No sure Calcott likes Biss - Been on the bench alot for a man with an A-League cap..

Im sure if Biss played for Mar he'd get a starting spot.

Players don't have anything good to say about him

Is that the old players who are threatened by him? Very highly rated by Gouldy. I would say a lot of potential but still a lot to learn.

Nothing to do with feeling threatened

Well at least it's good to know there's a good team environment.

From the games I have watched TW looked miles better with wiremu and dazza in the middle. the young guys biss and bertsch? looked out of their depth

To use the current terminology on this forum - Biss is honking.

So the Phoenix/TW tie up has pretty much been another disaster.  Add that to the pile of things to fix...

Normo's coming home

Probably quite hard to perform when all the old cunts in your team don't back you. Biss was very good for HBU which was probably a better environment for him. Are there any better young midfielders around the ASBP?

I had doubts about the link with TeeDubs, always thought they should be a seperate/second side out of Wellington in the event of these sort of issues (actually think they need to be playing in the Aus NYL to be of as much use as possible but that is another argument).  Outside that though not all the players have been a disaster.

Rowe, Doyle, Basalaj, Gulley have all looked decent at times.  Bertsch for me shows promise.  Solomons, Biss, and Watson the jury is out on.

How's my driving? - Whine here

Probably devided by the 'furniture' being unhappy about the new objectives of TW ie giving game time to the young Nix talent. Kind of fair enough I guess if that is the case but little wonder they are losing. TW to opt out next year?

Seen Gulley torn to bits by ASBP players as a RB. Would pick Watson to go further.

Chettleburgh.

True I've always rated him. Had his chance though didn't he?

Cam Lindsay was signed sight unseen instead.

think it will go the other way - more of a Nix takeover

Playing well for TeeDubs.

Gulley hasn't been playing right back, he's been wide right.

Interesting maybe because of his weaknesses in defense. Haven't seen him at wide right yet but interesting idea. Would like to get to more of these games, been busy with work this season. Also DF Park is less than ideal. Newtown f'd atm apparently.

In fairness though, its the same with 'youth schemes' the world over. Some will work out and some wont. News has named 5 of the 8 that look 'ok'. That would be about the success rate I would expect to be honest.

The concept was never going to work when you only get to work with the whole squad once a week, and even then you don't always get the same NIx youth players to utilise. How are you supposed to build combinations and get fluidity into the game plan if you are not all training together 3-4 times a week. It may work in the winter, but not in the National league.

Why , when the coach isn't? Just curious.

Permalink Permalink
about 13 years ago · edited about 13 years ago · History

There are at least 3 players travelling from Wellington and 1 from Wairarapa. The co coach is also from Wellington.

Permalink Permalink
about 13 years ago · edited about 13 years ago · History

Well that will never happen... Manawatu need a few of the Phoenix boys - Calcott doesnt want them and the Nix are offering them false hope..

So do the Nix disgard the players from the Acadamy after this year? whats the process?

Maybe the problem is not with the players, but the coach!

May be the same old problems arising if you not from "Mar" your on the out. Seems alot of players have had a problem with him!!!

Calcott's not an easy guy to play under, but he's a very good coach and his track record is too.

The reality is, he lost a lot of good young players last season, and those who've replaced them are nowhere near as good.

Imray signs on but does he start?

What is Adam McGeorge doing? ? Unless he is injured, I'm guessing that his glaring weaknesses can not be hidden in the TW set up?

Baby-sitting for Louis Corrales

"At the end of the drive the lawmen arrive...

I'll take my chance because luck is on my side or something...

Her name is Rio, she don't need to understand...

Oh Rio, Rio, hear them shout across the land..."

Good win for TeeDubs over Canty, Corrales scored on his return and also Woody Patrick for a 2-0 win.

Anyone know why Rowe didn't play?

Permalink Permalink

Yer good win indeed, outplayed Canty often.  Dodgy penalty I have to say, but a well deserved win.  Canty had chances too mind.

Rowe was injured in last Saturday's game so not cleared to play today.

Great win good signing Calcott TW needed a striker and Corrales made the difference!

Looks like Smithy has a hater, hilarious stuff.... never knew #guysmithisacunt would become a hashtag! Seems like Waikato deserved more out of the game but still a nice bounceback, that late goal crucial for TW if they want to make the playoffs, I'm not ruling it out.

A draw may been a bit fairer- Funny sort of game though. Corrales is bloody lucky that he didn't get a straight red for the punch.

Lots of energy , game played at a frantic pace but , geez , it would have been nice to see someone just put their foot on the ball and play measured , passing football. I guess though with the tackles flying in , discretion was the better part of valor. Unfortunately , ref was average today but didn't influence result too much( although  having said that , if he had sent Corrales off then TW would have down to 10 for about an hour ; so may be he did ,as as you were).
