Savouring the win and early top of table status..

Just a tad concerned at lack of killer instinct to bury Man U at the end of first half. Shades of last two seasons  right there. When the flurry of cards and serious loss of composure threatened to overwhelm them., was perhaps the time to strike and avoid the usual 2nd half stress. If Suarez had been there..?

Good win that.

Time for ManU to be knocked off their perch I say

Nosebleed ....top of the table! Looking like we hold on to Suarez, defence looking solid with reinforcements on the way...scary times!

Massive win. I love winning. I would take a 1-0 win every day of the week. Thought our defence and midfield were fantastic. I love Reina, but Mignolet has had a fantastic start to his Liverpool career.

Still would love one more really big signing - say a Muniain or an Arda Turan. But shouldn't be complaining. Assuming we get Ilori, Sakho and Moses (and keep Suarez), it has been a good window for us. Love to see Skrtel put in that kind of performance. Kolo/ Sakho going to have to work hard to get in the team.

Been a boss day.

Wins are like wimmin- pretty's better but ugly still gets the job done.

A few years ago , Stevie was out injured for a while. He'd been stellar  and there was a lot of angst about how we'd go without him. A sit turned out , not too badly! The team  , note I say team , played better without him ( IMO). They had to.

Whilst I think Suarez is an amazing player , I wonder if the start we're seeing may reflect the fact that Rodgers has had to plan without having him. Doesn't hurt that Coutinho is just brilliant and Lucas was awesome , of course. But the team play may just be better without him , at the moment.

Still , we won. Suck on that ,Moyes!!!

2 points clear and only 35 games to go! Seriously though, great win this morning. Awesome to see some steel in the team, particularly at the back. Stoked for Skrtel especially. He's had a tough run and played with a big heart!

Would love to see Liverpool win the league. It would be an astronomical upset, but they've started well.

Great win by them last night.. Sturrige is on fire, wonder if Saurez comes straight back after his suspension

Suarez walks back into this side... But maybe not as the central striker. I assume he'd take Aspas' place in the side.

Along those lines Jazzman, having a fit and in form Lucas makes a world of difference for our side. He's so important. In saying that, Gerrard continues to be fantastic (although he tired badly yesterday). We are a better side with Suarez than without, I think. But I hope Luis realises he doesn't have to do it all now, and can involve Sturridge and Coutinho. It's not a bad side we're building here.

Henderson improves every week. Looking more and more the part. Love it. Also love that Hodgson didn't get let into the director's box at Anfield, the owl-faced Twit.

Ilori, Sakho and Moses all at Anfield during the United game, expect they'll be confirmed over night.

Pretty happy with last night's transfer activity, and the window generally - all things considered. If you'd have offered me the players we've got, along with holding on to Suarez, Agger and Skrtel, I'd have taken that. If you'd have reminded me that last year we loaned Carroll only to embarrasingly fail to replace him, I'd have taken that in a heart beat. If you'd even dared to mention the transfer windows before that, well you could have kicked me in the nads and I still would have taken the deal. All in all I'm feeling rather positive about where we're at compared to where we've been recently.

On that note here's an excellent piece (imo) on Sunday's fixture. https://espnfc.com/blog/_/name/liverpool/id/1538?5901&cc=3436

Also, tried and failed to convey my excitement about deadline day to a colleague this morning. Just couldn't express how exciting it was. Finally got through to her when I stopped calling it deadline day and started calling it 'football Christmas'. Ha.

Some really good work this football christmas! got rid of a lot of underperforming players and have kept some of our stars when there was interst in Agger and Skrtel...well played Liverpool over Suarez as well...hold him hostage for one more year!

Looking forward to see how the defence shapes up, we have a lot of competition there now. I wonder if Wisdom will head out on loan next week.

Football christmas love it!  Yeah very good summer.  Suarez will be like having a new signing when he comes back.   I thought Skirtl might leave with two CB's coming in but good to see he stayed.  He was immense against man u.

