Gutted we didn't hold on there.

Three for me, and two for them.

So close and yet so far - another brain fart moment draws a red card and puts us under so much pressure!

Such a scrappy goal to concede after all that quality defending!

Heroic performance and we'd all have taken a point before hand. But it's the inevitability of it in that second half that makes it hurt so much more. I expected them to take the first goal away from us too for not "delaying" the restart enough.

Hell of a performance in the 2nd half to defend for so long. Absolutely gutting to concede so late - Almost feels like a loss because of how late that was, but I would've taken a point at half time knowing we had to do the next 45 with 10 men - just feels so cruel to not get the 3pts after defending so well all 2nd half

All things considered, I’m really pleased with the way that we’ve navigated that tough early burst of fixtures with the suspensions and injuries we’ve had. Looking forward to seeing a very rotated team play tomorrow night against Bolton!
26 Sep 07:26
Rotated team indeed - several debuts but none more impressive for me than the 16 year old in goal! Maybe he could have done better for the goal, but given he was left 1:1 with a player like that I'm not surprised in the outcome. Great to see plenty of goals, and from the bits I saw didn't look too bothered. Sterling looked excellent, his runs in behind are next level, and we kept using that to unlock their backline. Jorginho with a few beautifully dinked balls in for him to run onto.

Preston away for the next round, they're bottom of the championship at the moment but I hope we put out a more senior squad than last night. Would like to see us go deeper in tournaments this year, this squad needs to start collecting trophies asap to reward the quality there.
26 Sep 23:29
Absolutely. There's no reason we can't have a run in the cups as well as go for the league and CL like 115 and Liverpool always do. And these players need a trophy. Preston in the next round, and two of Spurs, 115, Chelsea, Newcastle will be out, plus Liverpool away at Brighton. With a bit more luck in the draw than recent years I don't see why a semi final at least can't be targeted. Same with the FA Cup which we've won more than anyone else.

Enjoyed the game yesterday. Nice mix of youngsters and more experienced players. Nwaneri and Lewis-Skelly look exciting in particular. Made it more enjoyable than recent seasons when we'd wheel out the likes of Elneny and Cedric for their annual start.

A goal and an assist for Martinelli should hopefully kick start his season. He certainly caused Leicester a bunch of problems in that first half. It was frustrating to let Leicester back in - but their 2nd goal was quite something.

Not ideal gaving to win it so late - but it shows a never give up attitude which is always important when challenging for the title and especially great to get the 3pts considering Man City drew to Newcastle.

I don’t want to jump to conclusions after only one full game with Rodri injured, but he was incredible for them last year and hopefully they continue to struggle to put games to bed in future.

Early days but I think goal difference could be an important factor at the business end of the season. Only one goal between them so hopefully the boys can keep it up.

I'm interested to hear the explanantion for the non-yellow card for kicking the ball away at the end of the first half. We've had two players receive their second yellow for simialr incidents and when the boot is on the other foot suddently the refs are lenient?

From the Referee Rule Book:

Is the player wearing an Arsenal shirt?
- If Yes = yellow card
- If No = Ignore/pretend you did not see

Yup, there were a few of these moments I spotted over the weekend. What I did enjoy is that our players didn't seem to be trying to force the issue, unlike other teams who have with us.

That was very comfortable.

Missed the game but was it comfortable? The possession looked very lopsided.

2-0 says comfortable, but the stats say otherwise.
35 % possession, 6 shots, 5 on target compared to PSG with 10 shots but 2 on target. PSG were wasteful!

Interesting case of stats not representing the game at all really.
We were completely dominant, and we let them have the ball in the 2nd half, basically.
Our press was frankly absurd, PSG had no way out for the first 45 minutes, no where to turn. It was a masterclass from our side, they moved in complete unison.
I am getting pretty excited about Timber on the right and Calafiori on the left. Those two look like pretty amazing players, skills in all facets of the games, and positionally very flexible.
Our back four is a beast of a unit with them in it. Love Ben White but I wonder if he's going to be on the outer now, Timber definitely has more about his game.
Both Timber and Calafiori have real midfielder abilities, how Arteta likes them at fullback. They can both play like Zinchenko that way, but both are defensively better and faster than him too.

Good win, PSG never really pushed us at all - they had a couple of.opportunitoes but nothing significant.

I felt Martinelli was looking confident and creative today which is great to see, his goal and assist on the weekend may have gotten his spark back back.

Really like Havertz's goal, great movement and bravery to head that with an oncoming Donnarumma

It's good to see Merino get some minutes tonight as well, hopefully he can get some more against Southampton this weekend so we can really start settling him in to the squad
02 Oct 00:28
Merino looks like a bit of a unit aye
I love that we have a big strong team, physically imposing, the invincibles were like that. Lining up next to them in the tunnel used to be half the victory, its getting that way with this team now.
02 Oct 00:31
Partey has been functional this season but I wonder if the injuries have got to him.
He looked a better player in his first two seasons, between the injuries. Now he kinda just does a job. Looks to me like Merino has been signed to come in and take his spot.
Is this our strongest lineup when fit?
                     Raya
Timber Saliba Gabriel Calafiori
               Rice Merino
       Saka Odegaard Martinelli
                  Havertz
I would probably go with Trossard on the left but I get the feeling that Arteta sees that as Martinelli's role for the long term. I do wonder if Trossard might get frustrated by the end of this season and want out, if Martinelli stays fit.

