Welcome back Jazzman!

I do worry a little when I see the names of players we are linked to and think....who? Then you read other clubs around us being linked to players that we know. Still, Coutinho was a find and nobody really wanted Sturridge so maybe Liverpool see something other teams don't.

Super jealous about melbourne, hope you all have an awesome time.

Yeah had a bit of the same feeling regarding the recruiting targets but some of the lesser names have done well over the last couple of years, Ba, Michu etc.

Cheers too bro! 4 weeks to go!

Yeah, welcome back, lad.

Lots of sense there. I think I agree with you regarding Rodgers. Not entirely convinced but sick of chopping and changing managers. And he's not Hodgson, he definitely deserves another year or two to have a go at it. Massively agree about Sterling and Suso. Hopefully this year he doesn't need to use them so often because we'll have a bit more of a squad, so can manage them a little better.

And agree again, interesting season for Lucas. Still think we need cover for him in some form that isn't Joe Allen (it's not his position, not fair on the lad). Hopefully he can get to a similar level he was before the injury.

Interesting to look at this new "transfer committee" we supposedly have and the work they are doing. Hopefully they know what they're doing, and can keep finding us new players like Coutinho.

Man, pre-season isn't far away, there. So I read Aspas is wearing number 9, and Mignolet is number 22?

You all must be very excited for Melbourne!

Getting very excited for Melbourne!

One question I've been pondering is whether if Suarez goes we'll take the proceeds and buy a high-profile, well-known replacement, or whether we'll continue to invest in a squad of slightly lesser-known players from other leagues. The approach this off-season seems to be towards targeting this latter type of player (the Anti-Carroll I like to label them), which as Tyler has said above usually has us all going "who?"

Do you lot think that Rodgers is likely to spend large on one player if Suarez goes, or continue with his current more prudent approach?

Permalink Permalink

Speculation of course but I think if he does go, Rodgers is pretty much obligated to spend large on someone. Maybe not the whole lot but certainly most of it on a single player and a striker at that. He has said we were 30 goals short last year so no Suarez makes it 60! Lewandowski come on down :)

Permalink Permalink

Agree. Even if just to appease the fans, I think we have to spend a large portion of it on someone really boss. But we'll never get a player as good as Suarez, so if we could get say Lamela and Soldado or something like that... Just throwing names out there, but would want somebody who is proven and could come straight in.

Mind you, wouldn't mind the Polish Ian Rush!

Bit slow on the news front. Jonjo Shelvey off to Swansea. Fair enough really, think he would have got even less game time this season.

Permalink Permalink
almost 13 years ago · edited about 5 years ago · History

Little Surprised at that TBH. I thought Rogers really rated him.... certainly seemed the case in the "Being Liverpool" Docco

Permalink Permalink

I wonder if Jonjo was a bit dull....not the sharpest mentally! It did seem that Rodgers had big raps on him and he did score a couple of screamers for us. Hope he does well, actually I think he will do well.

Yeah maybe after watching him for the whole season, Rodgers changed his mind. I was never overly impressed with his touch or vision but figured he was young and could improve a fair bit. Good luck to him.

A bit sad to see him go but I think it was on the cards.

Interesting article from soccernet

And to think I held an ounce of hope that the 3rd kit would be decent.  How wrong I was.

Mkhitaryan to Dortmund. Sigh. Probably just the club leaking information about our 'targets' with no real intent to sign him. By many accounts, we never actually spoke to the guy, but all the Libpool journalists said he was keen for LFC. What a joke.

Permalink Permalink

Yeah pretty poor, thought it was a bit fishy that we were signing players left right and centre and nothing was progressing with him

Permalink Permalink

Sad. He seemed like the pick of the rumours. Good work by Dortmund anyway. Must suck balls finishing 2nd in 2 comps only to get picked apart by the team finishing 1st.

Suarez interesting Chelsea, Arsenal and Man City?! It's going to be an interesting few months

Permalink Permalink

I think I've said it before, if he leaves he better leave the league! Would be so painful watching him carve for someone else in England. Hardly gets him away from his English press issue either really, does it :)

Surely he won't leave to another UK club. That might make him literally the most hated man in world football.

I actually wouldn't be surprised to see him go to a different EPL team.

I wonder if we have other targets for a silky attacking midfielder now Mkthyran seems to have fallen through? Eriksen? Might as well pick up Alderweild while we are there too!

I'm done with top flight football if Luis goes to another Premier League side.

Don't know who we bring in. Has gone very quiet since we missed out on Mkhitaryan.

Very quiet indeed mate, surely something is in the pipeline.....especially if suarez leaves.  Spearing to leave to blackburn for 1.5 mill.  Seems a shame that bolton didn't match the bid as he was the clubs players of the season.

van Persie... Suarez... all the same

Permalink Permalink
almost 13 years ago · edited about 5 years ago · History

Well Suarez has admitted he wants to leave and now he is syaing he wants to play for a Champions League club...I read last night that Chelsea are keen......well good riddance. I'm actually sick of him now.

Time to start thinking about replacements....I wonder if we are keen on Benteke? Could be a good replacement at half the price of Suarez?

Permalink Permalink
almost 13 years ago · edited about 5 years ago · History

Hmmm is that the admission he may stay in England? Balls to that! Espn FC said last night that we had turned down a 30m bid from Arse but all agreed it was probably just them trying to get things moving elsewhere. This is gonna turn into last day madness again......

Cheers Robags. Was good to see Toure and Mignolet in action for the first time and second half debuts for Aspas and Alberto.Cracker curling strike from Aspas for the 4th Goal and I think he may have put Sterling through for the 3rd as well. So,PNE not the quality of the sides they will meet going forward obviously but good hit out to see what the newbies have to offer. Early days but I'm hopeful!

Goals here

Good effort bro and cheers for the link. Good first up hit out for the season from what I've read and nice to see Aspas getting on the scoresheet already. Roll on next week! Oh and El P if you're reading this, was it you that made a comment on the Guardian website asking if they were anti-Kop? Spotted if so!

Haha wasn't me, lad!

Nice 4-0 win to start off. Doesn't mean anything like, and some pretty dreadful defending from Preston. Pre-season obviously all about fitness. But nice to be underway. Impressed you watched it RedGed, I only remembered it was on about 5 hours before it kicked off.

Watched the highlights....jeepers Aspas looks uncordinated! Nice goal he scored but he looks like a munter!

Stevie G signs a new contract too!

Permalink Permalink
over 12 years ago · edited about 5 years ago · History

Speaking of munters, that PNE keeper, good grief.

Sterling didnt even try to fake him out, just strolled round him.

And that Aspas strike pretty much went straight at his face, how'd he even get out the way of it? I coulda saved that just by having slow reactions - woulda hit me in the smoosh before I decided what to do!

Like I was reading on another forum lets not get too carried away.......I'd love it to see them stuff melbourne thou :)  Just saw the 28 man squad for the tour. No sturridge dammit, I was keen to see how quick he was in the flesh.  Starting to get excited!

On another note anyone here part of the NZ liverpool supporters club?

Damn, why no Sturridge, is he injured? If so it seems I am far too absorbed in the transfer world of potential, rumoured, speculative news than the real world of actual news. That's a bit disappointing, I was looking forward to seeing him as well.
