Also done a bit of a review of Bruce Holloway's brilliant anthology of 20 years worth of Waikato football programme columns.Enzo Giordani2012-02-06 20:03:45
Hi ASUS,
Ha ha. Boy, sure swept away some of my anger management issues to see you step up and take over responsibility for the efforts to spread the negativity virus around the Waikato. So take a bow.
I must admit, I was getting worried there after a few weeks of good results, credible performances and praise that seemed to be coming from all over the place that Declan was actually doing a bloody good job in developing young players and rebuilding a Waikato team.
Like you, I was secretly delighted to see Waikato lose at home against Wellington and over the moon when they got tanked 4-0 by Waitakere United last week.
Like you, I would absolutely hate to think other franchises have been impressed to see Waikato fielding a team of young homegrown talent developing as technically proficient players with a deep understanding of the game. Cant have that. Not in our own backyard, anyway.
And I would certainly hate to think that his 16, 17, 18 and 19 year olds would still be playing in two years time. Yes, surely they will have retired by then.
So, overall, your posting has perked me up so much I checked back on some of your other offerings here.
They were a revelation. I simply LOVE the fact you want to see Dan Looker in the Waikato squad on the basis his volleyball background means he can jump real high. That is priceless and should really annoy Declan Edge. He has somehow overlooked talent like that? The media should be onto that. It had me gagging. Excellent.
And a really top effort to point out Declans kids 15 & 16 at the time - lost to the Waikato U19s in 2010. Lets throw that in his face. That will really sting him. Yes! Gotcha, Declan! You are a proven failure and MUST GO!
Any YOU were the first well, the only one, really - to point out that every other franchise was treating the White Ribbon Cup as a joke. While most people here were fooled by looking at the actual team lineups that weekend, you instantly cutting through that by, well, simply by knowing and assuming, I guess. (Lucky me and you are not answerable to the same need to justify and substantiate our football views as Declan is.)?
And you really really had me cheering with your assertion that BOP should have a team in the national league. That really stuck it to all those Doubting Thomases who are hung up about the fact the region cant even manage to get a single club into the northern premier league. Like you, I far prefer prejudice over facts.
Well, ASUS, lets me and you really ramp up discussion here, and mouth off some more to undermine things, shall we? I am sure you will agree with me, there is no law against ignorance, is there?
Anyway, LOVE your work. You are a treasure. Wish there were more like you in the BOP.
Grumpy old bastard alert
You make alot of assumptions about those who comment that the people at the top always make

Firstly you assume anyone and everyone who has a bad word to say or isn't a yes man is a hater.
i find that most people who express their feelings about Waikato FC do so because they are passionate about football in the region, many freely give their time and money to the betterment of football even before the 'unbeaten' (dont get me started on what of think of that!) run in south africa.
we've had to toil though the 'new car' regime in the beginning to the sith driven management style where the need to control and make a penny or two from the regions most wealthy areas was key to the current regime of no acountability and unprofessional and unsuitable people in key postions.
i for one would love to give my free time to a well run, organised and successful region but sadley that will not be the case for a while yet! so i'll just carry on as per normal and keep my fingers crossed
oh and calling Declan the Devil incarnate is a touch harsh and i hope he has changed from the 'my boys could play for Barcalona' stage (by which he meant at that moment, not some time in the distant future)
so i typed a bit, said less not really made much sense . . . seem familiar
PS on a serious note i congratulate you on the correctness in you use and knowledge of english. somethong sadly lacking in most people (even sadder, me included)

I can hear Declan Edge's half time talk from 50m away. He is furious. Sounds like furniture being kicked in the dressing room.
I let my guitar speak for me
It was a waste for the first half sticking our most creative player on the wing, things improved when Hicks moved in to the middle, but poor defending really lost us the game, the goals were just too simple.

Do you think Danyon is good enough humbug?
Fuck this stupid game
As for the Wanderers guys, I just think they couldn't be stuffed training 5 times a week under Declan
Do you think Danyon is good enough humbug?
He's okay, barks at the players, suits kiwi style and acts as sweeper, suits the current coach. My point was "Fulcher has a blinder against Ak, dropped the following week for the new club signing".
From most accounts Tommy was the form keeper during the N/L winter league and played well in games I saw.
Good keeper prospect in area is a youngster named Towers, goes to school though

Hahaha brilliant article!! The fact that Declan tries to take the footballing high ground makes it even more hilarious. What were County back then, Div 3? And he's still voted the worst ahead of these " 2 pass and shoot" players...says it all really...

I am no fan of Declan's, mostly for his ridiculous self comparisons with Brisbane Roar, Barcelona and now Bilbao BUT this stupid abuse of him as the worst signing for Notts County is quite pathetic!
1. He was signed as a pro, how many of you 'haters' can say the same?
2. Being a good or bad player has little impact on coaching ability, simply look at Bryan Robson (excellent player, terrible coach) or Jose Mourinho (very average player, excellent coach)
Would Bryan Robson really be classified as a "terrible" coach? Two cup finals, two promotions, in charge of West Brom's miraculous survival a few seasons back. He's been a mixed bag sure, but terrible? How does that record compare to people like Christian Gross,Steve Bruce etc, who in my mind really are "terrible"?
Anyway, I seriously doubt that Robson did very much "coaching", as opposed to "managing". The two aren't necessarily the same.
As for playing fair, face to face with opposition coach at the end of the game????
And attractive football," keeping it at the back for 2-3 min then losing patience and launching it long" does not sound that attractive..
Poor season!
Fancy that, Dan Looker on for Harry Edge...
With all due respect!!!!!!
Dan Looker in a team that Tom Crawford can't make. They'll be rolling hysterically on the sunny side of the Kaimai's
Orlando although Waikato had most of the ball, was it good quality ball? or did they keep it in there half?
