BBQ REVIEW

After last weeks disappointing lack of BBQ at the WeeNix game at Newtown Park, I was most excited about this weeks TeeDubs game.

I was not disappointed.  A new man behind the BBQ and I originally thought I was going to be let down.  I asked for 5 sausages (not all for me) and he said the ones he was cooking weren't quite ready but if I gave him 8 minutes they'd be ready.  He also offered to wave out when they were ready.  I was skeptical about this turn of events but accepted my fate.

Aside from the slight tardiness, he was true to his word and waved out when they were cooked.

Unlike a lot of other football related BBQ's he was even saucing the sausages for us.  The form was sensational.  Generous saucing and none on the serviette.  It's unheard of.  Mad props to that man.

I did venture back for a second helping though and this time round I had to sauce my own.  It was upsetting to say the least.  Not because I'm above doing things for myself but because I couldn't live up to his form.

If anyone sees Domey, let him know he should head along to Davey F next TW home game to learn some tips - namely how to set up a BBQ.

On the actual game front TW looked much better than Waitak.  3-1 did not flatter them.  Played well across the park James Musa probably MoM appearing everywhere including two goals, one a cracker.

None of the drama and petulance seen last week with the only row being between two TeeDubs players Barcia and Hobbs and the co-captains quickly stepped in.

Waitak however not quite as good.  Matt Conger for the second game running at Davey F seems to be unfamiliar with the rules around dissent as the Waitakere players told him where to go a number of times.

Few hearty tackles by tw too. Beautiful day but I wad surprised how poor waitak were

Yeah.  The actual tackles weren't ideal but both teams dived in and were (mostly) officiated well.  It's the 90 minutes 90 fudge offs I can do without in a game that now has TV coverage.

Indications are that the wheels may have entirely fallen off Waitak.

Or, being West Auckland, have perhaps been stolen and Waitak left up on blocks.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Team Wellington were lucky to scrape by a toothless Southern United. Lack of direction and leadership.

I thought Team Welly looked pretty good (compared to previous seasons) ... but just needed to play a bit quicker at the back, and smarter up front (change things up - don't always run away form the ball!!).  Barcia and the middies played well.  I don't think the keeper played out from the back once?!  Though I heard this was at the direction of the coach ...

Speaking of ... re facing the Weenix next weekend:
"They're big brother and all of that stuff. We want to be competitive and our boys go out and work 50-hours a week and train three-nights a week and they get [paid] about a dollar a week, while the Phoenix lads are well looked after."

... other than a handful of paid players ... I'm pretty sure most of the Weenix lads actually pay to be part of the setup... and we all know Team Wellington players get paid a bit more than a dollar...

An amusing comment if nothing else :)

Wasn't it a 4-1 win...? Hardly scraping by, even if they were 1-0 down.

Villa was good.  Best I have seen from him for TeeDubs.  Was surprised he was the one pulled out of midfield to add another attacker.

Wellington Phoenix have 1 x A-league team 1 x ASB Premiership team 1 x ASB youth Team and in combination with Wgtn United 1 x Central League team - To the best of my knowledge.

Well if that's the case the Phoenix youth side must be made up of 12 year olds because the team that played HBU at the weekend were kids and thats the reason they choked on a 4 zip lead.

Your posts suggest a lengthy career in coaching and/or management under yr belt. Correct?

Then if you were watching the game you would have figured out that the team with the wind behind them in each half was the team that dominated.

1st half - Phoenix with the wind, score 4. 2nd half - HBU with the wind, score 5

You are more than a bit clueless

Well actually you were the one who said that the WeeNix was a team made up of 12 years old so I guess you are the clueless. You are new here, right? Don't you remember those "kids" beating Auckland City 3-1 last season? I agree with the poor defending but the WeeNix have proved to be competitive

Their strength chops and changes depending on how many players are clled up the first team squad.  With a full first team or a home game you would have 3 or so from the wider squad.

The younger players will get better the more they play.

I said the youth side must be made up of 12 year olds not the reserve side because that was a young side that played  HBU and no I'm not bitter and because I'm new' I've got to ask the big boys if I can play. precious very petty men can't wait

That was certainly the case last year iirc. Got better as season went on.

yeah though there is obviously a turnover of players at some point. Not sure when that occurs but it is probably toward end of winter and beginning of ASBP season? Am sure Someone will know

True they beat Auckland City 3-1 last season, they also lost the return game 7-0. The only problem with the weenix is the team they put out depends on where the 1st team is playing, but they are a reserve side so it's always going to be that way.
