Agree with all above, epic night. YNWA sung in the pub beforehand also, quality!

Just read in the Herald Sun that the Victory are planning a trip to Liverpool for a game and for some training. Lucky them! Also said Liverpool may come back to Victoria. Haha just clicked, is that why they're called Victory?

Got back home this morning at 1am.  Amazing is all I have to say.  YNWA was so so special.  Bought tears to the eyes.  Bring on the new season!

Steve Nicol is the worst commentator - at least make an effort to be slightly impartial, or recognise that there are two teams on the pitch

All I do is make the stuff I would've liked
Reference things I wanna watch, reference girls I wanna bite
Now I'm firefly like a burning kite
And yousa fake fuck like a fleshlight

Have to say I watched singing YNWA and got a bit emotional! Looked amazing! Jealous of you guys, what an experience.

In other news...we still have Suarez and there are 3 weeks until the season starts. I am convinced he will leave still don't know where. I just hope it isn't completely last minute like Owen and Torres. We started last season a striker short too after loaning out Carroll and not signing Dempsey, we paid for it in results too.

One thing that does worry me is the Agger to Barca and Skrtel to Napoli rumours. I imagine if Barca come in for Agger he would find it hard to say no (even though he loves Liverpool). That might mean we have to rebuild our defence just before a new season.

I worry about us being caught late with Suarez, because if he goes to Arsenal or any other English club, they're going to be in no rush to sign him based on him being banned for the first six weeks. There's very little motivation for them to get the deal done early and I just hope like hell Rodgers has learnt from last year and has a few contingency plans in place. That goes for Agger and Skrtel too.

Fair point made Fitzy. I just finished reading this, from The Chosen One himself...

https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/transfers/exclusive-steven-gerrard-admits-liverpools-season-depends-on-luis-suarez-8740842.html

Stevie G laying down the truth of it.

We could understand Real Madrid or Barcelona. Here's hoping Luis Suarez gets the message and commits to Liverpool, at least for this season. It may not look like it to him right now but this season has the makings of greatness for Liverpool and Luis Suarez. Please may it be so...

btw......

This was a few of us at the Young and Jackson Pub, cnr of Flinders and Swanston Sts  Melbourne...Groff, Fitzy, Azza67 , Jazzman... maybe you were there? ....last Wednesday just before we left for the march to MCG. Our "choir practice"  was ...er,.."enthusiastic", but very average..needed to down a few more ales, imo...    ;-)

This is the view from near the very back of the top tier, Gate 4 at the MCG just before that gives you some perspective of how vast it is...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x0YsvR4vMj0

..and , after quite a few more ales, and with the help of a few more friends, here's the result.....(just in case you haven't seen it a dozen times already  ;-) ..)

I think Agger has turned down Barcelona before, the mentalist :) We will be loaning Skrtel to Napoli by the sounds of it. Yup agreed, still think Suarez will leave. But we can't afford to leave it late.

Raiding Atletico again....last time we scammed one of their strikers (Torres) it was a success! Hope it goes through

Read somewhere that Liverpool had slashed over a million pounds a month on wages in the last year....Maxi, Kuyt, Carroll, J Cole, Adam, All massive earners but not providing the same output. At some level it is really good management.

This..............as long as it's not a replacement for Suarez!  Good to see that they are not afraid to spend cash when required.  Hope this transfer happens would be a great end to a summer of transfers!

So with Skrtel leaving who is going to be getting more game time at CB?  Kelly, Wisdom? I like coates and would love to see more of him but is he rated by rodgers?  Or is there going to be a replacement come in on less coin?

Good to see Robinson go out on loan too, hopefully he's a starter.

Hanging out for the start of the season!

In other news, I am feeling quite positive about Aspas as a signing. He has showed some nice touches and a touch of arrogance that most good strikers have. Scored 3 in pre-season I think? Hope he can continue

What about that flying backheeler from Aspas for Allen's second miss.. (I think it was).. in front of goal in the Stevie G testimonial? Outrageous but great to see.

Sounds like Downing is probably on the way out too. £5m to either Newcastle or West Ham by the sounds.

So costa deal not happening, downing potentially going but massive wage would involve a payout (would we need to replace him?), freeman keen on spearing again since holden is out injured, but I'm sure he won't be going to bolton either on his massive wage so another payout no doubt to get him off the books.  Can't believe he is on such a huge wage!  I'm sure if you stacked the cash up he earns a week it would be taller than him!  Expensive times ahead lads!

So..... Who are we buying to replace Suarez?

May as well say goodbye to 4th place. Will be fighting it out with Swansea, Southampton and Everton again this year.

Nice. Didn't realise it was so easy.

I've always regretted choosing 'paulm' as my nickname. Not sure if it's worth changing though, people won't know who I am! I was always jealous whenever that guy 'footpaul' used to post. Clever name that, wish I'd thought of it!

Must say you've had terrible luck with your name changes - first el nino, now el pistolero, who were you originally before el nino? I forget.

Yeah, one good feature of the new layout ;) Haha yeah, that's a decent name... Just get on another forum and claim it as your own!

Haha, El-Kun. Should probably just give up, I reckon.

Must say I'm sick of anything Suarez related now. Hope it's not too late to find a decent replacement. If he's prepared to go to court to force a move then he can't be in the squad, too toxic. C'mon Brendan, find us a gem!

don't dismiss Bendtner... think of the tradtion, Crouch, Carroll.

Na I reckon it is perfect.....how about El-Spearing or El-Downing

I suppose we can see who is pushing for the move. The Club obviously wanted to keep him but he didn't want to stay. MEans we can't blame the club as the ones pushing him out the door.

I was thinking about loyalty and have decided that leaving the club is not unloyal but its the manner of leaving which I get angry about. Same as Torres. Look at guys like Alonso or Mascherano who were potentially in similar situations (alonso slightly less) but they still love the club and respect the fans etc, same could be said of Henry and Fabregas from Arsenal. Classy that

I always thought Crouch was okay, if I'm honest.

Personally, I think we're better off keeping Suarez. Tell him he either plays first team, or he can fudge off back to Uruguay for a year, and we will fine the shark out of him. We simply cannot strengthen Arsenal if we're serious about getting ahead of them for fourth place. If we sell them Suarez, we have zero chance of getting top four, and that will show the ambition of the club.

And yeah, great shout, should probably try El-Downing!

I'm pretty sure we're hanging in for a big offer from outside of England in regards to Suarez. Here's hoping! Don't think we can keep him at this stage. It's playing out late though, far too late for my liking.

He clearly doesn't want to play for your lot any more, not sure how I feel about him in an Arsenal shirt though :/

Permalink Permalink
over 12 years ago · edited about 5 years ago · History

If you want to win something Arsenal, he'll be a huge step in the right direction. Outrageously good footballer. He's a bit of a cod though, obviously. I embraced it as a "he's a cod, but he's our cod", and loved him. But he'll likely be going on strike next year to get to Madrid. So don't get too attached :)

And yeah, hopefully Madrid or Bayern come in at this point haha.

Nice 4-1 this morning in pre-season. Last game against Celtic on the weekend. Has been a good pre-season, although the quality of the opposition hasn't been great.

Permalink Permalink

Don't get me wrong, I'm not going to boo him or anything. But if he acts like a cod in an Arsenal shirt there is no way I'll be wearing a t shirt with his face on it...
