If allez is french for go, could we replace it for the Maori word to give it more meaning here?

Hanatu?

Hmmm, three syllables... needs work.

Substitute it with Welly maybe? Dunno if it would fit in but thought Welly, Welly, Wellington might sound good.

You might be right about the RBB using it tho

Perhaps. Conext matters in maori so not sure the translation is that easy. Will chat to a few people to see what an appropriate word is. Might be something like 'lets go' or 'lets win'.

Um..

"Ka Haere, Haere Tatou!" would work ..

meaning ..  "Lets Go!"(all of Us)

I prefer "So cool for the Phoenix tonight" as more of a link to cold in the desert tonight, and Albert is cool... but I am not going to die in a ditch over it.

A small portion of people would actually know the original song

I also endorse the "So cool for the Phoenix tonight" upgrade.

Sweet, I like the tune and easy to keep chanting.

So we are looking at something like

Ka Haere, Haere Tatou (English "Lets Go!"(all of Us))

Ka Haere, Haere Tatou

We're Phoenix FC
Ernie's Yellow army...

If we can get that going, I think it will be a seminal moment in New Zealand sports history.

The only real problem is a lot of people wont know how to pronounce it, let alone sing it in the tune required. I think it will fall flat to be honest. Most of the players wont understand it and neither would any listening audience...if they could hear it. We can give it a go but i am not dure it will catch on.

On reflection, as much as I'd like us to get some Maori in there, it's probably going to be very difficult.

Welly, Welly, Welly oh

Welly, Welly, Welly oh
We're Phoenix FC
Ernie's Yellow Army...

Simple. Should catch on easily. Well, you'd hope.

Good point on the pronunciation Gunman, probably better to cut our losses and go with Welly.

Its a good idea but needs lots of practice before we unleashed such a song as it would sound weird and some might laugh.

Just wondering if it should be:

"We're the Phoenix FC" to add an extra syllable?  The original is 'We're Ev-er-ton FC'.

Sounds a bit more correct in my mind (in saying that I'm a toffee so I've had that chant going around my head for the past year).

Too hard imho.

Yeah, I think it might be a bit too complicated at this stage.  Perhaps though if we find the 'basic' version takes off then we could look at adding onto it .  There may be a few like me who aren't overly familiar with the tune so it might take a bit of time to bed in.

Pointing out that a small portion of people would actually know the original therefore quabbling over the odd word won't be major. It's one of the first songs I actually remember - so unless you are a 40+ kiwi you probably wont

First time (chant) poster. Apologies if it's been done to death, or before,or too close to a CCM chant; but how about this:

THE BEATLES. WE ALL LIVE IN A YELLOW SUBMARINE

We all live in a Yellow Stripey tee, Yellow Stripey tee, Yellow Stripey tee. We all live in a Yellow Stripey tee, Yellow Stripey tee, Yellow Stripey tee.

And we live a life of ease. Everyone of us has all we need. Sky of blue. And see of green. In our Yellow Stripey tee.

We all live in a Yellow Stripey tee, Yellow Stripey tee, Yellow Stripey tee. We all live in a Yellow Stripey tee, Yellow Stripey tee, Yellow Stripey tee.

It's a winner Phil. Well done.

Might have to brief Mossy that he's only allowed single syllable coloured jerseys from now on. Purple and Crimson are just not acceptable for this chant.
