Ted, the problem with your argument is that you assume that the NZ media would report on the NZFC if the Phoenix, Knights, Kingz etc werent around and that Sony would sponsor Team Wellington and all would be right with the football world in NZ. But thats not how the game works. There is a reason why Sony havent been involved with football previously, why there are no TV cameras at NZFC games and why the national softball league isnt on TV - quality. Its exactly the same as why Leo Bertos hasnt played in NZ since he was 16. Its taken the introduction o a more professionally packaged, professionally marketed and professionally run competition in NZ to get those benefits. The media dont have a requirement to report on anything and in fact at the dominion post a new run was created solely for the Phoenix, not at the expense of any local football at all.

While Waitakere and Auckland City have already qualified to play the 2008-09 O-League, the format of that competition has yet to be confirmed but Nicholas is hopeful after meetings in Noumea on June 1 he will have a clearer picture.
"We must again decide how many New Zealand teams will be involved; what role the Phoenix will play; and where and when matches will be scheduled," said Nicholas. "It could be the two New Zealand teams might play in different groups next time which would help spread interest."
So, the OFC are clearly still concerned about Oceania representation at the Club World Cup (no pressure Waitakere!) and the Phoenix are clearly still in the O-League picture, with some more news possibly after June 1.
