I've had this debate with a mar mate and we pretty much agreed to disagree. DF is good if you like to stand on the eastern side, close to the pitch - for me thats the only real advantage at davey f. The banks at newtown are good in theory but they're too steep to sit on. Agree if there was suitable seating it would be ideal. Smithy if you're cold in the stands you haven't had enough beers.

Fuck this stupid game

Sounds like Imray having a shocker. Would be a big upset to start the season

Final 2-2.  Second half Team Wellington camped in the Otago half but couldn't finish.

MOM for me and Jr was Otago goalie.very very good , all that stood at time between his team and a hiding.
Otago goals NOT Imray's fault. Other than pick balls out of net twice , had very little to do.
Key change for us- no 8 TW on at half time ( White?).Showed an attitude and a hunger that was lacking at times in the first half.  Good skill mix , quite quick.
As above , Aussie looked OK but rest of attack iffy.
Eager- seemed a bit off his game , some good interpassing but also some passes sent spraying.Looked a bit pissed off he was subbed.
Musa on for a wee while in second half , actually looked quite composed .
Second half>>>> first for TW. Should really have won and would have a fair result.  But fair play to Otago , down to 10 men and hung tough for a draw.

Oh , ref was shocking. Got little help from lino's but still , a blind cock is a blind cock. He hasn't got any better from last year.

Not sure what game you were at.  Otago were the better side in first half.  Organised at the back.  Too fast and too much passion in the middle of the park.  TW were in disarray at times and I lost count of how many times they simply passed ther ball away.  Second half TW were by far the better side - and yes it was White who made a big difference.  The boy Fenton was very good also - strange he came off.  TW had chances to put the game to bed...but in my opinion they in no way deserved to win - they will have a very average season unless they can find some fight and spirit.

Agree completely. Midfield for Otago dominant in first half.

Should still have won though. And would have if they had a sharper cutting edge up front.Otago will be happier with draw than TW , I would think. They did lose their shape in second half .
Did like way Otago regrouped afer they were down to 10 men.

Pretty much this.

Thought ref did okay actually. Don't know how anyone could come away calling him a blind c0ck. He was alright.

TW created more than enough chances in the second half to win it, and will be disappointed I'm sure.

Entertaining game though, good advertisement for the league.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Quite enjoyed the write-up of the game today until I came to the closing comment:
"From your commentary team here at Farrington Field we wish you a good afternoon and good luck to the NZ sides playing in various Mickey Mouse competitions this evening."
Whoever wrote this needs to give himself/herself an uppercut.   Why do some football people like to think that their game is the only game in the world and the rest of us have no right to watch, support, or be involved, or get enjoyment, from other sport.
I for one have watched the netball and will watch the rugby tonight because I am a Kiwi and bloody proud of it.
The narrow-mindedness of some people absolutely p#@sses me off.
Will go and take my medication (Steinlager)

Does sound like a bit of a giggle Graeme.

Just seen the wrap-up story of the NZF matches in stuff. Has a pic of Otago-TW. I think the TW strip is a cunning marketing ploy to make us Aussies want to go to TW games.

It just might work!

tbh Graeme it was aimed at the Phoenix and the Netball as well.  I was being an equal opportunity wind-up merchant.

I'll skip the uppercut though, might stop me watching the final.

Funny , I thought he was shocking , as did the people i was sitting with.Missed several hand balls and blatant shirt tugging.Only once in the first half did I think he got a hand ball right; Otago player on the ground , arm raised.Ball hit his arm , pretty clear , but absolutely not intentional. No call made-right decision. Heard the Otago coach query it with 4th official who did see the hand ball but also thought it was right to not give .
He was consistent though  , missed things on both sides. I can't imagine either team will be happy with him.
Maybe I still remember him from last last year( ?Waitakere) and ," blind cock" was a bit harsh but I still think he was poor today.

I thought he was okay. The only real contention would be those handballs. I thought one of them (forget which) would have been interpreted as deliberate by most refs but the incidents were judgement calls that are hard to fairly criticise and were ball to hand.

PS I did chuckle when he told off the Otago 21 - "shut up, you're being quite annoying." Classic.

So what is the story with Dakota Lucas? The rumours about Waitak not releasing him seem to be true?

For anyone who's interested, the Team Wellington Youth team have their first game at home this Saturday (29th) at David Farrington Park. KO 1pm I think.. (Can anyone confirm this time?) Come and watch the boys kick off the ASB Youth League for 2011/2012.

Yes the Youth Team game kicks off at 1pm.
Permalink Permalink
over 14 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
The more confusing kick-off confirmation requirement is for 13 Nov.

NZFC site says the youth play YHM on 13 Nov at DF at 1pm. (http://www.nzfc.co.nz/index.php?id=14)
NZFC site says the seniors play away in Canterbury on 13 Nov at 2pm in round 4 at the same time as playing Waikato at DF at 2pm in round 3. (http://www.nzfc.co.nz/index.php?id=1485)

TW site says seniors play Waikato at DF at 2pm on 13 Nov (http://www.tw.org.nz/index.php?page=fixtures).

So it seems, TW seniors and youth are playing on the same pitch at the same time and/or TW seniors are playing two matches at the same time in different cities!

Thanks for the highlights.

Weird game, for large parts Otago looked the better side but couldn't finish whereas Welly had all the luck in the world with defelctions and everything finding the net.

Otago goalkeeper was pants!!

I was hoping to the see the next marco or Kosta... but no one shone bar maybe the LB for Welly who looked good on a couple overlapping  runs.

Wellington gave City a scare today with two goals to square it up at one stage but then let in two cheap/sloppy goals near the end. Tried to play a bit which was good to see.

Think Waitakere are happy they let go of Dakota Lucas...awful player and should have been subbed earlier. Spent his game time trying to kick players. the boy who came on offered alot more.

Imray top keeper.
