HT 1 nil to Auckland -Spoonley adjudged to have taken down Brown in the penalty area.

Poor start to 2nd half see's TW down 3 -0 at 53' but a fight back to 3-2 at 83' then almost gets them a draw in the last 5'.
But FT Result stays 3-2 to ACFC.

Full credit to TW for their fightback to 2-3. I must admit the final few minutes were nervy when TW threw everything at us. In truth City should have been 4 or 5 up by 70 minutes, but playing such a high tempo attacking game took its toll on players after the Xmas break. We also missed Ivan Vicelich at the back. Thanks for a great game TW, should have been on TV.

Good to see Hamish Watson hanging in there flying the flag for Wellington players.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Hamish Watson is surely not the only player from Wellington in the squad?! Are all the rest outsiders?

Isn't the reserve goalie from Olympic/ Petone? Plus Justin Gulley...Auckland City in disguise

He was the only former Wellington junior that played I think. Dan Clarke (RGK) is a Wellington kid. So is Justin Gulley but I'm not sure he got on?

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Surely with 8/9 teams in the Central League there's plenty to choose from? Strange decision to buy a squad and try and gel them so quickly. Such a short season.

Most people who would care enough about Phoenix A to go and watch them play would already be a season member, I would expect.

So you are going to turn up pre 2 pm to watch the 4.30 youth game and not expect to pay?

Our do you think Phoenix A should be playing the TW youth league team Wednesday night ?

Heartland v TW Youth was gold coin donation to get into the ground.

sorry, just realised they were 3 games in a row, not 3 separate events

but do they charge for youth games normally?

Last year no charge for the TW youth games - awaiting a decision at the moment on this year.

I believe each (club)  sorry franchise has this year been asked to provide a meal after each youth game for the away team, the same as with the senior games.

My thought is the youth game may go to a gold coin donation to cover this extra expense.

EDIT (I'm only the BBQ boy)

Sausage and bacon this weekend?

to be honest, i don't have an opinion on it, i was interested

in regards to asb prem games, i'm not sure how i feel.  the game needs money, but sometimes i wonder if charging at the gate is a bit short sighted when you consider that increased engagement can bring a lot more revenue long term.

I largely agree with this, I think $5 is a charge which would bring more people through the gates while also giving a modicum of revenue back to the club. If you sell things on site, then part of the money can be made back through that, as well as the long term benefits as you point out.
When I see clubs charging $15 or more for entry, while I'd still stump up if I had to pay, I'm positive that it'd drive your average family away.

I do not know the figure but I believe their is a large entry fee - which is not pokie funded (I Think)

There is, which is why I believe you should still charge at the gate for the product, but there are other ways to go about getting money flowing through the clubs, without turning away fans with too high gate prices.

absolutely agree

there's an outdated marketing theory that waitak and maybe others seems to be getting a little carried away with - the theory being if you put a price on it, it implies that the product has value

here's a wee example of what charging nothing can do...

i took my kids to the phoenix training session in kapiti last week.  it was free, we could all go for nothing.  the kids loved it; they got to meet the players.  my 5 year old is now begging for a phoenix shirt (i got him germany for christmas...) and my 2 boys now want to watch them on telly and even my wife sat down to watch the last game.  we will all be going to the next game.  the phoenix now have 4 out of my family of 5 fully engaged and spending money.  the 5th doesn't get a say because she's 2, she's engaged without choice...

From today's Doom Post

Adults $10 - Senior/concession $5 Children under 15 Free

TW has been $10 for at least 4 years.  This year the Nix deal came in free entry for Nix season ticket holder showing their pass.

Very fair price IMO

personally, i'd happily pay more

but you want the non-passionate there as well

(althpugh just quietly, i'd want to be sure that my $10plus went towards keeping the likes of shaun gill on board, not paying for cole's travel, but that's another story)

i'm delighted to see that you understand the concept.  sausages, bar and then post event engagement, although this would require that the franchise has a product to engage with post event and this isn't the case for most asb prem franchises.

Good game by Team Wellington. They had the better of the game and seem to control the ball better.

Referee wasn't that great and lost control of the game I feel. A lot of yellow cards in first half that I thought someone would have got a red by end of the game.

2nd goal by Cole Peverley was a stunner too. Free kick and over/around the wall into top right corner.

Team Welly win 3-1

That referee was terrible. Ended being quite a scrappy game. Deserved win for Teedubs.