Sakho sounds like a superb leader, captained psg at 17 years of age!  I'd always buy him in football manager games.  A few psg fans gutted to see him go as he looked to be shaping up as a one club man but with the recent money coming into psg was forced down the pecking order.

And Dossena signing for sunderland.....good luck with that one.  Hope Borini gets some decent game time and finds the back of the net.  I'm really thinking he was a poor buy but I still hold onto some hope that he will come good since he is still young.

I have a soft spot for Dosenna, because he reminds me of the Real drubbing. I'm pretty happy with the transfer window activity, although it seems like we have way too many central defenders now

That ESPN piece was good. I like Kristian Walsh, he's sound. I'm definitely caught up in that positivity buzz, which is a pleasant surprise for me with Liverpool in the last few years (I'm a moaning bastard). Long may that continue!

Think on the whole we had a good window. Would've liked one more top quality signing for our attacking midfield, but with Moses on loan, hopefully we will try again next year. I like the sound of Sakho. Not watched a lot of him myself, but heard lots of good things.

Dossena reminds me of that week where we beat Real 4-0 and United 1-4... Unreal week, that!

Dossena scored vs man u yeah? Only thing he really did whilst here. Good luck to him.

Have to give a bit of a shout of to Jordan Henderson and Lucas. Two guys who have copped a lot of criticism but are quickly becoming important members of our team. Well done lads!

80 % chance of making the top 4.  50/50 to win the Premiership .

I'd argue Lucas , with some good work from Gerrard were the reasons RVP was ineffective

their shielding of A&S forces RVP to recieve / head too quite wide positions.

8% chance of winning
still as likely to be 6th as 4th
by all means finish ahead of Spurs and MUFC though.

My top 4 are:
Liverpool
Chelsea
Man. City
Arsenal
Looks like we finish ahead of Man United and Spurs !!

I'm loving the early season optimism, makes a welcome change, but we're still gonna have to fight to be in the top 4 at the end of the season and there's no way MUFC won't be in there.

you never know

I feel like Chelsea are sure favourites thanks to Mourinho, but the rest, could be anyone anywhere

With Spurs looking confident, Arsenal strengthened, Liverpool starting well, I'd boost those three up a bit rather than separate them from the 'new big three'. Reckon it could be a great ding-dong battle with 6 teams in the mix - how awesome would that be for the league.

I think ManU and ManC could both have disappointing seasons. ManC strengthened but they don't look like they're playing well, and I'm not convinced by their new signings. They may take a year to gel, I feel they'll hit peak next season. ManU are the current 'crisis club' in the media but that's not the concern - that baton has to be with someone and it moves on quickly in this league. The bottom line is I don't rate their squad, haven't done so for several years now - the key to success was fergie and now he's gone. They've got a decent defence/keeper, and good strikers, but an invisible midfield and sh*t wingers.

Definitely not brave enough to predict a win but if you compare this start with last years, we are already miles ahead. I think that our 2013 form from last season as players got used to BR's style is probably a good indication of where we are....so 4th could be a good aim. Plus I would expect Spurs and Man C to gel together and start to win games.

Man the international window comes at the wrong time! Can't wait to watch the lads

It's more about the finish than the start...

But yeah, great to see you doing well - hope you keep it up too, esp at the expense of the Mancs, Spuds, and Chelski of course ;-)

Thanks Fitzy for that link to the piece from Kristian Walsh on ESPN above.

He also did a comparison piece after the transfer close re each EPL clubs signings activity that was excellent too.

I quite liked this piece from This Is Anfield site  from Marco Lopes too...

Yeah I agree they definitely starved the man u forwards of possesion but when the ball was played forward Agger and Skrtel were so quick in shutting RVP down.
Also I really like the way Liverpool are set up defensively. The way the players press and put pressure on the players in pocession it's great to watch.
