Stoke City are heading for the Premiership and Port Vale are heading for Div 2 - doesn't seem long ago when Stoke was in a lower league - sometimes football sucks.

Colchester did very well last season and were forced to sell 7 players, even though some of the buyers finished lower than they did! ugh.

Hull City benefited, WillyB

Brown has added some strength at the back and Garcia has scored a few

Good luck for your lot, i was genuinely surprised to see your league position the other week

Could be worse - I've just seen where Wrexham is - I fancy Vale getting a result against them next season in the "local" derby - well localish.

Try being a Partick Thistle supporter. Then you'll see how unfair life really is!

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Bloody Garcia left on a free too, the bastard.

How about we straight swap Sheringham for Okocha!

Things can only pick up from here. Would like to see Sheringham starting more often if he can. No point having him there if he can only make small cameo's from the bench.

Yes the loss of players is beginning to tell at ColU. We started OK but have never quite convinced this season. Last year I was always confident that Cureton and Ilewumo would score in every game and that Brown would keep it tight.

The realities of not being able to match the wages that other Championship sides can offer is stuffing us! Our best loanees dont stay either (Hogan being an example).

It isnt fair because a) ColU is one of the best run clubs in the country b) we dont pay bloodsucker agent fees c) we have a new community stadium coming and d) it just isnt!!

Need a bloody overseas investor it seems these days to get anywhere but unless we pack up and move to London doesn't seem to be a chance of that happening. London U's...hah don't bloody think so!

Perhaps time to look at some of the youth players and see if any of them can make up the step up. West ham the academy of football? Give us a break!

Isnt Andy Barron trialling at Colchester?
Permalink Permalink

I hadn't heard of it. Should've looked out for him couple of weeks ago with YHM played Canterbury.  They should just have Robbo instead!

Col U have a great youth set up and a successful team (second tier competition) and have done well in the Youth Cup in recent seasons.

Reality is that we need to produce to sell to survive!

Our original promotion pushes were paid for partly by Lua Lua! Halford money kept us afloat last year. Where is our next bread ticket?

None of my family or friends in Colcheter has heard about the Barron trial.(Doesnt mean its not happening).

George Elokobi according to wikipedia was linked to a move to Celtic but in saying that I realise thats coming from a pretty unreliable source. Have you seen him playing and is he any good?

Its a catch 22. We need money to buy better players and increase our squad size but to do that we need to get money from selling our players. Recipe for diaster..

Defeat at home to Blackpool is a disaster. means we have to play near promotion form to get out of trouble - will be hard. Reports are that up to 5 new players will be brought in in next two weeks. Remit is to find experienced players on fringes of teams like WBA, Wolves etc to add graft and bite. One one year contracts I understand. Aim is to finish 5th or 6th from bottom then rebuild over summer. Hard ask.

We're losing Matt Connolly after the Charlton game. Looks like he's going to QPR on loan now. Jeez, how many young premier league team players do QPR have on loan now? Michael Mancienne and Ben Sahar from Chelsea, Kieran Lee from Man Utd, now Connolly.

Desperately need those 5 new players. Bringing in some more on loan would be a smart idea though. Perhaps Craig Cathcart from Man Utd. Did get a senior call up last season, didn't play but was close too. He's coming back from a half season loan to Royal Antwerp. Otherwise plenty of young guns at United who could possibly come or from the other big 4 clubs. Need to strike up some partnerships with some premier league clubs getting players coming here for experience on a regular basis. Its not a long term solution but just for championship survival for now.

How big of a loss will Connolly be do you think?

Any loss is bad. Connelly has been good for us.
Its a shame things have gone this way; Sheringham, Platt and Lisbie just dont score as freely as Cureton and Iwelumo did. Without Yeates we would have been even worse off. Your idea re top4 is a good one but seems unlikely.

I had some hope for Lisbie, he never seemed to have had much of a chance at Charlton, just bench appearances and the like. An opportunity for him to really challenge and prove himself but perhaps he hasn't quite stepped up to it like he should've.

Well if we can get any more similar to Connolly it'll be good. Just a shame its not us running the club eh!

given his recent contribution i'd be happy with that - then city could loan sheringham to the Phoenix

i thought he'd be brilliant but word on the City forum  is that he's not up for it

Humble pie time - I take everything back about Lisbie. Go you U's!

Lets just hope he can carry on this form, god knows we need it!

Shame to hear about Okocha tigers, back in his prime he was absolutely superb. Watched a video of him the other day getting the better of Roy Keane, now thats something you don't see often!

Geez Valiants went up 2 - 0 against Carlisle away - and promptly lost 3 - 2. Life is still not fair.

Maybe we should have a game against Blackburn - we'd be better than them with Santa Cruz.

My deep depression prevented me responding. I am still reeling from the fact that QPR can afford to sign the players we couldn't (Ephraim and Connelly). Then I get hit with the appalling Posh result. Do these players know nothing of our FA Cup history!

To balance this when I look at the playing rosters of the teams we are playing where they can leave recent premiership players on the bench (!!) it is not too surprising that we find it hard to compete. The Charlton result gives hope - we need some more. Also the bottom of the Championship is tight and the points tally high compared with other divisions - shows the gap is not that great.

Moving on to Port Vale.

It must be hard supporting Vale when Stoke are doing so well. ColU fans have lived in the supposed shadow of Ipswich for many years. It was particularly tough when Ipswich where a top quality side in the First Division/Premiership and we were struggling.

This is where the difference comes re real fans. The real fans are there in the harder times. So good luck to Vale fans I say.

Some news to make you happy Zephyr. Port Vale have been on a shopping spree for a new backline and have picked up All White Dave Mulligan, Aston Villa's Chris Herd on loan and Adam Eckersly from Man U.

At QPR out of the 32 years I have supported them, we've have 5 really good years and the rest have been depression type years. I can relat to how you feel.

I hear Rochdale fans are the best in the League as in their entirre history they have been promoted only once! Yet they still turn out which is awseome.

I'm still fairly cautiously optimistic we can survive. Few strong results strung together and hopefully some resolute defending. Hoping we can look out for a few quality loan deals!

I admire those Rochdale fans...theres dedication for you!

There's not a lot else to do in Rochdale

From memory I got them relegated over a dodgy transfer deal (long story) but felt guilty so took them over in the conference about 2010 and in ten years took them to Europe.

ColU sign Coyne from Luton and Ifil from Spurs. Two class defenders to stop the goal leaks!

Both record signings for the Us but chicken feed for the big clubs we compete with!

It was Rochdale that ColU beat in the FA Cup 4th round that then led to the famous match in the 5th round against the mighty Leeds. It was 3-3 away and 5-0 at home in the replay. I went to both matches as a teenager. Rochdale had a star striker called Tony Buck in those days.

Never been to an away game at Port Vale though.

Haven't heard of Coyne but have heard remotely of Ifil. Glad to see the Colchester gods are listening to me! How much do you think Ifil came for, they still haven't disclosed it yet.

You mean we won 5-0 against them? How long was this ago? seems like a damned good result
