was really good to see the front 3 all grab a goal on the weekend, and not to mention ramires getting his first for the club. cant really see us getting back into contention for the title unless there is some major form turnaround from man utd and arsenal, so for now im hopeful of a good fa cup run and hopefully a good run in europe.

cant bear the thought of us finishing below man city so heres hoping we are back onto winning ways and can get ahead of city

got everton this weekend in the cup. we have been showing a bit more consistency so im reasonably confident we can get a result here but not holding my breath. will be interesting to see the teams selection with a game on tuesday vs sunderland to think about. would like to see sturridge get a start and im thinking kalou may also be given the nod

not that excited about playing everton again but by all accounts it was a good fightback so will take the result, good to see kalou show he can be a game changer.

sunderland tonight, i want payback.

sturridge to bolton on loan is an interesting move, with torres coming in and drogba, anelka, malouda and kalou up front it seems a good idea to let him go off and play premier league football at a good attacking team like coyle's bolton. with the age of anelka and drogba though im sure he has a bright future at the bridge once they have retired or left.

Champions Europa League side Chelsea report 70.9m loss

Europa League side Chelsea has reported a 70.9m loss in the year to June 2010 - despite winning the Premier League and FA Cup.

The west London club said turnover was up 1.2% to 205.8m and that a reduced squad value was behind the loss.

From 2012, clubs will be banned from European competitions if they go into debt on football-related business.

Europa League side Chelsea chief executive Ron Gourlay said the club was in "a strong position" to meet the rules, known as Uefa's financial fair play initiatives.

The club's overall loss was greater than the 44.4m seen the previous season but some way short of the record 140m loss announced by Europa League side Chelsea in 2004/2005.

The club's operating loss - the amount by which costs such as player transfers and wages exceeded revenues - reduced from 72.3m to 68.6m.

"The reduction in operating losses and increased sales in 2009-10 shows that we are moving in the right direction, especially when viewed against the difficult macroeconomic environment," Mr Gourlay said.

The club looked set to stretch its finances further on Monday, as it prepared to break the British transfer record to buy Perennial strugglers Liverpool striker Fernando Torres for up to 50m.

Wait till the Russian gets bored and wants/needs all of his money back. Over 700 Million  that he has interest free loaned the club. - Or the Russian govt want it/confiscate it.

Is there some contractual thing wherein he will get the money back, just like a loan?  I always assumed he bought the club, put in the money and hoped he'd eventually make a profit but didn't think it was like a loan.  Anyone enlighten me?

It's a loan. That way he hasn't really spent his but the clubs. It was interest free from the word go. I'd say it was to be used as an investment and part of his portfolio. If the Russian turns up tomorrow and says "I'm off, give me my money", Europa League side Chelsea would need to be taken over by someone rich or fold and Stamford Bridge turned into retirement flats.

Ok, I get ya.  Are most clubs done on that basis or is it really case by case?  The Phoenix, for example, aren't like that are they?

The Nix are not, Terry has poured in a fair bit of his own cash.

Europa League side Chelsea are like a lot of clubs and their super rich owners these days., If the yanks left United, they'd close them down overnight unless someone bought the club. Their debts are tied to the club.

Even at QPR, what money that has been spent was not that of the 2 billionaires that own us. They have loaned the money out against the ground.

Can't. Wait. Even though I think Torres will score against us (especially if Carra plays) and we'll probs lose. But for us, its just great to be excited about football again- with all the sh*t thats gone on!

f**k that was hard to watch. im sure im guna get a bit of stick from the livrpool fans and rightly so. with man utd losing we really needed to win that to have any shot at the title.

i thought we deserved at least a draw, 2 penalty shouts, the 2nd being a decent one but oh well, you cant get them all.

the formation really didn't work. drogba and torres with anelka behind them. we play best with drogba in the middle and anelka and malouda out either side of him. doesn't work well with torres cos with him there you have 2 target men who need to be in the middle. something for carlo to think about im sure.

cech really should have come forward and claimed the cross that lead to the goal, and bosingwa could have done a bit more, was caught ball watching a bit.

ivanovic had 3 good chances to head at goal and missed all three which was disappointing for him cos hes usually a handy header of the ball. kalou could have done better with a couple of headers as well.

on a positive note i thought david luiz looked really good the second he came on, very quick, especially on the turn which is what we need in defence.

Agree re: Drogba up front on his own. Its the same with Torres too. Gonna be a funny one. Not really convinced with either penalty shout (Lucas handball and GJ shoulder charge?) buit you defo dominated us, especially for large periods of the second half. Still- our game plan worked well. Cech and Ivanovic had that mis-up in the first half too- foreshadowing much?

Nah, Downey, I won't give you stick, you're sound. Mr ChopperHarris, however...

yes the bust up between cech and ivanovic was regrettable. felt cech was in the right though but weather he called or not i dont know. good thing mikel was there to pull ivanovic away. no biggy though, that happens

Thought the commentators were interesting on this - one guy kept crapping on what a 'wonderful' ball from Gerrard it was, and neither really criticised Cech for his indecision.

In reality, it was a fairly hopeful ball to the near post that should have been collected by the keeper who wasn't sh*t-scared to come out and take a bit of contact (guess Cech's history had something to do with it) without much problem. Wonder if we'd have heard the same 'analysis' if the players involved weren't Gerrard and Cech.
