Coliseum Sports - EPL Overlords

The other aspect now of course, is itd be even more annoying having sky bump live A League, if we know there is a possibility that a platform like coliseum could have picked the A league up and shown every game live.

Could have?... nah, they couldn't. Not last time at least though next time who knows... whatever happens some people will bleat, some people will orgasm, and most people will get on with their lives. Few will actually DO anything (much less cancel their Sky subscription).

and by in large the EPL will go unnoticed by the general public in NZ, I'm suprised the EPL didn't think of this. They will lose the casual footy viewer that may have watched a game or three on sky. I'd love to know what gurantees coliseum offerred, cos surely the EPL has viewrship targets as well as $$$$$$.

There will be a game(s?) on Sunday arvo and highlights on Monday night on TVNZ. Good move from Coliseum, grow and create demand for their product.

It would be interesting to see the viewing stats for say Perth v Adelaide live.

It would be so minimal I could understand why Sky would delay it to show live rugby for instance.

The way TV1, 2 & 3 are going, I can see why people tend to go and buy the TV series of their choice on DVD. Those three channels seem to interrupt the commercials with a program break every 5-7 mins.

We all would like Sky to be cheaper, losing the EPL has got me rethinking keeping my Sky sport subscription. $26.50 per month.

Discounted would be great for me. Bandwidth isn't my issue (300 gigs wasted a month atm!)

We have about 50gb spare a month, so I'm hoping this is announcing unmetering. Wouldn't mind a discount though.

I'm not with Telecom but this is good to see. Hopefully there may be other deals with other providers yet. I'll wait and see before considering a switch anyway.

Coliseum aren't keen on discounting as it erodes the perceived (and real) value of the product.

Unmetered more likely.

Good point. Was thinking about switching to telecom anyway as they already have pretty good higher end data cap rates, unmetered EPL would seal the deal.

If it's unmetered there's no need for a deal between Coliseum and Telecom though. Telecom (and any other provider) can do that off their own back. I'm expecting it to be Telecom subsidising the $150 to some extent for their higher end customers. Happy to be surprised though.

I think that the benefit in there being a deal between Coliseum and Telecom would be that Telecom could negotiate exclusive rights to be the "official" unmeterered partner of PLP, which would make Telecom a very attractive option for new customers. Not sure how negotiating those rights would work in practice though.

Deal? It's a Telecom presser - not Coliseum... Slingshot have done it too haven't they?... though without the marketing (or penetration) to get the leverage TNZ can.

"Telecom is set to announce later today that it has struck a deal with English Premier League (EPL) rights holder Coliseum to let its broadband customers watch EPL matches cheap or free online."
So yeah, they are having their own presser, and it's announcing a deal by the sounds of it.

Sweet, am with Telecom already. Changing ISPs is a pain in the arse.

Is there an official press release out or anything?

over 12 years ago · edited over 12 years ago · History

I'm hearing new Telecom customers get a free Premierleaguepass.com sub (don't know how long for) for 80GB+ plan.

Existing customers get 15% discount.

Telecom: Won't be exclusive Premierleaguepass.com deal but will be "the best".

over 12 years ago · edited over 12 years ago · History

I suppose going from 50GB to 80GB for free for existing Telecom customers is great, but apart from that this is pretty underwhelming stuff.

If you currently have a 50GB plan you just got an extra 30GB for free (more than enough to watch most games) plus you can get the pass for $127.50. Not too bad I suppose.

Is just to register interest or actually signing up for the season?

I think registering interest, just like on the premierleaguepass website.

All good then thanks.  Will register - haven't heard anything from telecom about upping the data to 80GB but will be shweet if so.

media release:

"To help make sure Kiwi BEPL fans have all the data they need to live-stream or devour as many on-demand games and BEPL content as they want, Telecom has announced today it has increased its popular 50GB plans (which start at $85 per month) to 80GB at no additional cost3. The company has also recently revised their entire range of home phone and broadband packages to deliver more generous data allowances, including a 500GB package priced from $119 per month.

It is estimated that a standard 90-minute game will use roughly 1.1GB depending on the quality of the stream selected."

The article posted yesterday indicated that Vodafone might offer a similar package, I would be very happy if that was the case!

Hopefully something for current customers, not just new ones.

If you're an existing customer of Telecom and are free to leave them for another ISP (ie, not locked into a fixed-term contract as I currently am), I'd have thought you'd be able to call them and negotiate being treated as a new customer.
