the NZFC in the previous 4 years
suddenly loses over 1000 spectators

Actually, for the first time you are right on this.  Part of the crowd problem on Saturday was due to the Phoenix.

The problem wasn't the Phoenix stealing supporters long term though, it had more to do with a game being scheduled the night after a Phoenix game, and more importantly a Phoenix win.  If the number of hangovers there was an indication of the rest of Wellington's football public, it's lucky anyone was there.  The crowd vs Waitakere (the only other home game) was much more respectable.

Team Wellington have always played on a Sunday which doesn't help awareness, and the other part is the same problem the whole league has in that nobody knows it's on.

It's odd as last year Yellow Fever TW's seemed to play at home when the Phoenix were away and vice versa.  Made it tricky to get to Yellow Fever TW's away games, but at least home games weren't a problem.

There was plenty of room for both teams last season and with some common sense in the NZFC draw there is no reason they can't both thrive and survive now, but when there is a Sunday in January where Yellow Fever TW play at Newtown at 15:00 and the Phoenix play at 17:00 at the Stadium ?

Just Stupid.

Surely the TW vs YHM match will be moved to an earlier start time so that football nuts can attend both matches on a Super Football Sundae!!!!!!! If not I'll be seriously p*ssed off as that would have been one of the few Phoenix games I would have got to attend this season but I'll be supporting YoungHeart instead.

Whereas this year, they schedule TW's away matches against our two nearest matches on the same day as local Phoenix matches

(I say "local" because Waitakere, albeit in our franchise area, isn't our home...last time I checked the Ring of Fire didn't have wheels )

I commented on this in the Team Wellington thread when the draw came out.

If you choose to play when your supporters are also playing sport or working than they will be unable to attend the game. Simple really.

The management of TW (at the time) told us all in the first two seasons that either Friday or Saturday evenings were the best time to play and they were correct, they got good crowds.

How bad were Team Wgtn today? That is the worst they have played since the Mick Waitt days. Need to make some changes quick before the rot sets in.
