Guardian awash with Suarez stories this morning. Seriously don't think any large euro club needs him so won't spend the money. Real, Bayern, Barcelona, PSG ie the clubs that could afford him are all stacked up front. Seems like it's Arse or nothing and apparently he's not training with the rest of the squad now either.

This Suarez business keeps getting messier and messier, surely he has to go now.

As I said earlier, I think we're desperately holding out for a non-english bid. If we want fourth (and I'm confident we do) then selling our number 1 goal scorer to our main rival for fourth is crazy and I'm sure everyone at Anfield knows it.

Errr you're hardly a contender for fourth. Main rival? Lol.

Nope but you chaps would be favorite for fourth thus main rival.

John Henry has said we're not selling Suarez to anyone.

Yeah read that this morning, too late to sign a replacement being the reason.

Assuming this is the case and he can't force his way out, it will be the measure of the man to see how he plays when back from suspension.

Yeah. Have a feeling this won't be the end of it.

I can't actually believe that statement.....I would love a willing Suarez to stay but am glad the club are standing firm. Seems like our wish of having this resoved quickly is not going to happen huh.

Real Madrid coming in last minute with an underwhelming offer which we reluctantly agree to is how I think it will finish.

If we do make him sit in the reserves/ train alone for 6 months, do you think he would significantly lose his value? If yes, I'm sure the americans would be glad to sell.

This. If they're looking at a choice between Bale and Suarez, and Bale is triple the price, that seems like a pretty easy decision to me. Bale is clearly not triple the player that Suarez is.

To start the week with good thoughts!

I love Daniel Agger! https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/daniel-agger-appointed-liverpool-fcs-5692597

Followed quickly by negative thoughts......have we strengthened at all? There is lots of talk of competition for places etc but all I can see is we have replaced Reina with Mignolet, Shelvey with Alberton, Carroll for Aspas and Carra for Toure. All pretty similar players. I suppose they fit the BR mould a little more but its a little hard to see these new guys as huge increases.

Couldn't agree more. We've spent no money, while the teams above us have strengthened. I'd go as far as to say we've gone backwards from last year. Watching the Celtic game- did we look any different from last year? Same problems. Big centre-forward causes us issues. Unable to break down the other team. And we looked even worse because we didn't have Suarez.

Of course you can't read too much into pre-season friendlies, but I think we were taking this reasonably seriously. Of all of the games, this was the toughest game we had, and we've not looked good at all imo. Kolo and Lucas were good, Coutinho had flashes of brilliance. Over all though, I'm pretty disappointed. More worrying than Spurs or Arsenal though, is that the likes of Swansea, Southampton, Norwich have been spending money and improving.

Agree on all of these points. Concerned......

Downing to go.....still clouds over Skrtel and Suarez. Possibly Agger.....will be a very thin squad then so i'm guessing we will see some more players come in. Sakho and Cissokho two we are linked with....maybe another attacking player

owners are really putting the screws on the wages.  Learnt their expensive mistakes from last season.

Would be nice to sign someone, at some point soon.

So how is everyone going to be watching the new season?

I haven't signed up to PLP yet, I'm going to see how frustrating it gets trying to get my Liverpool fix by other, 'unofficial' means. If that just gets to frustrating I plan to get PLP at that point.

I have a feeling Sommet are about to announce that they're going to be showing all Liverpool games, that would be great and if that happens I think it'll be very unlikely that I end up getting PLP.

What about everyone else?

Yeah, I'm the same. Thinking I'll wait and see these first few weeks. If we're on Sommet, that'd be boss. Otherwise, I think I'll see how LFCTV is.

Permalink Permalink

How does LFCTV work then? I've never really looked in to it, given that everything was on Sky until now. Are there live games on LFCTV? Full replays? On demand?

Permalink Permalink
over 12 years ago · edited about 5 years ago · History

No idea, to be honest. Will have to look into all that.

