Coliseum Sports - EPL Overlords

They just tweeted me the same thing. I replied saying that their live chat etc told me they'd be available for a week, and the 250 available for the season.

Not as happy anymore. Still an improvement on sky, but nowhere near as good as I'd been led to believe.

PLP must be wondering what they have bought. When the top 6 teams are available via regular medium, who wants to fork out extra for it?

I hear the toilet flushing

Tim Martin addressed this in his speech at the launch party last week. He is actually thankful that Sky have done this, as he was worried that the Premier League would disappear from peoples minds completely as it is no longer on Sky. This way, the delayed coverage will remind people that the Premier League is happening, and that there is only one place to watch live Premier League coverage (legally).

Were you there?

no, were you?  I wish you would you clear this up as I am not sure and it is infuriating not knowing.

The "yeah, ok" gif was more for the "they are really happy that all these games are also being shown on Sky and other formats" comment, than debating if they said it or not.

Edit - I see Dougie Rydal has already covered the point about Patrick being at the launch.

It's not quite the same saying big team games are available essentially 'on demand' through Sky. When I watch delayed it's in the morning when I get up. If I want to stick to that routine I've got no choice but to get PLP. Games won't be on Sky until the arvo, and could be late in the day or even the following day if there's a lot of live sport on, and they've got 4 games to show.

Re: Dougie's comment "if they can't pick up the rabid ManU arsenal fan etc, then they'll battle"

I completely agree - but I don't think that's happening. I'm a 'rabid' arsenal fan and I've bought it.

The Sky announcements would definitely have put a dent in PLP subscriptions though - it's not the rabid fan they'll lose, it's the slightly less than rabid fan. I guess they have to weigh up if it's been worth the financial gain from sky over subscription losses.

Very concerned about the on-demand misinformation. 24 hours is not a long time if that's true.

I have no problem with the concept at all as others have said, I just think its too early in our environment here in NZ which is where my problem is. In 5 years time, yeah maybe but the time is not now. The US have embraced it but they have a fibre backbone and more than 1 pay tv provider. Also they have a mass population we do not. 5 years ago, we did not have smart phones and tablets. What will we have in 5 years time?

Again, there is an Ethernet port in the back of the sky decoder and if Sky were smart, they would seriously think about enabling this and get moving with it.

essentially if like most kiwis, you support a top 6 team ie chelsea, arsenal, man u or man c, you'll get to see every game they play. Sure it'll be delayed but then most of these type of viewers probably used mysky to view the games anyway. For me no great loss, and certainly no compulsion to even consider the online option.

To be fair they did clarify it twice for you. No issue with watching the games only once if you get the highlights platinum package. I'll probably watch the highlights show instead of full games other than Newcastle

Since the start they've said 250 on demand. Should always trust what it says on the site, not a support crew in another country

PLP's big selling points now are really just:

- you can watch all the games live (nobody else can offer this, except for dodgy streams)

- you can watch replays of most of the games whenever you like (although anyone with MySky or a T-Box will  be able to do this for a lot of games now)

Is that enough?

When you say people with MySky/T-Boxes will be able to watch some replays, presumably you just mean from Sky's coverage?

Yes. Which partly offsets what is otherwise a good selling point for PLP - watch the games when you like, as many times as you like.

Fucking quotes on this place.  Let's clear this up:

* CSM are really happy that Sky and Sommet are still showing the games from the big 6 clubs.

* Patrick has only mentioned when he went to the launch for CSM when he has needed to provide a source for his information.

4 games a week I struggled to find time to watch 2 a week last season, so does me fine

Auckland will rise once more

interesting that spurs games on sundays aren't on til tuesday morning, but all others are on Monday mornings.

My predictiion is that these guys will only last one season. They needed a crash hot sexy first season but with the competition this will not happen. Next season they won't even bother bidding. Sky will pick it up, make a football channel and charge us all an extra $20 a month to watch it.

Can I just say for those of you who haven't watched club TV channels its pretty much amateur hour, especially the commentary. Very one sided as you'd expect and the whole presentation graphics etc is not great. I'm a Liverpool fan and I find liverpooltv which is free here to be a tough watch.

Actually, looking at Sky's scheduling for the first couple of weeks really highlights how badly having the delayed coverage affects them. They have signed up 4 clubs but in Week 1 they only have two games on Sunday and in Weeks 2 and 3 they have only one game on Sunday. Interesting.

then the next matchday which is after the international break sees them all playing on the saturday so they'll have 4 games to show on that sunday the 15th

Yeah, and then some weeks the 4 teams will be playing each other meaning less games for Sky.

I guess my point is it's going to be very variable coverage from week to week. I don't think PLP are out of this yet.

Coliseum have the rights for 3 seasons.

Only 3000 people entered a competition that was giving away 1000 passes. Sky will buy the rights back off them for cheaper than what they would normally pay. This whole venture has been slapstick, no HD, still no iPad app. Pretty much everything they promised from the get go isn't there for launch.

Sky's coverage has been terrible and limited for years, not just by the large number of games either being delayed, or not aired at all.

The apps need sorting yes, I can't wait for HD but we have all benefited from the competition that sky has finally had from collisieum and sommet. Why is there all this pretence sky is somehow the champion of the football viewer and that them requiring the rights is in the football fans interests...

Anybody want to either sell me one of their free passes that they don't need, or send me an unused discount code?

I wonder if that means you can watch it more than once during the 24 hour window, or if it means if you leave the match it'll only start from where you left it.

I doubt it'd be just from where you left it as then they'd need a different playback controls without the rewind function. but I suppose we'll find out this weekend.

Yeah that's what I thought, but they told me one viewing. Inconsistent again.

Yeah I'm kind of in a state of "see what happens" rather than trusting anything they say right now.