If thats the case then White, Tomiyasu and Zinchenko will be very much on the outer. All of them a decent enough and only Tomiyasu really offers the adaptability that Arteta might want - chances could be slim given the propensity not to change the back four unless forced to.

I think Trossard is very much in the bigger plans for Arteta, end of last season he was pushing Martinelli to the bench, it could be a very interesting battle for the left wing starting spot - hopefully they are both up for it.

I love Timber, but his time on the right coincides with White and Odegaard being injured. I think when those two return the chemistry on the right between them and Saka will overcome any minor upgrades Timber might have on White when comparing 1:1. Timbers going to be the new Tomiyasu for me, first substitute for any of our back 4, which will mean he'll likely clock up plenty of minutes for us. I also wonder if we'll see Saliba or Gabriel off to Madrid in the summer for crazy money, which further opens the door for Timber.

4 points out of 6 in the CL. Assuming we win our three games left at home (Shakhtar, Monaco, GNK Dinamo), then I think two wins away from home should ensure we finish top 8 (Inter, Sporting, Girona).

Think you're right about Timber. I'd had for either Saliba or Gabriel to go mid season, end of this season I'd be more comfdortable with biut I'd prefer not to sell either at least for the several seasons. they could easily become the most legendary CB pairing in EPL history!

Well that was a game! Pleased we won it but it was far from easy. They were awful, bar that one piece of decent play that lead to the goal. Partey is not a RB, he did ok but we lacked something on the right side today. With White and Timber injured we need Tomi to get back to playing more minutes. We dominated all the stats just couldnt get that one goal in the fist half, after they had scored and the subs came on we looked different. Arteta may have to be more cautious about resting certain players - as necessary as it may have been.
Subs made all the difference! Jesus worked hard but doesnt seem to have the ability to shoot any more. I dont ming Jorginho, but he cannot be in the starting midfield, Odegaard cannot come back too soon!
With Liverpool stealing a win against Palace we sit second equal with City (the two unbeaten teams).

Relief more than anything. Even this early a loss at home to the bottom team would feel fatal when you know 115 FC are winning that game 6-0. Just no goal threat with Sterling and Jesus both in the front line but thankfully the depth in quality to come on and get it done.

It was frustrating to dominate that 1st half so comprehensively but not be able to get a goal. At one point late in the the 1st (and may have been true still at the end of the half) despite our dominance Southampton had taken the only shot on goal!

The good thing about this team though is that despite going down a goal, I had complete faith that we would score - something I wouldn't have been confident about a few years back.

I'm continually impressed with Havertz, he does a lot of work and gets crucial goals when we need them.

And its good to see Martinelli now with 2 goals in 2 Premier League games after such a long drought

about 35 mins in we had taken 11 shots 0 on goal and they had made 2 shots with 1 on goal.

Seeing you guys are the most active: a huge number of goals scored over night. 24 in 7 games. And mentally there were 24 different goal scorers.

06 Oct 06:34
That is a wild stat.
I have an amazing ability to find my way out of mazes. I'm pathological.

7 assists in the league this season for Saka. Out of this world.

Mad to think some people still don't rate him.

Three for me, and two for them.

06 Oct 07:41
It's just the lazy Arsenal are bottlers narrative and he had a penalty saved so he's a loser to those who don't watch him every week.
Wouldn't be surprised if he racks up more numbers this season than Foden, Yamal etc, all the fashionable names people say are better.  Just overtaken Pires in league assists for us too which seems unbelievable.
07 Oct 07:56
The difference for me between Saka, Foden, and Palmer is Starboy puts up the numbers both for us and in an England shirt. The other two are great talents, scoring for fun in their sides, but they just haven't been able to do it on the world stage like Saka has.
07 Oct 07:56
Best moment from the weekend was the Brighton come back against the Sp*ds. I'm wondering if Ange might go before ETH at this rate...total chaos from our rivals which I'm loving.
07 Oct 09:30
The penny dropped for Ange last season when he saw their entire fanbase actively support the team they were playing against just to spite their rivals, even though Spurs themselves had champions league qualification on the line.

He did have a pop at them tbf, rightly so as well. He’s too good for Spurs is Ange. A club rotten to the core with failure and losers.

Three for me, and two for them.

Saka injured for England, FFS! Kill these midseason breaks, have a winter break and finish season early. Play a mini-tournament each summer if needed.
11 Oct 20:27
Hope it's not too serious, Saka and Odegaard out will be an issue!

Bit of a random one but if anyone would like a shirt but isn't wanting to spend $180, Kmart suddenly have an official licensed one for $22. Normal cotton type t shirt material. They also have shorts (black weirdly). Also have Man City and Spurs randomly.