Permalink Permalink
over 12 years ago · edited about 5 years ago · History

LFCTV doesn't show games live so I will go 'unofficial!!'. Sommet is looking pretty amazing as they show AFL too, my second love.

Downing gone overnight...I do think mor eplayers will come in but we talked last year about being short of options within the team and here we are again.....sounding like Arsenal

Oh, don't they? Seems strange, that. Will probably do the same then.

Yup, Downing out. And now some Uruguayan journo is saying Suarez is staying, and may sign a new contract.

Why would Suarez sign a new contract when he's got three years to run on this one? Just a pay rise I guess?

Yeah payrise, I guess, and probably putting in a concrete clause.

Permalink Permalink
over 12 years ago · edited about 5 years ago · History

If it's true about a new contract, I'd guess they're going to extend for one year so that there's still 3 to run at the end of this season - having only 2 years to run reduces a player's value by quite a lot. 2 years is the tipping point where the power starts to move to the buyer rather than the seller.

I think it would all be with a view to letting him go after this season. 3 years to run means Liverpool still have the power, and I've no doubt the carrot dangled to get him to sign is a proper release clause this time.

If you guys pull this off it will be a very good move in my opinion. Sort of win-win as well - if he has a sh*t season or gets injured a lot, the buyers won't be there and you'll probably end up keeping him long-term (and you know he has the quality to bounce back from one crappy season). If he has another great season, obviously it helps you guys in the short term with results and it also ensures someone will probably trigger that release clause at the beginning of the next off-season, giving you guys a huge stack of cash and plenty of time to spend it.

Obviously Suarez thought this all happened one year ago LOL get a new lawyer son!

Yeah I'm not sure if I believe this about Suarez staying. I guess he would like the exit clause in concrete. There is still quite a lot of time left in the window so I wouldn't be surprised to see him go. He does seem to do well and is well supported at the club so who knows.

At the end of the day, I would be stoked if he stays despite his actions...means the world can go back to hating him and us!

Much the same for me.  Plp looks like its going to be the way.  Just waiting for the apple app to come out before I pay.  They are cutting  it pretty damn fine thou!  I enjoy watching other games so I haven't really looked at the lfctv option.  Loads of content on there thou, u21,u18, reserves, academy, classic games, and Claire Rourke is a bit of a minx too!

Call me cynical put I'm beginning to roll my eyes a bit when I hear about these big bids for players.  Are these done to keep the fans happy as I feel they have been pie in the sky sort of signings.  Maybe I'm just turning into a grumpy old man.

Good news regarding Liverpool games live, great news in fact!

Latest on from the Guardian was Rodgers saying we definitely still need to add to the squad before the deadline finishes. Meh, we'll see what comes of it.

Does 30m seem like a lot to anyone else for Willian? Don't know much about him but that's serious cash since we've been furiously clearing the wage bill.

Don't think the Liverpool games are live are they Groff?

Personally I like the Willian rumours. As someone mentioned, we haven't really strengthened at all this summer, just made relatively similar replacements for the players we've lost. Willian would be the first sign of actual progress imo. But given how things tend to go for us at the moment I'll believe it when it's 100% confirmed and not a moment earlier.

Dammit looks like I got a bit excited on that one haha!

And yeah agreed, will get only believe signings once they're wearing red. Strange off season!

Strange off season indeed. I keep thinking how it's unfortunate that we've now got a highly capable tactically proficient manager with limited funds, where a couple of seasons ago we had a not-so-tactically-proficient manager with a dramatically bigger budget it seems. No disrespect to King Kenny of course, the man will always be a legend, but it makes me wonder what position we would be in if Rodgers had those kind of funds available.

Was thinking the same the other day.  Would love to see Liverpool under Rodgers with a decent bit of dosh.
Got Cissokho on loan, with option to buy.  Hopefully he works out.
I see Arsenal missed out on Gustavo......hehehehe
