Cech would be my dream signing. Still one of the top keepers in the world and should still be playing at a big club. But Mourinho wouldn't sell to Wenger and United are likely going to be in the market for a keeper this summer so I wouldn't get any hopes up on that front.

Milner would be on a free so would be wages demands only to navigate. United may need a keeper but with a decent backup in Valdez, I can't see them going for an older keeper like Cech.

On the contrary I would expect United to be all over him if he's allowed to leave, assuming De Gea is off. He's still around the peak age for a top level keeper. He could give them 5 or 6 great years like Van Der Sar did (who was 3 years older when they signed him).

Didn't realise Milner was free. Still think his wage demands would be too high for the place he would have in the squad.

Would AFC fans be happy with a Walcott + cash swap for Sterling? Maybe Walcott + $10m?

No, don't want to lose Walcott. Can't see Wenger being interested in Sterling really, he doesn't usually tend to be that keen on players who get into a lot of trouble and cause headlines off the pitch.

So he never really wanted Suarez?

Walcott + cash would be great. Sterlings got time on his side, where as Walcott's hitting his prime with an ACL rebuild under his belt and Michael Owen like dependency on his pace to be able to score. Yes Sterling's had off field guff, but he's no Balotelli/Suarez. He's more Wilshere level, which is managable.

I started typing about Suarez then couldn't be bothered, but I guess the trouble he causes tends to be on the pitch which maybe Wenger thought he could deal with or even change, though I'm delighted he didn't end up tainting my club. Suarez may be a nutcase on the pitch but you don't tend to hear stories about him assaulting his wife or inhaling laughing gas etc and that's more what I was getting at.

I'm hearing if Liverpool want Charlie Austin it is going to cost them between 15 & 20 Million. which is a bargain compared to Andy Carroll.

Austin & Kane both have a lot to prove next season, that this wasn't a fluke.

I'd take Austin happily.

So interesting LFC news to help with the bump.

Palace have made a 31.5m bid for Benteke meaning if they sell, LFC bascially paid 500k to get Villa relegated.

Edit: Cheers for the heads up Kwlap - missed the name initially.

If the Pogba to United rumours are true, the prices are out of this world!

  • £103m for the transfer itself.
  • £11.4m per year in wages.

...and for a bloke who walked on from OT on a free.

Worst transfer related error ever?

I know LFC (Houllier) turned down Ronaldo, some Scottish manager ignored his sons advice to sign Lionel Messi when he was just a bright spark on Football Manager and a Hearts mate just told me that "...John Robertson Hearts all-time leading scorer and Hammer of the Hibs was knocked back by Hibs in the late 70's".

Wenger's pretty muched almost signed everyone; here is his almost signed 11:

Although I imagine when you're around that long, have a good youth network, you'd probably come across most of the up & coming super stars often.

Oh, and Pogba almost came to Arsenal instead of Juventus.

However given the timing we probably would have sold him off within a couple of seasons while we were under our 'new stadium financial restraint'

103m pounds for Pogba could be a massive error in itself, even without the fact that heleft Man U for free. He's not the finished product yet, and the world's full of players who were hyped heaps in their early 20s but failed to kick on. I personally think that he's a bit of a flat track bully and has a tendency to fade in and out of games. Even at the Euros I think Renato Sanches has looked like he's a better CM, and he's 5 years younger (although conspiracy theorists are saying Sanches is actually 23 too) and he cost half that much.

Everton want 50 million for Stones. He's bang average.

Meanwhile City are looking at Bonucci for 50mil+, Palace and West Ham are willing to throw 35mil+ at players, and Watford have rejected a combined 70mil for Ighalo and Deeney.

Money in football is beyond ridiculous now.

Three for me, and two for them.

Those Sanches rumours are bollox, he has been at Benfica since he was 8/9. There are videos of him around that age and he looks as young as his peers, you would notice the difference between a 15/16 yr compared to a 10yr old. And yes, he has initially cost half as much, but the total transfer fee could go up another 45million euro if certain targets are achieved.

I reckon the biggest transfer screw-up has to be when Chelski signed a certain Liverpool striker for 50 million and he flopped - Tores and closesly followed by the other flop - Carroll - Going from Newcastle to Liverpool for 35 million.

Oh yeah, the Sanches rumors are total BS, just proof of how good he is that people are saying it.

I thought he cost €35m straight up plus another €45m in potential additional fees. So that's up to €80m. Pogba's proposed £103m equals about €120m so yeah half as much was hyperbole. Two-thirds as much is more like it.

Expressed another way, Pogba is being valued at 200 Riyad Mahrezes

I just wonder if Utd have worked out that if they spend £103m they will get £20m back from Juve as training compensation - I honestly have no idea how it works exactly.

Saw a 'letter to the editor' today asking if Ronaldo or Bale were any better than Sterling at the same age. Interesting point...

Bale was seen as a flop when he initially moved to Spurs and Ronaldo was just a flash haircut with step overs when he first joined United.

Raheem is 21 years old, has 157 top flight games under his belt - decent experience for someone that age. I hate the way he left us (partially his doing, partially Rodgers) but he's not peaked yet IF he works under the right coach.
