I suppose that's similar to those who only watch the big games in the EPL so don't mind the club channels on sky. I think there will be enough of a market.

The market will tend to be older with a fair bit of disposable income too, so they won't mind (thought it'll initially annoy them as they'll currently have sky) paying $15 a month for it.

The flip side of that is an older audience may not be so willing to try something new like an online service. 54% of votes on stuff said "if its not on tv I'm not watching it" which really highlights this point.

Was talking to my dad the other day about this, he's 68 and him and his mates watch a fair bit of golf, and he said they won't be signing up for any online service that requires connecting HDMI cables to the TV or the like. Said the golf left on SKY is enough to watch for them. They're all keen golfers and play a couple of times a week...

It might be enough for your Dad for now, but I don't think SKY have actually said how long they have the rights for the likes of the Ryder Cup and the majors.  They could also lose this over the next couple of years.

It just seems to be the way things are going, eventually we'll all have to adapt.

Yeah I and others have asked them numerous times but they have so far ignored the question on how long they have the majors and Ryder Cup for. Makes me think they only had this year's Ryder Cup and the majors for 2015 in their current deal. If they had them for another 5 years or something surely they would want to say.

Best experience I've had with PLP so far this morning. Have been using Firefox so far as they were having issues with Chrome at the start of the season but tried Chrome today as it's supposed to be fixed and it was great. Didn't really have any of the judder I usually get and it was close to perfect. The reason I originally switched from Firefox to Chrome for everything was due to streaming video issues in Firefox so happy now Chrome is good for this.

was watching via airplay through my phone, cause I couldn't be bothered fetching my iPad. picture was alright through my phone, but when I was finally bothered to grab my iPad at halftime, the airplay through the iPad with the 4500 stream vs the iPhone which tops out at 3000. through the iPad looks so much better. will definitely not be settling for airplay through my phone again.

Watched via the Samsung TV App again on the weekend, which was a good experience. But later in the day happened to turn the TV on and saw that Arsenal TV was on and watched about 3-4 mins of it (hoping to see Chel$ki score :)), but the quality of the picture really struck me as being quite a bit better than what I get via PLP.

We have VDSL and i think the picture quality is 'good' but doesn't quite stack up when compared to HD ticket on SKY.

It's really a case of convenience v picture quality for me...

Do you change the quality? Or just go for "Best available"?

I stand to be corrected, but I dont think you can change it on the Samsung TVApp. I actually just went to try but i can't see to be able to watch any game in the past - just the highlight packages..

Ah didn't realise it was not on the app. Yeah that's a problem if it can't be changed, best available can be a pain especially at times when your line speed fluctuates as it jumps up and down based on that.

Yikes that was horrible last night

Yeah posted in the Arsenal thread but that was awful. Froze every 2 minutes for me, then in the second half started skipping a minute too and all three goals were missed. Glad it wasn't just my system.

What I loathe is that if you watch the recap it's as live, rather than like loading a YouTube video. This means you still have live transmission issues that you wouldn't have had if it had been a recording you could let buffer.

For what it's worth I asked PLP on facebook whether there was any chance of an app for Chromecast now that it has officially launched in NZ and they replied that they are looking into it. Would be nice to get a wireless option for those of us without Samsung or Apple devices.

Lightbox Sport just announced, joint venture with coliseum. To include all coliseum sports (plp, golf, top 14 French rugby) be interesting to see how it is priced

Really interested in what they'll be charging, haven't got sky and just use parents Sky Go account so used to watching sport on iPad.

I'm positive things will go wrong.

I imagine itll be a way they can offer packages across sport and tv. While still giving you the option of buying each sport/lightbox individually. Great idea.

It'll be interesting to see how popular French rugby is.

Yeah combining TV/Movies and sport had to be the next step in streaming options. Interested to see the pricing, and whether they are going to be able to get much new and up to date content rather than mostly old shows or several seasons behind in current shows.

yeah that is probably going to be on aspect where Neon has the advantage. Though I get a feeling sky are going to show their programmes online well after they've shown them on their ripoff television service. Which would negate any advantage, but be typical sky behaviour.

Lightbox is now available on PS4 too so hopefully this partnership may allow PLP to do the same. Still holding out for an app so I don't have to plug the laptop into the TV anymore.

once their sites are integrated, you will be able.

Ps4 app is great news.

+1 for chromecast. All they have to is amend their website to allow chrome users to use the plugin.

NFL gamepass just became compatible with chrome cast and they use the same platform. So maybe PLP won't be too far behind?

PLP currently can be casted using the Tab Casting functionality in Google Chrome, but it's not overly reliable. I'm hoping that native support for Chromecast will come soon since it's already been developed for NFL GamePass (and is amazing on that platform).

Will buy a Chromecast as soon as it comes. They said they were looking into it when I asked last week but not heard anything further.

2c - many of you probably already have newer televisions with inbuilt functionality to stream from your laptop anyway...

Yeah fairly cheap option compared to Samsung TV or ipad etc. I wouldn't have any other use for one though so hanging out for native PLP support before buying.

lightbox on ps4 is awesome and so easy to use.

Can't wait until PLP is on there too.

I asked PLP on Facebook about PS4 with the new partnership and they replied:

It's a distinct possibility for 2015/16.

Sounds more hopeful than "we're looking into it." Have also asked if there is any update on Chromecast now that NFL Gamecast has native support.

I see there's an ad on the PLP website saying that they'll have the 2015 Copa America in June,  No other details yet, but should be a nice addition.

exciting news that!

or we were happily enjoying the service without any compliant, and nothing new to comment on.

Interesting that sky has a lot more competition coming its way in the tv/movie market via online websites such as netflix and lightbox too.

Sky themselves have entered both of these markets too (although pricing the sport fanpass one way too high, and not offering up to date tv/movie content on neon - meaning they're going to have very little market share).

Your earlier comments are looking more stupid by the day.

Think I read that lightbox are getting chromecast in the next month or so. I imagine next season PLP will be integrated with lightbox, so it'll also have chromecast, ps4 etc?

Lightbox on ps4 is brilliant, an easier setup than a sky decoder. So getting PLP on there would be awesome.

Edit: just realised I repeated myself from 3 months ago....

Really hoping for either PS4 or Chromecast next season. Connecting the laptop to the TV is still my only option. I've found it does also work through the browser on our Microsoft Surface tablet which is helpful for times I'm away from home as it's easier to pack into a bag than having to take the laptop. Was away last weekend so tried it out and it worked fine.
